We do not particularly need another LW. Iwobi was excellent at LW on tour, Adama can play there and so can Sess. ESR has also enjoyed success as left sided attacking player.  Now don't get me wrong we could upgrade most positions incl striker but I don't see LW as a priority at all. Diop can start LCD but we do need another. DMF is the priority for me.

Seems like the type of signing to make if all the options aren't available or we use CM budget elsewhere.

What worries me the most about signing Philips is that he hasn't played a lot of minutes & a concern of Pep's was always his match fitness not just injury record. If we bring him in late August, it could be October time he's doing 90 mins for us. I think a Palhinha replacement needs to be ready to slot in quite quickly after signing.

I'm not against this transfer. I think theres a top player in there still and with the right environment and manager he can hit the levels he was at before.

Fulham is the place that seems to kick start careers again. If we could get him on a loan with an option I'd be happy

I'm not against the move if it's him & one other.  Palhinha was integral to our team and one of the two we bring in to replace him needs to slot right in because of how late we're leaving it. If Philips was signed the week after Joao left, it's a risk & probably would've been unpopular but at least he would be with us for the whole of pre season to prove himself & adapt to the system. I have no doubt Marco could get the best out of Phillips and recapture that Leeds form.

The thing is the fanbase, the club, talk about going to the next level, improving on last season etc, but if we're relying on our current crop of midfielders to play the majority of minutes for the first 7/8 games because the new signings were brought in late and need time to adjust or build fitness, the points we miss out on in those current crop of fixtures because our midfield wasn't secure enough could be the difference at the end of the season between top half to bottom half

I actually thought he came across as quite a mature footballer for his age whenever I saw him play and had him down as one that could surprise us and make the step up, at least to a championship team.

At least we're creating a pathway for young players to continue playing professionally. If we look at Adebayo, Woodrow, Elliot, Carvalho, Sessegnon, O'Riley etc - whilst many of them moved on and started playing for lower league clubs, they've all pushed on and made their own careers, which I think is a testament to their academy training.

I mean, not being funny but I've said just try and enjoy things and I don't mean it patronisingly. And I doubt Jay was trying to say please keep stum about the club and don't criticise and be greatful etc. and especially not to try and say don't discuss. I'm assuming he just reads some of the stuff and it can come across like peoples blood pressure levels are increasing because of a lack of transfers/rumours. So saying just enjoy the ride, what will be will be etc and don't try and get worked up.

As Somerset mentioned, I've personally been on the board now for about a decade and it really is the same themes with this. We're always late on transfers, we moan about it, then often it comes out great towards the back end, sometimes not. But ultimately, it's just how we do business annoyingly. (Or not for that matter).

So let's enjoy the summer silly season, enjoy a wine, laugh at Freibirds posts    and hope to hell we sign some great players for our European journey the following season.

So for me, LW is not a priority at all.

Centre midfield however is a huge priority.

This is the conclusion I've come to seeing as we've lost Willian and smashed our transfer record on Smith Rowe and have had absolutely zero rumours for any other left wingers that I can think of. Granted, Sess has come in but I can't see him as a stater at this point.

And a few of the gooners I know think ESR is most effective coming off the left.

Not saying I'm right but I just feel confident that our front 4 will include both Smith Rowe off the left and Perreira in the 10.

We have 5, players at least who can play LW currently. ESR, Iwobi, Sess, Godo and traore.

Itll be Iwobi to start one has to assume because hes played there all pre season and hes been great there, ESR at CAM... If that isnt working we can at any point switch them and or bring periera on or into the CAM position with ESR out left where I agree hes been very good at Arsenal

Doesnt need to be looked at rigidly, Marco reportedly likes players that can play multiple possitions.

I dont think we massively need an LW but Id certainly take a good one if doable once other priorities are settled

While of course incoming transfers are more important, I do hope we sell Mbabu and Vini soon too. Nothing against either one of the two, both seem like really good people and Vini even had some great moments, but unfortunately it hasn't worked out for either. It would be best for all parties if they left as soon as possible.
