Although he came out yesterday and said there was no contact, a few creditable outlets are now reporting that he will now replace José Mourinho and become the new Benfica coach.
Obviously, Mendes would've been doing all the talking, so Marco wouldn't have had any direct contact yet, be it now seems to be a forgone conclusion, and he will leave Fulham at the end of the season.
Whilst no coach is bigger than the club, Marco Silva has clearly been looking at options to leave for quite domestic tome now, and my worry is that the owners have let this drag on for far to long.
If true, big summer coming up, an ageing squad, and what now looks like to be coach-less.

That's fine. All good things come to an end and tbh I think this has been coming to an end for 6 months or so.
I hope our owners have a plan because this summer it is absolutely crucial we act quickly on a manager and transfers otherwise we will be in real trouble.
My vote Fabregas, or confirm pochettino for after the World Cup and work with him now on transfers for when he starts
Would love Poch, I´ve got to say. Are we too small a club for him to consider, I wonder? Hopefully the Khans are on the case ::cool::
Let's hope the club have already been contacting other managers since december and haven't put all their hopes into marco resigning
Filipe Luis or Fabregas please
Apparently, according to Google, our fourth longest serving manager.
A shame if he is leaving. Hope we figure out a replacement asap
It really took all of this time for Marco to make a decision. I feel like he made up his mind months ago and just been stringing the club along.
I honestly don't think it matters when we find out he's going, other than the opportunity to say thanks at the Newcastle game.
Also, and more importantly, the club have a Manager lined up and ready to go from day one.in the close season.
I suppose one potential positive is that there are a lot of good managers available this summer... if he does go, whilst I'll be disappointed, I'd hope the club have acted quickly and sorted a suitable replacement.
Quote from: demeant0r on May 16, 2026, 11:11:44 PMIt really took all of this time for Marco to make a decision. I feel like he made up his mind months ago and just been stringing the club along.
Feel like this is the truth. If reports are right that he's taking a significant pay cut than it seems like he was just waiting for the first half decent opportunity to come along.
Feels like we were just his safety net.
If we land on our feet after all of this, I guess all's well that ends well. But given how slow the club moves sometimes, I wish we'd have more time to get a replacement.
Pre Southhampton = stay
Post Southhampton = go , with my best wishes.
I think it's pretty clear MS wants to be elsewhere. The reasons are almost irrelevant. Almost any other business would not allow this situation to get to this stage.
"Nothing will kill a great employee faster than watching you tolerate a bad one" - Perry Belcher.
MS is far from bad. I appreciate what he has achieved with FFC. I think the longer he stays the closer we are heading to a bad outcome.
https://x.com/NicoSchira/status/2055800209653789069
If true I wish him well
I think we have hit the ceiling for Marco. He got us out of a bad situation into a good one and i think he is a great manager. The problem is he cant seem to close out seasons (its really a big problem for him a feel), and he cant recruit a balanced squad with the right personalities to take the next step.
I 100% think he is gone and I am excited for what another manager can do with a talented squad. We have the potential to be very exciting, with kevin/bobb/ESR/King, and currently we can hardly get a shot on target.
Going to Benfica now a mistake in my view.
When he came to us, Marco took over a struggling club and achieved success. Benfica have had a great season, unbeaten, and if under Marco they lose a couple early on ... Better to go to a club not doing so well, Chelsea, for example, though it seems from the news as though that vacancy has been filled.
If he does go, reportedly for a lot less money, then like the Middlesborough manager moving to the doomed Wolvs in mid-season, it looks like sentiment over logic - not that sentiment is to be under-valued. Without it, we long-time Fulham fans would have switched teams in the pre Al Fayed years when Conference football seemed a real possibility!
I'm sure a reported lot less money would still be a very great deal for most of us and quite sufficient to live comfortably on. To me it's a bit of a no-brainer: a bigger, more prestigious club in a better place, which also happens to be his homeland.
He's done 5 years with us and the right change wouldn't do us any harm either, disruptive though it is.
Looking more inevitable you'd imagine and we are likely to have confirmation in next day or so. Issue will now be most suitable replacement? If there is the slightest possibility of enticing Iraola or Pochettino then go full out for either.

I've broadly been Silva in but he clearly wants a "better" job. If he's not appointed boss of Benfica then he'll jump ship in the off-season if a better post comes up and that would be enormously destabilising. Best part ways and get a new manager in asap. I assume we've done some planning on that front, although that may be naive.

because it's a BS, Silva will sign a new Fulham deal soon imo.
After the last 10 performances and the lack of passion from most players, I want a new manager. His passion and fire is what was so attractive. That carries through to the players. Big lot of nothing going on right now.
Before the Cottage door swings shut behind him shove out Muniz and ESR. Harry will already have gone.

Next season we will struggle to survive I imagine regardless of the Manager. Europe would have been a major handicap with the extra games.
Hurry up Benfica and offer Silva a contract. Although after today's performance god knows why they would want him

This is just petty semantics and i am not going to derail and engage in a discussion about something I never intended to express. Have a good evening.
Employing your trusted agent to discuss all the preliminary details of a new job offer means you can say "I've not spoken to anyone or decided on a new challenge".
Of course he knows what offers are on the table but he doesn't have to speak to anyone personally at this stage.
There are many owners who would sack their manager when the team fails to take advantage and achieve something time and again when in good positions as this team has.
It wont happen at Fulham but I would say good bye to him whether he wants to stay or not, the team needs a new leader.

