Are you yet another one of these

"I'm off, please don't ask me to stay; ok alright then I'll stay but only because you love me"

people or unlike them are you genuine?  I suppose if you are, i'll now never know...

This has to be a wind-up.  I won't blow sunshine up your jacksie, BestofBrede, but I would be very disappointed if I could no longer read your opinions and posts.

Sorry you feel that way mate.

You have been posting on here a long time and have always seemed to get on with everyone - including today.

Hope you reconsider but, if not, - all the best.

Read it properly and you will see that he is saying BYE BYE to all the idiots who posted useless rumours. He is not saying he is leaving, just hoping that the rumour mongers and fools amongst us give it a rest now that the window has closed.

At least, that is MY take on it, and to be perfectly honest I agree with him 110%.

isnt that because he's shut down his account and so they have to show something under his name?

Exactly right.

My reading of what he has said is that FoF is just a clique and that no-one outside the clique gets a look in. I have looked back through some of todays posts and can't find anything as yet that might have prompted such a reaction - other than perhaps the fact that he has responded to some threads and his posts in those have not been directly responded to - but in that he is very much in the majority. If there is a clique on here its a pretty bloomin' big one.

Agree with White Noise's theory on this one, and think it's a bit strange, not the feeling I've got about the forum at all and I'm pretty new myself.

I wouldn't agree with that.  Most of the time it seems fairly cliquish here to me.  In my case, I still love the site and I am not throwing my toys out of the pram. I am just stating an honest opinion.

Yeah I'd agree with that.

People regularly address each other with their actual names, for instance. This gives off a very exclusive vibe to me.

Yep most of you lot are definitely cliquey! A small inner sanctum that talk to each other!
Seems you need to be able to write all your posts eloquently & with originality!
But we ain't all intelligent novelists!

But as above, like reading through the site. So I just don't post much!

Ohh! Just had a thought!

All us thickies that post idle boring chit chat, should form our own clique on here!

I'll start a list:

1) Me.
2)

First of all I hope nobody is driven away by the clique of people who are at times a bit exclusive. But as they know and have met each other one expects it. I also hope that nobody is a victim of a phrase I learned the other day from somebody who advised me I was a victim of Cyber Bullying. Made me laugh but it is very easy on here to invent grievances real or imagined and try and make the snowball grow until a few beileve it.

Nobody should be made to feel they don't belong. What ever their opinion. I have no idea what the post means and could well be an attack on all the false rumour mongers. Although there were so many stories that were jouno led it is hard to see what was invented and what wasn't. All should be made welcome after the Mods have done all the paperwork and interviews.

Every internet forum is like this. Those who post the most regularly get to know each other and it may appear to exclude others. But why do we all act like kids on the internet? Just dip in when it suits, and dip out when it suits. I would have rated Best of Brede in my top 10 posters, so it's a shame he's burgered awff, but Jesus grow some balls and just go with the flow.

I've never seen anyone on here personally abuse anyone else, and that is surely what really matters. If poster 1 wants to call poster 2 by his/her first name, who gives a flying fugg?! If you're going to leave for a while, then just slip away quietly without the dramatics.  fp.gif

We're all Fulham, but we're all very different too.

Fair go KCat - I have never called you by your first name on this MB although I plead guilty to some other posters. But when I met them in the flesh I didn't go around saying "Would you like another drink Silver Fox?" or " Can you please stop kissing me every time Fulham scores LB number 11". It's very hard not to address them by their first names when you have known them since Tosh Chamberlain wore short trousers, and I more than anybody on this MB gets called by his first name.  It doesn't worry me although it might have done if I had been called Tarquin or Cedric.
I remember meeting a fellow Fulham fan in Derby and I asked him his name. "Leon," he replied. " Yeah, but what do you post as?" "Leon," he replied. From now on I'm going to refer to him as the Hitchin Warrior - none of these first names on here  092.gif

Just out of curiosity am I in the clique or am I a fringe? Need to know where I stand so I can decide if I want to continue visting this site.  As eveyone knows I am a wellspring of football knowledge and trivia, but if no one is going to listen and acknowledge my superiority I may as well leave too.  Infact I may start my own website "friendsoffulahmwhodontvisitfriendsoffulahm.com"

It does sometime come over as quite cliquish here at times.A lot of people on here have met each other and are friends, and hand on heart,I honestly don't think they are trying to exlude anyone, however if you are on the outside of this familiarity it can come across as very "Animal Farm"(all animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others).
And I can put my hand up and say that I have felt that way on more than one occasion, and what really sends people over the edge is when newbeis start posting and appear to leap frog over you in appeared acceptance on the site, people are only people after all and all ego's are fragile.
I'm one of the oldies who has been here from the begining(for my sins) and the board has always been strong, but people come and people go and things always change,as in life.

