Quote from: Coastwalker on April 18, 2026, 02:30:46 PMThree games to go and they heading for double relegation, winning all three might not be good enough.

Not that long ago they won the Premier League.

Want to know why?

Ranieri didn't want to get out of the Hollywood chair and started spending too much time in Italy the following season after winning PL with Leicester. He lost the dressing room and didn't replace some of the ageing players.
The chairman died in a mysterious helicopter crash 2 years later after PL triumph and his son, who took over, isn't interested in football and rarely attends matches.
The club fell out with Brendan Rodgers who won them the FA Cup.
Club's legendary goalkeeper Kaspar Schmeichel was allowed to leave and replaced by a keeper from the reserves
Club icon Jamie Vardy was allowed to leave and a like for like replacement was never made
Lack of proper scouting, too much reliance on Academy kids and lack of investment in experienced players
Recruitment of managers after Maresca just laughable with appointments such as Van Nistelrooy, Cooper, Fuentes and now Rowett.
Leicester have won only 1 match in last 17.

Quote from: Stoneleigh Loyalist on April 18, 2026, 02:52:21 PMIt's not the first time that this has happened to a league winning team.

Who else has won the Premier and then had double relegation to league1.?

Blackburn Rovers won it once and then were relegated twice

Over 4 seasons, not double two years running if Leicester go,which seems likely.

Quote from: KentFulham on April 18, 2026, 05:14:38 PMWho remembers Man City doing a double drop only to play us opening game in League 1 as we came up from League 2. 3-0 Fulham with Dirk bagging a brace, and the Oasis brothers were in the Hamny End when we had that fenced off bit at the back with a bit of a hut, they were both giving it large early on

I was at that game, think it might of been an evening kick off

Was a Friday night fixture. Shirt sleeves weather and a good thrashing of City. A number of their fans were really arrogant 'we're too big for this league' types so it was nice to beat them.

As I recall it, the back of the Hammersmith End had been fenced off a few years for safety. Rather than bring it back into use for standing, they installed temporary boxes plus a bar. I'm sure the Gallagher brothers were in a box and had enjoyed some pre match hospitality 🍻🍷🥃

Quote from: Marcus on April 19, 2026, 11:35:56 AMWolves plunged, can't remember if they managed a double during that period. Have never forgiven Leicester for '83, Ivor's erroneously disallowed goal, Battle of the Baseball Ground, etc, so quite enjoying it.

The OP was asking a question relating to the Premier League, not the old Division 1.
The PL was formed and established in 1992.

To be pedantic Coastwalker didn't ask a question at all, just made a statement. Not sure his statement specifically excluded the old Division 1 either? Anyhow it's quite interesting to remember the clubs which slid so rapidly to the third division (whatever they want to call it these days).

The title is asking the question 'What's gone wrong?'; it's merely missing a question mark. For it to be a statement, the O.P. would need to state (i.e. tell us) was has gone wrong: the O.P. doesn't do this.

Yeah, in those portacabins that somehow passed for hospitality!
Think he calmed down a bit when the third went in.

Not sure I agree. The "what's gone wrong" is in brackets. The next sentence sort of offers comment on it. I took it as a slightly airy comment. Either way I did rather enjoy thinking back to some of the great slides from top flight to ignominy. Leeds also occurred to me and I remember taking some relish in that one.

I think it was this game that after the Gallaghers initial arrogance, Keith Allen was sitting nearby and was ripping it out of them when the game went our way.

Cambridge Away

How much was this to do with the helicopter crash thing? Wasn't that guy effectively like Leicesters Abramovic. For that reason i feel sorry. Same as Cardiff when Sala died in the plane crash. Even though they were our arch rivals for a while. Cardiff may have stayed up with him

Yes, and after the first relegation everyone was saying, we'll be straight back, we're too talented with players like Conway and Barret.

TC's Sporran

relegated tonight if they lose. last 6 games lost 3 drawn 3 havent won in 17 games.  bound to win.

Didn't the Leicester owners finances suffer badly during Covid because they were heavily into the travel & air industry ?

I remember the Gallagher's above us throwing the V signs. 😂

When Leicester won the Premier League if you had said to Bromley supporters that in ten years time you will be playing them in league.... ::tongue::  ::smile::

The helicopter crash wasn't mysterious, it was investigated and found to be due to a mechanical failure.

I've got a Bromley FC season ticket these days, I can't believe I'll be in the away end at the King Power stadium  next season

I think any side even in the championship that has Vestergard as your starting centre back is going to struggle....I remember when posters wanted him at Fulham......