He has given a very similar quote to what Parker did in his final game as manager.
After the game, Parker admitted: "It's a big summer for us. There are big decisions to be made and we need to make sure we make the right ones."
Silva: "In my opinion, it's probably one of the most important summers in this football club. The future is there, but we have to do it right, so that things that have happened this season don't happen again."
For me it just means they can't continue in this job the way the club is currently run, but I think he knows & Parker knew nothing is/was going to change. Just Indirectly blaming the ownership for the failures

Or maybe SK has had enough and will tell him to move on.
At what point do we say to Marco a few things we don't like as a club in the way he has acted over the past few months and the way the team has trained.
Why Marco thinks he has all the cards pisses me off. The team has been awful for a few months, I think he'd be lucky to stay in the job for us
If we played all season the way we have these past few weeks, we would be in the same position as Wolves or West Ham... Marco has taken Fulham as far as he can... we need to move on...

Marco Silva and Harry Wilson should both have been moved on last summer after turning down the contract offers.

I agree entirely. My thoughts on this issue is not whether a person is leaving but how they leave. It seems to me he has strung us along for the past few months, adversely affecting performances, costing us progress in the Cup and possibly a place in Europe. In such circumstances I have lost all respect for him so as far as I'm concerned he can do one and I will not be cheering him on Sunday.

I'm not really sure you can force a player or manager to go if he's still in his contract (without paying compensation). He's within his rights to stay till it ends.

Exactly, it was clear he wanted to go so he should have said so 6 months ago and then we would have had closure and time to prepare, and the players may have had their minds more focused.
Definately lost all respect for MS given it looks like he has strung everyone along while impacting the club. I just hope the board appoint someone swiftly and given them the butget and freedom to improve the club. Lets not wait till the week the transfer window closes to appoint and then scramble for players!
He has strung us along and not for the first time, really not sure if I want to stay and applaud that this weekend.
If this story is true I actually feel relieved, I couldn't see anything but a struggle next season if he stayed. No guarantees but I think these players are better than what we have seen over the last few months.
I too am a little relieved. The football for most of this season and parts of last season was truly vomit inducing, which conincidentally was when Boa Morte left. I'm really hoping we get BM back in some form in either the coaching team or managerial team however he's more likely to rejoin Marco at Benfica.

Agreed. Likelihood is he does leave, but there were a lot of similar level reporters claiming he was all agreed to go to Saudi which never materialised.

Arrogance is the perfect word to describe Marco Silva's attitude over the past 2 seasons. As mentioned previously, our season has ended around March for 2 years now and apart from taking any responsibility himself, he blames the club for any shortfalls. He got players he wanted but can't do his job effectively enough to manage them. Onwards and upwards hopefully with a new leader.

People have got to start living in the real world - if you have a contract then it is the individual's right to run it down as they please. We have come a long way since sending young boys up chimneys and I am astonished how some people view employment rights.
It's the same when managers are sacked and get a huge payoff - people are up in arms yet would rightly demand the same if in that position.
He has been , and still is a great manager for us . I think it is time for a change as the football has become stale but we must never forget what he has done for the club and that he is within his rights to choose his career path going forward.

The whole will he won't he scenario could have been handled so much better and that's why many fans are so disgruntled. It didn't have to end this way, if indeed Marco moves on.
I do not mind Wilson running down his contract at all, he has every right to do so.
Marco on the other, he has taken on the responsibility of a leader, the public face of the club, as a natural consequence of him being the one club representant that talks to the press the most, sets our style of play, being outspoken about wanting his players in etc. Transparency and communication is a massive part of his job, whether he likes it or not. Hence yes, I will be angry for the way that he has handled his contract situation and communicated it if he leaves, no matter his accolades and whatever has been going on behind the scenes.

I would guess with what Marco has achieved with Fulham he gets to make the important decisions where recruitment is concerned. Think this manager given players to coach term is a tad off the mark but it makes for a story. That's not to say that at times its a case of beggars can't be choosers especially when we tend to do our late night shopping trips every transfer deadline day and you end up with a player/s who you are not entirely convinced about but it's take it or leave it?
If it's a case of wanting transfers done early well all managers would want that but in this day and age with players and agents holding the power teams of our size have to wait in line. I Can't believe in todays football our scouting setup come management team are not aware of any professional footballer playing in any obscure league in the world. If there not then there not doing their job properly.
Quote from: C Block on May 21, 2026, 08:04:56 AMWhen the dust has settled on this Marco Silva drama, I say this to the Club,
"Please, please, please never ever allow a Manager or indeed a player go into the final year of their contract "
Marco Silva and Harry Wilson should both have been moved on last summer after turning down the contract offers.
Can you please explain to me how you legally contrive to "not allow a manager or player to go into the final year of their contract"? As someone with a bit of an understanding of these things I would be interested in your explanation.

If the Club are organised and plan properly we should have been sounding out manager's six months ago!
I'm not jumping on the bandwagon of giving Silva and Wilson grief because they ran their contracts down, it's a natural time to part ways with both, and I will clap them both at the end of the match for their overall service.
Some of the reactions to this situation is all a bit handbags imo.
My two pennies.
I generally agree with you. Just one caveat, he should not have recently denied talking to them. Better to have said nothing than lied.
If he goes then so be it. I do not get the clamouring for Pochetino personally. If Iraola is considering palace why wouldn't he consider us as well?
Other names maybe Fabregas, Frank, McKenna, Fonseca, Rodgers,
I think Marco's indecision is led by how the directors of the club and transfer business has been run.. I think if he felt everything was seamless (e.g. signing Pepi in Jan as well as Bobb, getting in a CM and not having a thing squad), we'd possibly be in Europe now and progress would've been made and he'd feel it.
All this should've been sorted better and earlier from both sides look at Boscombe theyve been seamless in their handling of a new manager replacing the Old manager.
If true then please for the love of god no booing this weekend.
Silva did a great job for us, just what we needed at the time. But let's take the positives: a chance to hire someone exciting and maybe hit another gear?
That's the only bit that worries me... we could accidentally hire another Jol.

