How dare you, this is no way to run a club and those handling our transfers are complete buffoons.

In all seriousness though - in a FFP space that's hard seemingly to manouvre in- fair play to those handling the club for keeping us in those position now without getting into any hot water on the FFP front.

Interesting to see Villa in trouble. Plenty of decent players in those teams people will be taking a look at though.

Quote from: Bronaldinho on June 06, 2024, 10:22:38 AMThere's a lot of players that will get their agent asking around - especially when it comes to people at the 26-30 mark, as that long term contract will likely be the last big one of their career.

Andreas has developed well in the last 2 years, someone Silva is keen to keep - plus plays a pivotal role with his press.

Not sure many 10's on the market with that press ability available. Free Kicks and set plays are a strong point of his but we do have other suitable takers like Wilson in the squad.

But I'd only sell Andreas if we could find a pressing alternative, and we received upwards of £30m.

I'd be very surprised if we managed to get £30mill + for him.

Good player - excellent at pressing, decent set pieces, great stamina - but his overall output as an attacking player in the final third is pretty average for his position and minutes played. And you'd expect he's only going to depreciate in value at his age barring some sort of 'breakout season'. I reckon we'd do well to get £20 mill for him.

I'd worry about seeing him go because his pressing is so key to how Marco has us play, but equally I do think he's a player we could upgrade on.

I mean, that list is a combination of two financial basket cases (Leicester and Everton), clubs that have outspent us three-fold (Forest), clubs that have massively outperformed us in the league (Villa), Newcastle who fall into two of the foregoing categories, and Chelsea who fall into all three. Not sure that this is a particularly meaningful achievement. Bit like congratulating Luton's board for having an excellent 23/24 season in terms of FFP compliance.

Our position is a lot better than it could have been and I would much rather be where we are now than any of those above when you consider how our hands have been tied in recent years.

No problem if you don't see it that way.

Deuce

I cant see Villa paying us money AND Ramsey for Andreas. Thats just wishful thinking.

I hope Andreas stays. His contributions are heavily underappreciated.

I also don't like Chalobah rumours at all. The price they seemingly want is way too high. They tried to do the same thing with Broja last window (what was it, 50 million?). They are in dire need of money because of their FFP troubles and we shouldn't help them by overplaying their average/slightly above average players, in my opinion of course.

Broadly agree but, valuation aside, I reckon Chalobah could be a smart acquisition...

It's a fair valuation as well and if anything might be undervalued. 20-25m would be a good bit of business. That's what I would have expected to get for Tosin if he had multiple years of his contract left and I think Chalobah is little bit better and he is younger.

Our "hands have been tied" because of poor business in 2018-2020 which is why the board is "much maligned". So yes I'd rather be in Europe next season like half those clubs than congratulating ourselves for having only just fully shaken off that past trauma by releasing Kongolo.
You crack on then pal.

One that got away?

Remember we were heavily linked with zirkzee with split opinion on here at the time...
Turns out much like gyokores he's gone on to great success and currently being eyes up with AC Milan about to trigger his 40m release clause at Bologna.

Ah well, we're looking in the right places, hopefully we can get some more quality in this summer

Contract signed until June 2028 after a medical on Wednesday apparently...

What I would give to batter Chelsea next year with Tosin giving the ball away after another brain lapse moment

Unfortunately, Tosin won't be giving the ball away from the bench. Tosin is very wise, because he'll be rich, injury free and ready to play in August 2028.

MickTheBeard

The biggest problem is he is 28 years of age which is more or less the limit of return on transfer money invested in him as I have said before we again are at crossroads again keep him and lose money on him or sell hopefully a profit to invest again or to keep chasing our tail not enough quality in the academy and not finding and unearthing unknown talent from scouting network we are relying on silva improving players who have been discarded by other clubs it won't always work a quick example wilson paid 11 mill if we sold him end of new season must be coming into his 4 year must have an option a further year what would we get 3 mill no more his wages would be high to a championship club so do we keep him and let him go for free.Just not good enough.

I believe these clubs need to sell by the 30th June so I can see Tony taking this transfer to the wire to achieve a good price, we often see he has paid less than what's reported.

I wouldn't be against this transfer per se, just not at the price quoted. If what you say happens, I'd be okay with the transfer.

Just read on sky sports that Chelsea claim they don't need to sell by 30th June only before next year.

Super Mick

I don't give a monkeys about Chelsea.  They've been as dodgy as City over the years.

hovewhite

All there players always vastly over priced, though chalobah would be an upgrade on tosin.

Tabby

Chalobah for £25 million doesn't seem that out of the ordinary when we signed Bassey who wasn't even starting at Ajax for £20 million and were willing to pay a similar amount for Morato (according to reports).

Yeah I can't see how £20 to £25 is unreasonable. Perhaps £20 with add ons. Most Chelsea fans seem to really rate him and think he's better than the others they have spent a fortune on. He looked really good end of the season and a few seasons ago when he had a run. Three main concerns are: His progressive passing stats aren't brilliant with long pass completion not great. Heading duels as well. They are two of Basseys weaker points and Tosin s biggest strengths which is why they looked so good together for a while. Also injuries of course.

Other than that actually quite similar to Bassey stats wise for duels and tackles etc and we all love Bassey of course so no bad thing. Could we be a bit weak in the air and struggle with distribution a bit? Possible but generally I think we could be better defensively with him vs Tosin despite conceding a few more in the air. Whatever folk think of Tosin don't think anyone can deny that he was pretty immense for heading duels won in our own box.