I've stamped my feet and thrown a strop and stormed off never to return only to come back cap in hand months later-nothing wrong with that(apart from feeling like a soft tart). This place is called Friends of Fulham and thats's what it's all about at the end of the day,the football club we all adore and that's what it should always be about,if you posted once or 1500 times, as long as  you love the club(and don't be a muppet) anyone and everyone is and should be made welcome.

So if you know no one or know everyone it shouldn't and doesn't matter, just enjoy the site and go easy on the mods-they do a fantastic job and this place wouldn't be here with out them! 092.gif 098.gif

Own up Michael - what's your real name?
Seriously I can see that we can be perceived as being cliquey. I am on first name terms, however, with people I have not met but that's because I am the outgoing, friendly, boring up market novelist that I am. People take pity on me - well not everyone - some hate me but everyone is an outsider to start with. There are no rules to being part of FOF - no secret handshakes, passwords or doing unspeakbale acts with goats. It is just that some posters know other posters and this friendliness, familiarity and bonhomie is bound to come through. It really isn't that hard to become part of the so-called clique. Post often, don't criticise anyone unless it is Jimmy Bullard or Steve Marlet ( or in my case Reg Stratton) and just remind yourself that everyone is entitled to their opinion even if they are wrong  092.gif

This was aimed at the original poster. The idea that this place is cliquey is stupid. You can earn your place, it comes with contributing. If the original poster thrives on drama and anonymity, go and post on the offal. Simple. FOF is for FRIENDS, simply.

For the record, i quite like Bestofbrede's posts and i find his 'retirement' a bit odd.

Although I do know a few people on the board and consider them friends, I can see where some people consider it 'cliquey' sometimes and I consider myself out of said 'clique'.
It doesn't upset me. I just put this down to
1) Yes, people have known each other for years. Acceptable!!

2) People dont reply to my posts because a) theres's a lot going on with that thread. b) my posts are sh1t. c) they dont understand my humour. All acceptable!!

3) People that post on here more regularly than myself and build 'relationships' or enjoy each others posts. Acceptable!!

4) Part of No.3 - Some people tend to 'arse lick' certain others for the sake of it. Irritating but hey!!

All in all, it's all part of a forum, one that we all signed up to and seem to enjoy.

Yours
Leon (or Hitchin warrior for Johns sake)

I find this clique thread being pejorative but I sense it is quickly becoming ameliorated and approbative.

I think the more important question to ask is if FoF is a normative or comparable clique.  093.gif

Post by: White Noise on September 03, 2011, 07:38:07 AM
I just don't get the clique thing at all but if you guys feel it then I guess it is a reality for you.

There are about 12 posters who all know each other mostly from the very first official messagebaord format from years ago. 12 out of about 200-300 active posters. They have been on this board from the start and in some instances on here I think it would be weird for them to use each others messageboard handles rather than their real names. People are just being nice to each other! The reality, and I can and have proved it statistically, is that these people are mostly not in the 20 most frequent posters on the site these days. They almost all post a lot less than they used to and other people post a lot more. Lots of people have mentioned in recent weeks how many new posters there are and the 'Have we ever introduced ourselves' thread and the others that exist like it are surely evidence that this is a very friendly, welcoming and inclusive place where people delight in seeing new posters join in.

There are, broadly speaking, two ways of posting. You can either post what you think and what interests you or you can post to provoke a response. I have always done the latter. To me it has always been an exercise in finding out what people like and respond to. A messageboard works if you get people responding to threads, so the blunt tool of threads like 'How old are and when what was your first Fulham game' appeal to me because they get even the most infrequent of posters involved. Threads like 'Guess the gate', 'Predict the score' and 'Name the line-up' are just a good way of getting people regularly involved and initiating discussion. For my money though its all the other posts, those that fall into the former category, that really make the site and in that regard BestofBrede was a valued member of the site IMHO.