Agreed. Booing would in my view be completely embarrassing in light of what he has done for us. It seems people would boo purely on the basis that he has been 'stringing us along', something for which there is zero evidence. Nobody knows what has been discussed behind closed doors

Now that becomes history and all I'm really concerned about is getting in the right man urgently so he can have a sufficient time to fully impact our transfer strategy this summer.

I don't think the Khan's could ever have given Marco enough, he would always want more. They have already spent £100's of millions on Marco sanctioned signings that are unlikely to provide any return value. Purely from a business point of view I would not give him any more money.
Feels like at the end he wanted to buy his way to silverware. I don't think he's gotten the best out of the £100 million we've already spent for him. He has a reputation for rejuvenating player careers but has that really been the case since Boa Morte and Stuart Grey left?
I think there were multiple reasons for us staying up and playing so well in recent years and I think Marco was only a portion of that equation.
Football is not a normal business so running your contract down and being vague (at best) about your intentions will cause a reaction among many supporters.
Looking at recent past performances and where we are today I believe his leaving could be a blessing as he's run out of ideas and motivation.
Even a blind man can see the players are not performing to the level they are capable of often enough and the buck stops with Silva.
I wont boo on Sunday but I wont clap him either.

No, I'm saying the contract negotiations have been going on for months and Silva has just been hanging on for what seems to be commitments that the Khans may not be willing to honour. If he signs what has been offered already, fine, if he wants gaurantees then the club would need a get out clause if he doesn't produce. Likewise Silva would want gaurantees of financial redress if things don't work out.
Maybe this is the problem, and the Trust is no longer there

Sorry but I don't think you understand the difference between salaried employment and employment under a fixed term contract. As I'm sure you are aware Marco is in the latter situation. Since the contract is fixed for both parties there is absolutely no requirement to give notice (unless they wish to foreshorten their contract in which case they would be in breach anyway). The employee leaves when the contract ends, simples.

Whilst contractually that is correct, I can't think of another case in football where a manager has run down his contract in the way that Marco has without announcing it at least one game before the end of the season that they would be leaving. (Happy to be corrected on this).

11 million for a 14th place finish seems aggressive.
Thinking about next season and beyond, I now think the risk that's always there when a new manager is appointed is the lesser worry than reappointing Silva.
It's generally accepted that Silva's main (or only) concern about re-signing is due to the willingness of the owner to match his ambition in rebuilding the team.
If that's the case how are we able to trust Silva to get the best out of the players old and new?
He clearly hasn't inspired the current squad to play with the energy & passion demonstrated in the past.
We know they are capable of better but have been lackluster most of the season so why would we expect Silva to inspire a new squad?
It makes you wonder if the Khan's have even be watching our games of late. We have been utter dross in the last third of the season. Marco has been a good manager for us but we have been very poor in a number of games this season. A change will do both parties some good.

Ive read this today, however........
It is also reported that Nothing can be signed with Benfica until Jose goes. he can't sign anything with Real until the 8th or 12th of June (once the Madrid presidential elections are finished). If Perez wins the he signs, Benfica get some cash and they will appoint a new manager, if Perez loses then there is a big doubt that Jose gets the job and then he would stay at Benfica as he hasnt rejected their offer
I feel that the most glaringly prominent emotion with Marco is "frustration".
Frustrated with referees, frustrated with the board, frustrated with transfers, frustrated when the team does not play to his exact instructions, frustrated at silly questions in pre-match press conferences.
And i personally think that relates to his lack of motivational skills; firstly he is frustrated. And that motivates no one. Hence the fall off end of season when players fail to motivate themselves by being all about promotion to the PL for instance.
Perhaps he has a side to him that we have never ever seen but i doubt it.
Combine this with dragging us along with the contract situation and I really really really want a new manager.
It's never been about the money for MS. He's just been punching the clock for 2-3 months already! Just let him go and bring in the Brazilian for 1/4 the cost.

I hope the club see sense and just take the contract off the table, thank Marco for his services and move on. He is good but we can do better. Other clubs of similar and less stature than us found Iraola, Glasner, Hurzeler etc The sort of money quoted for this contract is ludicrous and Marco should have signed it by now if he was committed. He has had money to spend and many signings with big fees have been poor value so far. Our play has been slow and tactics stale for months. I want a new start with fresh ideas.

If any of this is true ( and it may not be ) then it's no good people blaming Marco - the owners and their lack of football savvy has to be in question . My belief is that they are desperate to keep him because he will deliver survival and ,as far as the bottom line is concerned , that is all that matters. Ambition means nothing more than survival.

As much as I love Marco, everything comes to an end and change usually takes a club forward. This will he wont he stay saga thats been going on for the past couple of seasons cant carry on.
Even if he were to extend his contract, the level he has taken us to has also raised the stakes. Either he takes us further, thus just generating more interest in him from bigger clubs, or we decline and everyone will be disappointed and he gets sacked

Irrespective of what you think. His attitude towards the club is wrong and as I said he should have given the club a decision well in advance of now on what his intentions were.
It is of course entirely possible that he has been undecided all this time, which means that he couldn't give a decision. The club could have enforced an arbitrary deadline, but they haven't.
Nothing necessarily wrong on anyone's part, and frankly I can't really understand the vileness of some posts on here. Do people act like this in real life, or is it purely a hiding-behind-a-keyboard thing?

Well it's not as if any other club has offered a new deal to an existing manager and then sacked them if things don't go well. If they want continuity then re signing Silva makes sense. No one has a crystal ball to predict what will happen over the next few years. There are posters on here who think retaining Silva will be a good thing for the club's stability. Either way it will end sooner or later and usually in tears.

