Technically, yes, his contract expires next summer.

But Utd hold an option to extend it until 2026, so they probably won't lose him for nothing next summer...

We were linked with him last summer. Plays sometimes on the wing but mostly CAM. Doubt theres anything in this, would presumably push ESR to LW if it happened but again, unlikely I think

Available seemingly for around £12m

I'd absolutely love to get him and I'd put £30 + £5 down but if they won't budge off the £40m I'd move on. I think they want that kind of money for a 28 year old with 2 years left on his contract. They know they'll never get that again for him. £30 + £5 for me or walk away as £40m is taking the mick.

Quote from: General on August 19, 2024, 12:43:23 PMDoes look tantalising/exciting.. we'd be pretty solid if this was our starting line up , with perhaps one of the front line changing/being upgraded too. At the moment I'd take out Muniz for Jimenez.

Subs
Muniz
Cairney
Reed
Lukic
Wilson
Cuenca
Castage/Tete
Benda
Sessegnon
Pereira
etc

Starts to look like a strong bench

Much as Id like it it doesnt seem like were looking at both scott AND andre at this point from what Marcos said Publically. I agree Scott doesnt seem like an outright DM but Marco seems to be insinuating hes looking for a singular DM player cb and attacker with no mention of an additional CM so perhaps he really does see something in Scott in a deeper position that were unsure about but he wants to play a slightly different way. 🤷🏻

Fascinated to see what we end up going for. Perhaps we get this done and then really low ball for andre late in the day having given them a deadline for our last bid before pulling it, especially if they get knocked out the cup tomorrow and are in real financial trouble, who knows but currently only 3 players mentioned as priorities for Marco 🤔

I can't see Andre getting done now. Considering all the leg work the club have done going after him for 2 years, I do think it's a very strange decision that we have opted for McTominay as the priority target.

I can only think McTominay is a similar build to Palhinha so will cover for the height we miss in the team now he's departed & Lukic/Reed will now be relied upon to break up play.

He's quality - would be great signing. Was in the France olympic squad. I think he would definitely play on wing for us if we did sign as played their a lot

Quote from: Angus Telford on August 19, 2024, 02:09:04 PMSorry but if Muniz and Traore are both in our starting XI we aren't finishing in the top half, definitely nothing "tantalising" about that front four

How did you come to this conclusion?
Traore has looked dangerous in 90% of games he's played for us and had a brilliant pre-season. He was our biggest threat vs United and is IMO our best winger at the minute.
From Jan onwards Muniz was one of the best strikers in the league and against United looked a handful (considering the limited service)

I suspect they will both be starters for us this season and IMO are two of our more exciting players

I like Muniz he has a lot of potential and he needs to start fulfilling that now. However, to say he was from Jan onwards on of the best striker sin the league is a stretch, he had a purple patch Mid Feb to end of March, think he scored after that against Palace at the end of April, aside from that he wasn't that good. Which is why he needs to start showing that potential most weeks.

Perosnally for me against United, aside the overhead kick he improvised, he as average, he couldnt keep the ball that often and we needed him too. Not sure he won more than one header when the ball was played up to him. Like I say he has the potential and a lo9t of good attributes but he has to start doing that week in week out most of the time. I would sign someone to give him the push he needs, similar to how Borja seemed too get the reaction

This is not really a transfer comment so apologies to all

Fair enough, I was at the game with three people who weren't Fulham fans and they all said they thought Muniz looked good. I can't see us signing another striker and I personally don't mind seeing Jimenez, Muniz and Stansfield as our ST options

Quote from: JimmyConway on August 19, 2024, 12:35:51 PMNoticed Ward-Prowse a sub for Westham on Saturday? Just wondered if new manager there does not see him as a regular? Would possibly prefer him over McTominey if there was a chance of prizing him out of Westham? Box to box type midfielder.
[/
Yeah and they are also linked with a midfielder from PSG

I would take Jwp any day

I'm not sure we need him - he's an upgrade but like for like on pereira who's doing a decent job for us... seems like we've got more pressing needs/concerns right now to spend money on. Wonder why JWP has fallen out of favour so soon. Perhaps he's one dimensional with how he plays and can't adapt to new managers tactics and style of play? We need versatility.
I wouldn't say he is like for like with Pereira? That's ESB. Ward-Prowse is your other midfielder next to a defensive type so no place for someone like Reed or Lukic? He plays with his head up has good vision and scores goals from midfield. He'll do the nitty gritty work as well. Complete midfield type player not just an attacking one or defensive one.