Cyberspace is weird though guys. It is best not to take it too seriously IMHO and I speak as someone who has taken it too seriously in the past. None of this is real life, it is designed to be an escape from real life and I think its quite a good one at that. Maybe you think I'm in the clique? I have never met a single person from this site and no-one really knows me as a person. In Cyberspace its all about impressions you form and I think the clique one is bogus but thats just my reading of it. People say very nice things about me on here and on Twitter but in reality they have just built up an impression based on me posting lots and lots of info and trying to be helpful. I don't know a 10th of what some people think I know about Fulham and I am really not the nice guy some would have you believe I am - as the self regarding nature of this post in part attests. Cheers! 082.gif

Indeed. Thats what I was trying to say, there isn't a clique, I can see why some people may percieve there is but there isn't. If people know each other that can't be helped.

Lets all get on with posting other nonsence and end this thread.

That sums it up nicely for me. I use my real name because I think it's nonsense not to but I don't know other posters (bar one) off board and have no idea whether I'm part of the clique. Or care.

Big mistake in life generally though is to take yourself too seriously because others won't. Unless you're Gaddafy or similar.

Show me a message board that doesn't have cliques...

By virtue of factors such volume of posts, quality of contribution, length of time someone has been a memeber, whether people have met face-to-face, etc. then these relationships and cliques are bound to develop.

Accept if for what it is, and don't be offended by it.

I have only met one FOFer face-to-face, have only had a few PM exchanges with others, and don't feel part of any inner sanctum but so what? I don't come on here for that.

I come on here because it is:
- Home to like-minded souls...we are all Fulham.
- A source of great information around the club, its history, its players and its fans.
- Has some great banter and triviality in between the "serious" threads.
- Tolerant, where differences are respected and personal abuse is kept to a minimum.
- A well moderated board.

Cliquety-clique.

Please reconsider Brede, I have been where you are and quickly regretted it, so please reconsider. Personnally, I have not met anyone in the flesh but as for use of first names, in my case you only have to look at my profile, it is there for anyone to see.

Seems you need to be able to write all your posts eloquently & with originality!
But we ain't all intelligent novelists!

But as above, like reading through the site. So I just don't post much!
Ohh! Just had a thought!

All us thickies that post idle boring chit chat, should form our own clique on here!

I quite like goats  :dft011:

And I quite like unspeakable acts  098.gif

Will that be a clique within a clique, or a seperate 'friends of the friends of Fulham forum'?!!

Well I have only noticed one really cliquey thread over the last few months and I presumed it was because people had known each other personally or been on this forum along time.

Regarding the 'which Footballer' post, you would have to know people quite well and know that they wouldn't take it the worng way is you choose a footballer they didn't agree with.

I like this Forum as people don't intententionally go out of they way to insult and be nasty to posters, and I've found out alot of interesting info and funny posts. Also if you ask a questions generally somebody will reply with the answer, plus some funny responses which make me laugh.

Another point is that on my smartphone I can only seem to reply to the whole thread and not to individual quotes, which I can do on my PC at home, so in that case it doesn't look like I'm replying to a remark an indivual poster has made.

Well I hope there doesn't become a seperate group of posters as suggested as I think this forum as it is with all the poepl who are on it at the moment, plus I wish Best of brede would come back

As cyberspace goes I prefer this to Twitter or Facebook. At the end of the day we are all linked by a Love Of Fulham so are probably less self regarding than most other forums as FFC is more important than all of us put together. Having said that I hope Brede hangs about.

I don't post a lot but have read FoF for quite some time (prior even to joining). Speaking as something of an inert part of this forum I dont think it is really fair to say there is a clique. Some post more than others. Some know others more than others. Everyone brings something different and that is what makes FoF worth reading and interacting with. We all come with different opinions save for one, a shared love of Fulham. It's a shame if some feel maligned but simply because you don't get a direct reply to every post you make should not be taken as a slight. Sorry to see you go Brede. I read everyone's posts with interest (including yours) and that you have thrown your rattle out of the pram is a shame (whatever the reason).

Frankly, bit of a drama queen...

A very interesting concept by dear old Marcus. especially when I look out the window at noon my time, I see the sun is shining bright in the sky and I say, "where I live, at this precise moment, it's daytime, not night-time". Opinion or fact?  Truth or Perspective?  fp.gif

I do accept its correct for the context you have used it in though - just being narrow-minded and subjective in my above observation.  :dead horse:

I suspect this was as far as the discussion needed to go really, albeit we would then have lost out on the goat discussion.