I don't understand your attitude. Could you please share with us your personal thoughts on your next job move, or perhaps your plans to move home, or maybe the state of your bank balance or any other private matter? Because clearly we are all entitled to know.
I really couldn't give a damn if you don't understand my attitude towards MS or if you dont understand others.
MS could easily provide his notice of intent like the other managers at CP and Bmth.
Majority of work when someone is leaving they give their notice, hardly an unfair thing to expect our manager to do.
I think you misunderstand the concept of a fixed term contract, albeit that it could be extended or renewed.
Irrespective of what you think. His attitude towards the club is wrong and as I said he should have given the club a decision well in advance of now on what his intentions were.
Why should he? There is absolutely no contractual / legal requirement that says he should do that. You alluded to giving notice but as I and others have pointed out you were wrong about that. All fixed term contracts are just that, fixed in their term.
Now if you were to say that it would have been good for the club if he had made his intentions clear sooner then I'd be in full agreement. If you said it would then have been nice if the club could have shared that information with us fans I would also be in agreement with you.
For whatever reasons this has gone to the wire without any public resolution. What we have absolutely no idea about is why. Has Marco just been waiting to see what offers come in? Has he made specific requests in advance of any new contract that the club have been reluctant to agree? Have the club been slow in negotiating the terms of any revisions to a new contract? Set aside press speculation and frankly neither you or I or anyone else knows a scooby do.
You're entitled to you view and to quote, "I really couldn't give a damn" why you reached your conclusion. Seemingly based on not understanding basic contract law. But I have tried to explain why I won't jump on the bandwagon of slagging off Marco.
A lot of us don't know what is happening behind the scenes with this club, the hierarchy at this club has a history of of being worse than the KGB when it comes to negotiations both in transfers and disclosure of even mundane club affairs. I suspect they have everyone from the team lady to Marco on Non disclosure contracts with severe penalties for leaks.
All I know is when we got a result making Europe impossible, Tony was posting about Spandex men.

If Shahid sanctioned that and then sacked him, he would have to sell up. It would be an appalling commercial decision.
Well it's not as if any other club has offered a new deal to an existing manager and then sacked them if things don't go well. If they want continuity then re signing Silva makes sense. We're sailing close to the wind on our finances as it is, committing to a long expensive deal that we're freely admitting could go tits up is negligent.

I don't disagree if true - it just points to bad management , panic, and a belief that money solves everything.
The idea that we are " a well run club " gets called into question if it is true and it is certainly not Marco's fault if the owners just keep upping their financial offer

I quite understand contract law chap. The fact is as I stated the other managers, no doubt subject to the same fixed contracts had the decency to confirm their status way in advance of end of their contract. Unlike our manager who has for whatever reason decided to leave it until the very last minute. Which, whilst you may not agree, I and many other find disrespectful to our club.

If silva stays things definitely Need to change.

He sounds like a rather crafty individual.
The club should place him on gardening leave on Monday for the remainder of his contract. Enough is enough - we can't waste 3 weeks waiting for the Mourinho/Benfica saga to play out.

To be honest it's a joke that we're now essentially letting ourselves be at the mercy of Real Madrid and will fall in line depending on what they end up doing. If we had a backbone we would have issued an ultimatum to Silva months ago, if he wanted to dither about we'd say thank you but you can go at the end of your contract, and then we'd line up a new manager. Now we're just sitting around waiting for Real to decide what they want to do about Mourinho, then waiting to see if Benfica get Silva. Just isn't proactive and we're the end of a chain and risking being collateral damage.
I do wonder how much of this "we will go to any length and we will wait until the end of days days for you to make your decision" is influenced by our American overlords thinking they will have to invest a lot more time, probably be more physically present for a while, and be much more hands-on again if we get a new manager in. Quite possibly. At the end of the day if the ticket sales and PL TV revenue keep rolling in why would they bother thinking too hard about it? Of course the reality is there's only so much you can continue with the status quo before you find yourself relegated. It's the nature of the game.

Yeah, this is not all on the Khans - as Marco bears some responsibility but they always seem to operate in absolute chaos.
Transfers left late, contract extension sagas (TC, Tete, Willian, now Marco), even more minor details like kit launch and pre season plans seem to be disorganised and left til the last minute. Tired of this dynamic, it's time and time again.

I completely agree with your post as well, was just adding to it. Your explanation is a good summation of their methodologies. They know Silva keeps them up, and has put up with their unconventional way of working. Likewise with the Willian and Tete extensions, they allowed themselves to get completely played around with because in order to take an option they consider safe.
Contrast to clubs like Brentford and Bournemouth who always plan ahead. Replacement signings made within days, signings made before season has started.

Comes down to ambition at the end of the day and what they really want out of their ownership. OK Bournemouth are also owned by a fairly hands-off American owner, but Brighton, Brentford and Crystal Palace have owners who have an emotional stake in their clubs - they want them to achieve things as well as make money, so it's no surprise to see them properly challenging and winning things.

I don't know the details of Bournemouth's ownership and structure, I know it's American. Either way they're incredibly efficient and capable operationally. They identify players and have deals ready to go. I can't recall any sagas in their signings like we will. It goes from rumour to transfer very quickly, whereas we offer something considerably lower than would be accepted and across weeks incrementally go up - right until the last minute.