Quote from: Angus Telford on August 19, 2024, 03:28:28 PMTraore is absurdly overrated on this thread. He's had a career of false starts and generally struggled to get in our starting XI. The Man Utd game showed that his one trick, pace, usually gets sussed out by defenders within 20 minutes, and even when he beats his man, his final ball is poor to inconsistent. There's a reason we picked him up on a free.

Didn't Traore help us get 3 points there last season by embarassing a couple of their defenders with his pace? You literally cannot "suss" out pace. Their defender did well in the second instance but Traore was hardly sprinting with the ball at that point.

You don't play for every age level of Spain, Barcelona and 150 odd Prem appearances if he's anywhere near as bad as you make out.

He also was a regular player and starter in a team that finished 7th twice in a row and then struggled after it lost Jiminez to an awful injury, and was then there for half a season (before being loaned to Barcelona) in a team that finished 10th. So he is absolutely capable of being a starter in a top 10 team historically.

One can argue about how he's perceived but he objectively has been good for us since returning from injury and indeed was one of the main reasons we won at Man Utd last year as well as numerous other good performances on his return. So good in fact that he's worked his way into the first team starter position.
In pre season he again was a demon but, it's possible his place needs competition for sure. Fortunately we have Iwobi who can also play wide right moving ESR to the left and Andreas at CAM if we wish (as well as Wilson and Stansfield of course). There are plenty options good enough to push Adama if ends up being better use as a super sub again too.

He might not be top 6 material due to his decision making at times,  but he's a hugely dangerous player to have on the counter particularly and proven more than capable of being a part of a top 10 team in the prem.

As for Muniz, he's an up and coming player that needs minutes if he's going to fulfill his potential. He's looked ready enough to me but the issue is not so much him as the service to him so far and that's what we started to do better last year and hopefully can do again. I'd stick with him 100% but absolutely by all means bring in another attacking option who can play wide, he needs players who can facilitate his goalscoring around him. Hopefully he finds that, I actually wonder if ESR out wide would be the better route for that to happen personally but it's all over to Marco.

Quote from: Angus Telford on August 19, 2024, 03:28:28 PMExactly.

Repeating other posts, but Muniz's form both recently (1 goal in 9 PL starts) and historically is poor. He can't dine out on last year's 8-game run forever. Personally I'd give him until game week 6 and then look to rotate if he hasnt notched up at least a couple of goals - the likelihood of which is around 50:50 IMO.

Traore is absurdly overrated on this thread. He's had a career of false starts and generally struggled to get in our starting XI. Not saying both aren't decent squad options, possibly Muniz can be something more, but i find the prospect of those two representing half our attacking talent this year quite underwhelming.

That's not an irrelevant point at all.

But his purple patch, even when averaged out against the rest of his league performances, were good enough to get him a goals to minutes ratio that was the same as Solanke (and very almost as good as Watkins).

So even if you are right, and that purple patch is the apex of what he's capable of. A small drop off in that form still gives you a striker who could happily bag 10-12 goals across a full premier league season. Which isn't bad in our position.

Also 2 goals and 3 assists for in 4 games of playing time in the prem last season! Always been accused of no end product but actually for us he's been very clinical. Was really unlucky not to score the winner against Arsenal as well as lifted it beautifully but Ramsdale stood up and made a really good save. Incredibly small small sample of course however!

Be interesting to see how he goes with a run in the team. He looked brilliant pre season and did for the first 20 against United.

@jolslover

Quote from: Angus Telford on August 19, 2024, 04:38:21 PM£20 bet with anyone who wants it that at the halfway point of this season, if Traore has started more than 12 of those 19 games, we won't be top half.

Also would bet that as soon as a new CM is in the team, AP moves into the 10 role, ESR on LW, Iwobi RW, Traore on the bench

Did he beat you in an arm wrestle? Seem to dislike him a lot

Less than 2 weeks to go and no sign of any in coming, zero, nothing, zilch!

Of course how would I know anyway?