I don't think it's cliquey - sure, we've all had our 'thread-killer' moments and some posters know each other better than others.  But for all that it's a friendlier, more sensible place than a lot of boards.  Hopefully he'll be back.

Sorry, but in my view this is all very pathetic. If you don't like a poster then don't read their posts. If you don't feel as though people appreciate what you're posting, then don't make a song and dance about it... Isn't it obvious that it does you no favours? Just grow a pair, get over it, and if your discontent continues then leave the forum, but do so quietly and with your dignity maintained. Sorry, I don't have much time for these acts of attention seeking, this is an adult's forum afterall, and if you don't feel appreciated, don't throw your toys out of the pram.

To be fair I think BBP means that if you are unhappy with the reply, or lack of reply, then you need to consider whether this forum is for you! It is not for others to change to please the likes of Best of Brede. If he is not happy then that is his perogative and also his problem!

There willl always be cliques and disagreements as people on here have differing relationships with each other. However, the main posters are generally not malicious and it is up to us to work our way into the "inner circle" or stay on the periphery, whichever we prefer!

Not at all, all I'm saying is that we're supposed to be adults on here, and the fact that you feel that you're not being listened to or appreciated or not included on an internet forum, and then decide to leave a vague message suggesting that his annoyance at the board is everyone's fault but his is quite pathetic. Fair enough, if you feel strongly about it, then create a thread and discuss it properly, but to create this thread, which suggests only that he is unhappy and feels that a clique on here excludes him, and then to simply walk away from the thread, is quite an attention seeking act and is surely not one that can let him leave with his head held high... I'm not for one moment saying that if you disagree, don't post (I presume that's what you mean by 'follow the norm'), afterall, this is a forum where everyone has opinions. But just because you feel that your opinions are being considered, try and talk reasonably about rather than throw your toys out of the pram by starting a thread that doesn't indicate very much at all, other than he feels unappreciated.

Sorry, as well as the other members of this site losing out on being able to read your opinions and comments, you now are incapable of responding to posts you agree or disagree with - so it is your loss as well!

Clique or no clique the posters on here are generally more welcoming and rational than on the Offal which is why this board was set up and certainly why most of the members here have signed on.

If anyone wants to call me by my first name then you are welcome to - it's Jim. Failing that I'm happy to chip in ever so often or just read from the sidelines.

We gave up trying to grow pears and dug them all up last year. There were always small and hard as opposed to soft and squishy and the wasps made a mess of anything worthwhile. Stick to apples and raspberries.

I grow apples and pears but dug up my rasperries a couple of years ago as i found they 'walked' into the rest of my plot. Just shows you how different things suit different people!

Sounds like a lack of discipline on your allotment. I would not tolerate berry bullying at any level and use polite notices and rows of carrots to mainatin order. In your case ' No Raspberries beyond this point please' would have probably suffice. Second warning would have involved blackcurrants. Try replanting new raspberies with the brocolli. Those boys don't mess about.

Oh they tried to take over my Rhubarb and goose berry section, probably as they were Autumn Bliss that somebody on the site had given me as cuttings. I've been trying to persuade the council to give me the vacant plot next to mine with out much luck, if i do i'll have a go at summer raspberries. No problem with my blackcurrents or blackberries though they are very well behaved :-)

Best get back on thread as otherwise we will be labelled the 'selective allotment massive' and be ridiculed for days or until Wales get one over on us. Nice work with the rhubarb though.

You can come and do my lawn then Fred, I grow grapes, tomatoes and peppers, and that's about it. We've been hit by the wildest lawn weeds I have ever seen, this year, terrible.

LM. Have you tried talking to the lawn weeds to find out why they are so cross. A bit of diplomacy now could be a big saving later on . . . like when the errant raspberries from Berserkers allotment try and make a move. Get the lawn weeds on side if I were you.

FFC. I thought people with apple trees in their gardens were bordering on the posh. More herb enriched chipolata than sausage folk

Sheesh, page 7 of this thread took a really unexpected and creative turn.  Glad to see nobody's used the "toys out the pram" metaphor again.  At least until now.

Off topic, all this reminds me... I really DO want to know what happened with my string beans this year... All vine, no fruit and then they just died!  What gives?