Fulham boss Marco Silva has promised he will make make a decision on his future next week.
The 48-year-old Portuguese's contract at Craven Cottage expires at the end of June and the club are keen to keep him, offering a new three-year deal.
Silva, who was appointed in 2021, was linked with the Chelsea job before former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso was appointed.
Benfica have also been mentioned as possible suitors for Silva as they eye a replacement for Real Madrid-bound Jose Mourinho.
Fulham's final Premier League match of the season is against Newcastle on Sunday.
Speaking at his pre-match news conference on Friday, Silva said he did not see the uncertainty surrounding him "as an issue".
"I understand why you call it as an issue, I see it as a situation that we are at the end of a contract, we have been talking to the football club and the football club is talking with us," he said.
"And I'm going to take a decision, as are the football club, next week.
"I just have one offer on the table for me to think about. I understand my agent is speaking with the club, but I have an offer from a long, long time that we are talking about and that is Fulham Football Club."
Silva took charge of Fulham when they were in the Championship five years ago and steered the club to promotion in his first season.
Since then he has established them in the Premier League, guiding the Cottagers to 10th, 13th and 11th placed finishes.
They currently sit 13th with the match at home to Newcastle left, but Fulham have failed to win in their past three games, seriously denting their chances of qualifying for Europe next season.

Erm next week is not three week's away, it starts on Sunday or Monday and for some, even Saturday.

I wish we would take the opportunity to just thank him and wish him well and be ambitious as a club and go out and get an exciting manager that can bring in some new ideas and take the club forward.
Glasner, Iraola, Hurzeler have really elevated CP, Bournemouth and Brighton and taken them to another level, and clearly surpassed us
If Marco stays then OK, maybe he will change some tactics next season with some new players coming in. We have a choice to think about, sticking with the devil you know compared to Twisting and getting someone else in.
I think the Club have to have the balls to say to him "we want a decision by Monday latest". We need to give a new Manager the time to get his players in and get his tactics in to the squad during the summer.
I am concerned that the Parker esk football that has been served up at times this season is here to stay, we'll see.

Many would not be happy -but the owners are desperate for him to stay. So desperate that they are reportedly increasing their offer . They want survival in this league above everything else and they would appear to be wary of the risk of employing someone new .
It is their train set and they want to keep him

Well if it is true ( who genuinely knows? )and the players know then so must the owners. Given that they have to sanction any public announcement it must mean they do not want it announced until they are ready. So that would bonk on the head any idea that he is the one who is " toying" with us

Why? Just thank him and let him go! We've been hopeless for weeks with boring performances and he has lost interest. New manager with enthusiasm, new tactics, bring some quality into the midfield and up front and we will all feel like getting behind the team again.

Wouldn't it just be marvellous if Real say no to Jose, he signs on again at Benfica and SK withdraws Silva's contract. It was on the table for him to sign but he stalled and stalled. Should have just signed it and we could be preparing for next season already. Not that I would be over the moon of Silva stays.
I'm not sure if the reports on how much the Club are prepared to offer Marco to

I can't it's just a feeling. Maybe down to structures in other clubs. Our late transfer business every season . Part time issues . The current malaise over. MArco' s contract . The treatment of fans . Oh and maybe down to the fact I have been the President of an International business as well as a Director of a football club
I feel things aren't quite right. Is that okay for me to have that opinion ?

If Marco leaves it won't be down to how much his contract is worth or how much xyz player costs! It will be how let down he has been with the timescale of player recruitment coming in. How is a manager supposed to prepare for a season if his boss continuously has the cavalry turning up late? If he is not getting this agreement then he is not being shown the respect of getting this team back to being a premiership club.
I would guess the stumbling block is the owners son one way or another and Khan Snr is likely to back the wrong horse! Again!
Bonus?
Wow. When did it get to this?
Why do clubs reward mediocrity.
The end to this season does not deserve a bonus.

Again!
I wholeheartedly disagree with you, with all due respect. If early transfers were so adamant and crucial as you are indicating then Marco would never ever entertain a contract extension in the first place and would have said NOPE months ago.

Agree with Volz.
Additionally, in Marco's post match interview it appeared like he felt he might need a break due to the fact that he felt he had put the club in front of personal issues for the last 5 years. Does that point to a less stressful (in his mind) Benfica job? We shall see.

Let's look at the positives. Firstly Marco. He's established himself as a great manager after a run of short spells at Hull, Watford and Everton. Whose teams punch above their weight. A break from the pressure of the Premiership and the chance to manage Benfica. One of the top three teams in Portugal with an enviable history and support whilst also going back home. Is probably a dream come true.
Now Fulham, a club with an owner whose invested heavily and has got to grips with the ownership of a Premiership Football Club. A squad of good players both young and old. Who on their day can give most in this league a hard time.
If that team can be handed to a manager with fresh ideas, who can squeeze out a bit more of the potential in that squad. Then the futures bright.
This season several teams with bigger cheque books than us have made some awful managerial appointments. Let's hope our Chairman has learnt those lesson from the past and we go onwards and upwards.

Him building a house in Portugal has no relevance to him going back there.
In his 5 years at Fulham, he has regularly travelled to and from Portugal when he gets time off.
Not saying he stays, but could simply be a holiday home or future retirement home.

Spot on. Deadline day transfer of your 4th target preference for £100k less than 1st or 2nd? Only MS can tell you how many times it's happened.

Maybe SK has decided its time for MS to move on. Having spent £100m on ESR, Bobb and Kevin and not seen the team improve I would imagine he's getting concerned about not getting value for money out of Silva.

