I wouldn't loan Stansfield out to Brum again, even if they paid. He needs to be playing in the league above.

Quote from: StuinSalop on July 31, 2024, 09:35:18 AMStansfield is not going to start any time soon for Fulham.  I would get Brum to stump up some decent cash for a loan again.  Next season Jimenez will be another year older and maybe Stanno can become no2 to Muniz.  Unless we get a bid of £10M plus, he should remain a Fulham player for now.   Having said all that, Marco will know far better than me and if the incoming fee for him means a way of recruiting starting players, then I will concede to others with more knowledge.

Birmingham suggesting that Stansfield wants to go but just makes little sense to me. He'll clearly want to be a prem player. Yes he is unlikely at this stage to play as a loan 9 but if he does well pre season and looks like he is up to it there will surely be other opportunities. One massive thing we have lacked is a decent change up to 2 strikers. When we were behind we were lumping Vini or Muniz up with Mitro and then last year Jimenez up with Muniz. All similar kinds of strikers and just never looked like it would work. In a game we are behind this year he is a million times better option as a second striker with Muniz or Raul. Marco will never start with 2 up front but when we are behind I think he'd look at that change up so Jay will get plenty of 20 to 30 min opportunities in the prem if he sticks around. Add to that the fact that our two new main options left do not exactly have the best fitness records. All praying they stay fit but there is again potential opportunity for him if they don't. Add to all that if he does well this year and Raul doesn't he could become second striker next year. He knows Marco has faith in him as he has said so publicly. He may never get this kind opportunity again that he has been working for at prem level for years. Give all that up for league 1? Seems strange to me.

Flip side from a Fulham perspective £6 million would be a bit of a joke unless there was a massive sell on clause or buy back for around the same amount. Having said that I think when you start getting to £10 million+ you maybe start considering and £15 to £20 million very seriously. That would be a lot of money to turn down for someone that may never make the grade. Yes Birmingham were poor but he hasn't been prolific the last few years. Neither was Muniz of course which is why you take the gamble and turn down £6 million and probably £10m but obviously there comes a point where you cash in if offered enough.

Quote from: LC on July 30, 2024, 09:31:19 PMMan City sold Liam Delap for £15m. Similar age to Stansfield, I would argue Stansfield's stats are better, so I fail to see how we would sell Jay for only £5m
Yeah, this is the thing I don't get with the reported price - and Delap was £15m with £5m in addons!

I can see a scenario where Silva is happy to let him go, and Jay wants to play first team football. But Birmingham in League 1 for £5/6m is peanuts in modern football, when he has another 3+1 years on his contract. I get the Championship isn't awash with cash - there are only a couple of signings in that ballpark this Summer (who weren't already obligations to buy) - but it would also make so much more sense for his development to push for a move to an ambitious Championship club rather than Birmingham.

There's definitely no smoke without fire, and Birmingham are definitely interested. It may also be we're actually putting the story out there to see what interest there is.

The other two things I don't get is, a) Marco Silva has already said Jay will be with the first team this season, and b) I think Jay can get close to 20 championship goals next season if he's in a good team, which would give a high valuation. So either way, selling him this window doesn't make much sense to me.

I think the rumour is nonsense.
It's been reported by John Percy in the Telegraph, one of the most reliable journos, so I don't think this is nonsense at all.

My issue with Stansfield is not that I think he should be starting for Fulham in the Premier League, it's that his market value should be considerably higher than £5m, at least £12-15m in my opinion (especially given as pointed out above Delap going for £15m+). We have a habit of letting our youth talent go for less than they're worth.

There's no doubt he enjoyed his time at Brum but league 1 ?
Maybe the owners have sold him their dream to bring the blues back to the big time like MAF did with many better players.
I still think he would be foolish to go but he has no real loyalty to us.

And he also has no real loyalty to Birmingham, he's an Exeter City fan. Which therefore makes it seem silly to me that we're considering selling him to a League One club when surely we could sell him to a top-half Championship club for at least twice the amount?

So is Josh King. He's played in both friendlies as well, and played well according to the reports. Is Josh King maybe going to get some first team football this season? I'd prefer to loan him to the Championship tbf.

This is a tricky one...he's certainly highly rated, but is it too soon for Prem football? I'd be minded to loan him out with a 6 month recall option.

Im really looking forward to seeimg him in the friendlies tbh. Hope he gets some decent minutes and storms it. But inclined to agree a champ or league 1 loan is probably best for his development unless he really is the next top level cm wonderkid already ready for the top flight. Hes very slight so youd think hed get bossed about abit by grown ass men

Personally - I think it is all just rumours and hearsay. Jay is not going anywhere.

He'd be brilliant to be honest. Versatile too. But one I feel is likely out of reach.

Before any talk of Loans or first team football - give him a long contract so when he does blossom we don't get messed around by Liverpool for the umpteenth time.

Very decent option at the right price. Very versatile. I'd say somewhere on a par with Chalobah. 3 years older but less injury prone I believe. Like Chalobah if we could pick him up for around the £25m mark a good option. Played much more at full back however last season but looked like he did very well.

Not sure about that, he's missed way more games than Chalobah has due to injury

In fairness, in the past couple of seasons he only missed six games due to injury. The season before that, however, he missed 51 games due to a tendon injury.

On the other hand, Chalobah missed 32 games in the past two seasons due to injury.
