Stanno is not going anywhere, that would mean having to sign a striker, winger and a possible loan deal in the time remaining
If it wasn't for the medication I,d be chewing on your skin

To be honest, I'm fine if we don't get another in if we don't sell Stansfield. He has so much potential and I believe he can find it here.

Quote from: The Cravenette on August 30, 2024, 06:20:03 PMThe Jay to Birmingham rumours are still rumbling on.  It makes no sense to me and I will be extremely disappointed if it happens.  I think he will be extremely useful this season and Marco has already stated he intends to give him minutes.  If he was to be sold today it would leave the squad very short I think and also give a bad message to young players joining the academy that the pathway to the first team is nigh on impossible.

If it's true they offered £10 million and it was rejected what figure would we accept?
11 or 12 million for a player who has had one good season in the Championship (his season at Exeter is not really relevant) would be an amazing amount.

As much as I want to keep him and believe he will be PL quality taking the money today instead of playing the long game seems so tempting.

But we are in a good position and should keep him and see if it saves us £25 million + in the future!

Hope not, do not want him, prefer to not sign anyone

Quote from: General on August 30, 2024, 06:02:24 PMAny updates on the potential Reiss Nelson move?

Also, what would people think of a cheeky loan move for Raheem Sterling?

Out of the picture at Chelsea and unlikely to get a game, perhaps his ceiling is higher, but if Arsenal don't come in for him, then signing for us on loan for a season could be a lot better for Chelsea, Raheem and us if he played on loan with us.

Long shot, but worth a punt?

Not the first time someone's mentioned his name but same answer as before. £325k wages, even if Chelsea offer to pay half, he'd be our highest earner and wages I don't think we can justify. PLUS, and the biggest point, is paying 50% of his wages doesn't help Chelsea.

Right now they are paying 100% of his wages, so getting someone to pay half does indeed help them.

It helps them in the slightest. Thats still over £160k a week they'd be needing to pay which is higher than a lot of the players post their wage drops they lost through failure to hit CL last season. It's such a mute point and fanciful that Chelsea and Sterlign are going to go for this in my opinion.

I disagree strongly that it is a moot point. Can't see him coming to us though.

I'll be stunned if Sterling leaves and his wages aren't mostly covered circa 50% at the least. Don;t think Chelsea can afford to allow it to happen.

Quote from: hopper on August 30, 2024, 02:34:36 PMNo rumours for any goalkeepers - bit worried about Steven Benda being backup
I was about to post the same on this thread. If Leno gets injured we are shafted. Benda is a long way from the standard required.  I hope we get someone in with experience as back up, who can play the cup games as well. Benda can go out on loan.

Is Benda any less a PL keeper than Rodak?

Rodak led us to two promotions from the Championship and has 22 caps for a decent NT.

Yes but not proven at PL level.
Rodak was OK but there's a reason he was sidelined on both occasions we were promoted, he wasn't quite at the level a mid table PL team required.

For sure Rodak is a good Championship keeper and has that experience that Benda lacks but he's two years
younger.

I would have been happy for Rodak to stay but he needed to move on and Benda looks his equal at least to me.
So Rodak and Benda have not failed at the PL level ?

I never used the word "failed", Rodak was a decent back up for occasional PL games, but wasn't getting any better.
Benda at 25 still has time to improve and get to a higher level than he is now.

If we are expecting mid table security with ambitions for higher we need a decent back up keeper, IMO Rodak was not that but Benda may be.

I'm sorry - you said not tested - I'm an optimist - so I chose not failed
If I was a pessimist - I would, of course have said, not been a success

At the end of the day it is MS's head on the block.
If he didn't ask for a replacement for Benda he must think that he is at least adequate for the back up roll.
It could be better, but it's not a fantasy:

What exactly is wrong with Almiron? He has scored against us several times if I recall. Some quality finish the last time as well.

Remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
I will be as good as I can be and when I cross the finishing line I will see what it got me

Oh God, Oh No, Oh Yes, Oh he is rubbish, oh we don't want him, how did we miss signing him, oh no, this is a disaster, I bet heads will roll, I bet.......this will go on for a few hours yet.

The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Jay Stansfield talks continue as #BCFC aim to agree record L1 fee after £10m rejected
This might have been overegging a conversation that went:-
Brum - We offer £10m for JS
AM - bugger off

SK recently paid $400m for his new super yacht I doubt that £10m sounds overly impressive to him

Yeah, I'd agree with that. Lots of experience in the PL, Europe though. If it's a matter of no winger or Almiron, I don't think it's a bad shout. We've had history of signing players that don't have great history, but end up coming good under Marco Silva.

We're in the lead [again] for Nuamah though, so who knows.

For what it's worth, I don't dislike him as a player but it's more lack of resale value if we're going to be spending upwards of £12m on him. Feels less exciting than links during the window.