Argh, Shiver me timbers.
Did he say which week?
Benfica are on hold, I read yesterday as they cannot do anything until Jose goes to Madrid and that wont be before the Real Madrid presidential elections on the 7th of June. As someone is standing against Perez they have to have the election, if this other guy withdraws then they can move earlier. SO all in all the water is still as clear as mud
Quote from: sunburywhite on May 27, 2026, 12:47:36 PMDid he say which week?
Try to get it done on the first day of the transfer window, but most likely it will happen on the last day in the 11th hour.
Felipe Luis in talks with Leverkusen according to the media - Apparently was a target for Fulham with the Silva indecision, may hint we have an answer soon.
At this point, expecting the club to just draw a line in the sand is futile. But we don't need to wait for Real Madrid to make up their mind so Benfica can make up theirs. Just go out and hire a new manager. I love what Marco did for us the past 5 years, but the amount of leverage he holds seems disproportionate to the results of the last 2 seasons.
I understand if he doesn't want to commit to the club again but don't treat us as a safety net. He's made £4 million a year for the last 5 years, he can go a few months unemployed if he really wants to see what better opportunities are out there.
It's odd that Marco gets the flack.... it is the owner that is at fault showing poor management as usual
If Marco will not sign, then he should have been shown the door, nicely, but the door none the less.
We need to know who is in charge next season now.
If he is staying and it is dotting the Is and crossing the Ts, then say so.
marco said a decision would happen this week, it's wednesday already after months of knowing this was coming, how long does it take? It is, as usual, a ridiculous situation to be in because it will affect the players we want to kee, those we want to get and those we are offloading.
The owner need to get a gripo and show some proper leadership.

They're very much both at fault here. Marco for stringing us along with this will he won't he crypticism, and the ownership/management for not getting a grip of the situation and being proactive. Complete joke that it's now been half a week since the end of the season and we STILL don't know if Silva will be here at the start of next season. We cannot afford to be pushed around by the likes of Real and Benfica.
According to Talksport, Marco met with Fulham hierarchy yesterday and they're offering to double his salary to £8M per year, making him the third highest paid Premier League manager after Arteta and De Zerbi!
Not sure how much truth is in that, but that salary seems insane.

At this point we should just bake the full transfer budget into his salary and set Champions League to be his goal and he can buy and negotiate whatever player he wants to reach that from his own salary. We are making ourselves way, way too dependent on him being The One And Only regardless.
Ahh, Chesney Hawkes ::smile::
Well, we are very fortunate to have Shahid as our owner who has given substantial sums in owning and developing our precious Cottage, investing significant and substantial sums in player additions with or without Marcos final say so

Enough now already
If true, the offer to Marco is huge and he should accept or have the good grace to give notice of leaving - who cares where.
He has been very fortunate to be able to rebuild his career with us and has delivered some terrific results along with Premiership stability

Feels like a bit of a disconnect here.. for me Marco isn't necessarily in need or wanting to double his salary, what he wants is the players and the transfer budget and ability to do transfers quickly and at the beginning of the season to have a full squad, with requisite depth and to have them in early in preseason so we're not wasting time settling them and the squad I to a routine

This has to be bs. If not then the owners have taken leave of their senses.
Would rather the 4million was invested in the team not overpaying MS. Hasn't been good enough for me to warrant huge increase in salary.

Absolutely true. I am just tired of this saga, and, it is a well known fact that when people have no information on a subject they start speculating and argue for the validity of their speculations, me included.
This could have all been avoided with a little information from any party.
That said, I have been thinking the same as you. Perhaps they are chill like The Dude in Big Lebowski, everybody being comfortable with the idea that "it happens when it happens", and a professionally run club would indeed have options lined up already.

So I'm not genuinely worried.

Additionally, we won't seriously start signing any players until on or around the 30th August, so there's plenty of time to sort it.

We have had information: All along the information has been that Marco has yet to decide.
What we haven't had yet is an answer. And this is why the information hasn't been enough for many. They want a definitive answer. So the same question has kept being asked and the same information keeps being given.
Marco is entitled to wait until the end of his contract before deciding what to do next. He seems to have conveyed this intention to the Club some time ago. The Club, clearly, has been prepared to wait to find out what that decision will be. I imagine that, for Marco and the Club, it hasn't been a saga at all - merely a wait. I have no doubt the Club has used the intervening period to consider its options should Silva choose a parting of the ways.
With information I meant something like "Marco really misses his family and is considering moving back to Portugal" which could be an outright lie for all I care, but at least that is something that fans could relate to and then understand the reason why he has been dragging this on. Instead we get a "mystery", a "lets se what happens". Few are content with that approach.
Besides that, I see your point

I'm not that fussed about Silva the coach staying really - I'd like him to stay, but I also don't think he's irreplecable (though I don't have huge trust that we'll get the appontment right).
The bigger reason I want Silva to stay is that if he does, it means he has one the idealogical battle with Mackintosh over the clubs' strategy - prioritising football outcomes over financial ones. We're never going to progress* if we don't get better at proactively turning over/refreshing the squad and taking a few more measured risks in recruitment.

well the Khans got the last appointment (Silva) right. The thing is, do you know Silva has been asking for more risks in recruitment? As a manager, he doesnt need the club to sign young or exotic players who might come good over the next few years. He could be gone by then. His inclination is mode likely to sign players like Andersen and Iwobi - established PL players already at their peak.

The one thing that may help? Is that the PL is stronger.. Villa, Palace won both European competitions, and Arsenal are in the CL final.
Losing Klopp and Guardiola takes the shine off a but on a manager level, but perhaps makes it more competitive to potentially win in the league..?

They've on the whole made more bad calls than good with managers. But the main reason I am anxious is the desperation to keep him infers a lack of confidence in plan B.
We're deluded if we think Poch would come to us. He was interviewed in 442 magazine this month and said that his ambition is to win the Premier League after having come so close with Spurs previously.