Are there raspberries in an adjoining plot giving them that stare. You know the one eye partly closed, head slightly tilted one. That means they intend making a move and the beans simply could'nt cope with that. Try peas. They don't any crap from anybody or hire in some of these wild lawn weeds. A rampaging dandelion in a bear skin waving a wooden club should do it . . . . . .

I think the milk in my ovaltine was a bit iffey

There is a support network available. You need to berry your past and get on with living without the need of a supporting cane or netting.

I object to the elitist and cliquishness of these gardeners. I have acres of what can only be described as verdant jungle with more weeds than a hippie festival.
All this talk of growing things that you can eat is excluding me from the topic and I'll have you know that when I mow my grass I do so with Boydy's combine harvester because not even a ride-on is going to cut it. When you see the King Brown snakes slither away followed in hot pursuit by the blue tongue lizards you just know that you have to be careful where you walk. That's what makes life exciting.
Bloody hell – the next thing is that these gardeners will be using each other's first names. Where do they think they are? On Facebook or somewhere? :down_under:

...BoB, sorry you think this site has become a clicque - a clique of 957, name me one single other message board that is any different in having perceived cliques and I will have sympathy. Your posts have been appreciated, written reactions amade yourre not always the thoughts of the majority, so it is more than likely that most members enjoyed your posts.

I notice you have resigned as a member and have given yourself a 'Guest' category, fair enough, you obviously suffered in silence at your perception of the clicques on FOF, you never mentioning such thoughts before - until this post.

Sorry, as well as the other members of this site losing out on being able to read your opinions and comments, you now are incapable of responding to posts you agree or disagree with - so it is your loss as well!

Not sure where you will now go to feel part more of things? Blind obstinance will no doubt stop you from re-joining, maybe you will apply as a new member, but you will suffer so much of your own personal angst for no real reason.

You will of course be welcomed back as your original persona; the longer you leave it, the more of a martyr you will become, to yourself...

Completely agree, basically what I meant to say.

I am never perturbed when someone says they are leaving this forum. Only on six occasions have I PM'd the defectors asking them to return. :007:
Christ, I wasn't even upset when I left the Board. I was fed up being manhandled by someone with opposing views to me on everything from social justice to goats. It was like having my head on a coconut shy at the fair for him to hurl rocks at every possible opportunity.
There was no note of farewell, just a slither away from it all to cocoon myself in the joyous life I enjoy in the middle of nowhere on the edge of a desert with only goats for company.
Alas my absence was noted, which was not what I wanted at all. Nobody seems to be upset that we no longer hear from our mate in the Channel Islands or Low Tide at Putney Bridge, so why they should be bothered at mine, or anyone else's absence from this forum?
In the early days when the number of posters to this forum could have been accommodated in a sentry box, numbers were important, but these days if anyone leaves, for whatever reason, so what?
That said, I would miss some of you but then you are the ones in my clique! I would just email you or keep up with you on Facebook which is precisely what happened when I left this forum five hundred posts ago.
Finally may I say this about First Names? When we originally signed up for the old Offal MB it was probably very wise to have some form of anonymity otherwise you might have been visited by Ostrich Watch to throw you down the stairs.
The advent of Facebook, however, and full names became de rigueur and suddenly we were able to put real names to the nomenclatures we used on forums such as this. Those who are not on Facebook believe that privacy is important and that real names should not be used in a public domain whereas others couldn't give a monkey's. But this friendliness should not be construed as being cliquey – it is just informality and there's nowt wrong with that.

aha Mr. LB, you might have missed the subtlety in the thread as t how we got onto gardening. It was all about pairs (pears) to begin with. Those damsons you mention, are those the ones in distress all the time?
Yes JohnE, call me by whatever name you feel most comfortable, just don't call me darling, and it has to be reiterated, that taking life too seriously might just shorten it for you.

Now, back to the thread subject matter. Interesting call there KCat regarding Mint, that, with the smell of wild garlic, make forest walks a complete pleasure, until you meet the raspberries, of course. And someone mentioned rhubarb, reminds me I need to do an apple and rhubarb crumble today.

Mods, can we get the keys out now and consign this thread to history.

While this was a reasonable debate at first, its getting more and more exposure, more reads and making the board look more and more cliquey only fuelling the original posters fire.

Its getting silly, almost as many posts as a decent matchday thread!