*and thats assuming we don't start to fall backwards against other teams currently below us who are doing things more intelligently.
well the Khans got the last appointment (Silva) right. Appointment came out of left field, he oversaw one of our best ever seasons winning the Championship and then consolidated our position in the PL with four solid mid-table seasons, with a fifth to follow. So why assume the next appointment will be wrong?
They've on the whole made more bad calls than good with managers. But the main reason I am anxious is the desperation to keep him infers a lack of confidence in plan B.
Can't win can they? if they don't try hard enough to sign Silva again they get castigated. If they try hard they get condemned as desperate.
The lack of information is slightly disturbing. Either the club knows Marco is going or he is actually stalling and the club is holding its breath basically.
Even if the clubs first choice is Marco, I expect them to have already drawn up a short list and that they are actively sounding out suitable candidates.
I mean, Iraola feels like a non starter for us but Crystal Palace is heavily linked with him, he has turned down AC Milan apparently and he is already settled in England. So if there is a 1% chance that he could even consider us- then we should be all over Iraola. Same with Glasner, even if the chances are next to nothing. But that means us being proactive and not reactive.
Moving fast and decisive is key so that we have a new manager in place early to be able to have a say in shaping the squad, because there is a lot of work to be done

Don't think it's a case of "can't win". Every contract renewal or transfer turns into a bit of a shambles with us in a way that is beyond normal.
The club should have had an offer and set a deadline. We're now in a situation where we have a manager who has been looking around at other clubs has been keeping us hanging around as a backup option.
I do think it comes across as a bit desperate and not the behaviour of a well run club.
Midday Friday and still nothing. 🕰
On Wednesday, I asked a friend who has links with someone at Benfica and the response came back:
'Benfica is currently completely unaware of the situation. The board doesn't know what to do. Mourinho remains the coach. Marco Silva is a difficult option, especially since many people don't want him. We'll have to wait.'

There is a good case for every manager SK has appointed which could easily have worked out. Symons, wasn't Danny Murphy one of the advisors, fan favourite. Magath, track record of keeping teams up etc. There was no guarantee that Silva would have been successful when he was appointed and I doubt anyone on here was over the moon when he was given the job.
Florentino Perez has just said on Spanish tv that he hasnt spoken to jose mourinho to date and that there will be more than one managerial candidate for the post at R Madrid. So everything thats been reported and said so far is bs
Mourinho is confirmed to be going back to Madrid, Ornstein has just tweeted about it. So Benfica deffo need a new manager now and that probably increases the chances of Marco taking it. Seems an odd sideways step in all honesty because Porto are likely to be favourites for the title again and Benfica are in the qualifiers for the Europa League so yes he'll have European football, but I don't even think they'd be favourites to win it plus its a weaker league?

Funny you should mention ST's. I was contemplating sharing one with a couple of old geezers in Yeovil. We had even decided on transport routes and ticket exchange options. One of the old geezers has baled solely on the Siva stay/go pantomime as he wouldn't sign up if he stayed, "yawn football", and this has dragged on so long compared to other similar scenarios he has spent his stash on something else. Can the club stop Marco leaving his post until the 30th June?
My tea leaves say this will be another excuse to do late transfers business, however this pans out.
I don't think we need to be too shy about approaching "big" name managers as the owners are/were prepared to make Marco the third best paid manager in the Premier League. That sort of money should attract top coaches.

Maybe they gave him a deadline at the beginning of the season. Maybe the deadline day is Monday 1st June.
Just want it sorted stays or goes I am leaning to him staying but no one knows the clubs offers.
Want him gone personally, treating our club like a fall back option.
He wants to go Benfica, we should have him on gardening leave and seek a replacement.
Him crawling back to us with higher salary if he doesn't get his Benfica wish is very poor from the owner.
:Khan_you_fix_it:
I'm sure SK will have a limit to what he is prepared to put up with....
But as others have said... we CANNOT lose another whole closed season twiddling our thumbs and relying on 11th hour transfers...
COYW
It's been widely reported that Marco's issue is having more control over transfers. I think he has been previously promised targets will come in earlier, then had to grin and bear it when signed on deadline day.
The Club do save money by haggling and waiting but it has been proven that our signings need time with Marco before he puts them in the first team. It's a false economy in a way.
He is probably sick of it happening every window. And most of us fans agree with that I think.
However, this situation has dragged on now and I feel a decision should have been made on this month's ago. The last few performances (apart from the Newcastle match) were horrendous. Maybe a fresh perspective would be good for the Club and players alike. But I don't know where that fresh perspective will come from and we should be careful what we wish for.
I am really torn but at this stage I just want something to happen!

The irony here is that none of the fans actually have a genuine clue what's going on, or what his preference actually is and he could be more committed to Fulham than ever?
What he's stated publicly is that he didn't feel like the Newcastle game and the end of the season, was like saying goodbye.
He's said that he wants what's right for the club and that this coming summer is pivotal for the club.
He's mentioned talking to the club about setting out a strategy for next season and being ambitious still, loving the club and his time with us.
If he does sign again with us, then nothing's changed and, if press are even to be believed (which isn't a guarantee) he may re-sign having turned down his home club and CL football for staying.
What the abola article apparently also says is that the Khan's are willing to back Silva with £150m this summer too.
Which if true, and we secure the futures of Raul and Wilson, could finally see us build out the depth and quality of squad we need.
This link works, but for some reason it's not pulling through.. It suggests Marco never had an agreement with Benfica and it never got to that stage
https://x.com/FulhamTransfer/status/2060891954221646136?s=20
According to the article in "a bola" Money isn't the problem, Silva wants a bigger say on the transfers and the running of the first team, something Benfica is not keen on. That article suggest that Fulham has offered Silva a big transfer budget and a pay rise but he hasn't sign so there must be a sticking point somewhere.

completely agree, what worries me is he didn't seem to have an answer other than swapping a few players around which surprised me after the football we played to get out of the championship. I can see more of the same next season and if we give him this big contract and have to sack him it will cost us big paying him off.
As Oliver Cromwell said, if you're going, let's be done and for gods sake go.

Ben Jacobs (very reliable journo) saying tonight that Silva has now agreed to join Benfica.
Let's face it, Benfica is a dream job for Silva and if it became available with the right level of control (which is now being reported as so) then I can understand why he has been holding out for it.
Having said that, if it didn't come with acceptable terms then he would seem to have every intention of signing a new contract with us. He can hardly give updates pertaining to this, but I am sure the board will be aware, and be working in the background for a contingency (if not, it's their fault as much as his if we take time to find a suitable replacement).
On one hand, I don't mind if he leaves as his decision making and team selection has definitely not been at 'genius' level for a while, and the football boring, but on the other hand I doubt whether the likes of Kevin will stay.
Overall, though, time for a new chapter and for me anyway no hard feelings and honestly wish him well

I agree that he is messing us around, and maybe we shouldn't be so patient with him. If he's not fully committed right now, then we should move on.

Like, till now the managers appeared commited to clubs future and prospects...will it make the players feel like they should be questioning buying into the direction of the club if Marco is pushing to move elsewhere.
Tricky indeed. At this point if he's clearly flirting with another company, I'd definately be very proactive in seeking other interest with the likes of Poch/Slot etc. if we're willing to spend big on Marco, give that warchest to someone else if they want it.
Quote from: Chesh on May 31, 2026, 11:49:06 PMLet's face it, Benfica is a dream job for Silva and if it became available with the right level of control (which is now being reported as so) then I can understand why he has been holding out for it.
Overall, though, time for a new chapter and for me anyway no hard feelings and honestly wish him well
Why would Kevin not stay? If we bring in anew manager who sets his teams up to play which benefits Kevin then he will thrive.
As often said, the only people who really know what is going on is Silva & the Khan's (maybe the CEO). That of course doesn't stop the world & their dog having a view. Given that Silva was keen to get Kevin & Bobb in, he could easily be using Benfica to get what he wants out of the Khan's as using Fulham to get what he wants out of Benfica. If he remains we have stability & if he goes then the jury will be out for next season.

Absolutely.

Totally unsatisfactory what's going on.Always the fans left in the dark.Big Fan of Marco but I do feel a certain mistrust in how he's handled this situation.

can only assume this whole post is tongue in cheek considering the mention of Fabregas after completely laughing off Poch.
I honestly have no idea who we should be going after (not McKenna, not Ange, not Slot) but surely this is the best time to have to replace Silva.
The 3 promoted teams weak on paper (though same was said last year), managerial merry-go-round elsewhere, some teams around us have European distractions.

Well then we might as well never post again. It's off season and Marco is the only person left to either sign or not sign and Fulham are not known to the most forthcoming with information.
There appears so little coverage of Benfica & Silva on Sky or the Beeb I'm surprised so many are getting hot under the collar because Talk Gibberish are pushing it. It may happen, it might not.
Silva getting some stick here but Wilson seems to get a free pass & their situations are pretty much the same.

With the greatest of respect, why do you come across as so snide with a large portion of your posts? This is a discussion forum, if you think that someone's post is so outrageously unbelievable, then why don't you just ignore it rather than being snarky? Given that we're supposedly offering Silva a salary that would make him a top 4 earner in the richest league in the world, it's not totally unrealistic to assume we could potentially tempt a big name manager with a big salary and an ambitious transfer window to give them a platform to build their rep further, which is the point of this forum to debate those possibilities rather than being rude to one another?
Looks like Marco to Benfica is almost done

Bit of a childish attitude for a professional sportsman to adopt but on his form over most of his contract, Silva is probably the only manager who would pick him & then not play him in what might be his best position.

@SuperFreeman
Not that anyone cares and least of all Marco but if one is put their opinion anywhere it surely is on this forum.
I have lost so much respect for Marco because of this "will he won't he" showing. Yes yes i see people state that he is "in his full right to do so with a contract going out" but one thing is the legal requirements and another is the perception of his choices and the moral obligations that one can argue he should feel towards both the fans that has supported him for all these years and the club at large.
Likewise, I would argue that we have some of the worst PR teams in English football. Might have worked with this "if we just don't say anything at all then all is well" attitude back in the 90s. But in 2026 fans will speculate on social media, tensions will grow. And to not see that and react to any degree is mindblowingly amateurish to me.

BBC had similar a day or two ago I think, frustratingly none of the reports given any real clarity as none say there is an agreement and personally I would have thought the only reason for leaks while negotiation is ongoing would be the agent trying to leverage PR because whatever they are after is not entirely happening.

I'm only calling him out because he said we should "Stop spreading so called 'announcements' that continue to be just speculation." This is a message board and we have the right to discuss leaks and rumours should we want to and not just wait for "official" statements.
Thank god this saga is ending. I've loved the Marco tenure, and he's endured a lot of frustration and changed the 'little old Fulham' mentality.
Shame he couldn't say goodbye at CC. I'm not particularly impressed with how this has been handled by both the club and Marco, and it's a shame he leaves under a slight cloud, as it merited something better.
On the bright side I hope to see a fully rejuvenated attacking line when they are all not burdened with excessive instructions and limited to show minimal individual expression.
I saw Norway crush Sweden yesterday and Bobb was on a another level for his 60 minutes, playing in ways i have yet to see him dare attempt to at all for Fulham. For instance, taking chances, doing unexpected stuff, instead of this meticulous "first you need to pass the ball 15 times and have a wide open clear shot on goal or don't you dare" limitations.
Sky now reporting its nearly done.
Finally, an end to the saga.
Thanks for the memories Marco! Youve been great for us.
Fulham, its your move. Massive, massive appointment this.
