I agree in principle it's hard for little old fulham to buy better quality players but Brentford and palace and the 3 coming up have and will and I did not know that iwobi was our chief scout he was a bit unlucky with neilson his leg fell off he was valued at 30mil considering he's been injured for 5years a bargain.

Sorry, I don't think it matters these days and is as much of a thing.

We bought Palhinha, arguably one of the best DMs in Europe at the time and when he played for us.

The talent is simply out there and recruitment is the only differentiator.

We bought in ESR who everyone thought was a coup at the time.

We had Berbatov who was sought after.


In my opinion signings will come to clubs for a number of reasons..

The manager - reputation and style
The team- playing with a certain calibre of players, having a position they can make their own.

The club - ambition levels/direction of travel in terms of performances and posituons in the league (I.e. we were close to competing for Europe- if I'm a striker and think I can tip the scales and help the club into Europe, or to win a cup semi final then that's attractive)

Location- simply put that helps. Being in London is a big bonus for us.


We see Huijsen who's just left Bournemouth for Real Madrid, Lacroix who went to Palace, Eze who left our academy to become the player he is now..

All plucked out of relative nowhere to make their mark on the league.

There are more than enough top quality players who are out there and who can improve us as a team without only going for the creme de la creme that all the big clubs want.

Would be pretty underwhelmed with Hamer. Not that he is a terrible player, but I have a hard time seeing him setting the Premier League alight, more of a Steady Eddie like Berge.

We should be aiming to get players who are going to be improvements on what we already have or that have the potential to be rather than bloating the squad with decent players. We have a squad full of players that 'could do a job' for a team but fairly few potential stars. I don't think there are more than 3 players (and King possibly) that would be of interest to any major European team that is trying to compete for titles. If Reed, AP and TC are leaving I can see the argument for Hamer, but I would be pretty underwhelmed.

My only ask this year is that we try to attract more younger players to the club for progression planning, rather than buying players already in their peak. Just to make sure that we have 3-4 players that are top tier that can break into the eleven, once the next round of stars are poached by bigger clubs.

Appreciate that we leave everything to last minute to manage costs etc, but with pre-planning and a strategy players should be looked at well in advance.

We have done well in recent windows, but I'd like us to the cast the net further too - Ex Arsenal/Chelsea players are certainly good enough for mid-table, but getting those are costly. I'm happy if they come in with other younger players as projects.

There's still value to be had out there in the markets, if we do pre-planning. Silva is an excellent coach, so I have 0 fear that he wouldn't bring younger players to their potential.

Hopefully we see a successful window, going to be wild ride! Upcoming window spend + season will determine if Silva will renew IMHO.

Really like Hamer, hard working player, great distribution and would suit that role next to Berge very well in all honesty.

Hasn't had the chance to play in the top flight for a team that dominates the ball more, if so he'd shine.

Only thing for me is that he's 28 this year, and while entering prime years, we would also need another player younger to take his spot in 2-3 years time.

I think it's hard to predict what some players (Hamer) will be like with our team or in the Prem. Silva is adept at getting the most out of players (ESR aside, this season). Hamer could yet be a good signing, he seems like a player that gives his all and the type to rally a team with some fight.

It showed often this last season past that we need good genuine pace in midfield. Lukic probably our quickest around the park of the regular first team. The rest quite slow for this division.

Hamer would be great firstly he is a regular goalscorer ,secondly he is someone that effects every game he plays and very difficult to get him off the ball.

No doubt he's a lovely footballer. When in the prem a few years ago he started brilliantly with a couple of beautiful goals from range and I remember thinking why the hell didn't we sign him. To be fair did have a decent assists total as well.

However...from what I remember he really struggled with the pace and power of the prem and faded quickly after the first month or two.

I read a few days ago on the Sheff United forum and their comments reflected this. Most saying he is overweight and struggles to last more than 70 mins. Many would say on here we have one of those already. At prem level he lacks pace and dynamism that we lack and isn't someone that takes folk on. Also 28 by the time the season starts and sounds like they want £25m for him. Honestly think if we wanted him that much we would have/should have gone for him 2 years ago but as I say from what I remember after being superb in the championship he struggled a bit at prem level. If we could get him at £12m to £15m as an option and then buy another midfielder no issue with that but seems unlikely and nit sure he has enough at this level to take us up a level.

I just had a look at some of his stats, and even when in Prem, he was rated near the top for sprinting presses, something Pereria is often praised for. Different players sure, but we can agree to disagree that he's slow, or overweight. Sheffield forums often said strange things about Berge. Slow, backward passer, hype job. I'd take some of that with a pinch of salt.

Fair enough mate. As I say I do like him as a footballer. Not sure about the Sheffield United forums on Berge. When folk were kicking off about signing him on here when I was pointing out all of the Sheffield United fans and Burnley fans who raved about him so in the main they were incredibly positive. Many do like Hamer as well however but quite a few comments on there about fitness levels that many seemed to agree with.

To be fair if we are going for two midfielders really wouldn't mind him as one of them at say £15 million as definitely gives us something different and did get 4 goals and 7 assists last time up which is decent. Just hope for a slightly bigger signing alongside that. If Reed, Cairney and AP went (seems very possible) surely we would need 2 anyway even if King steps up. If Hamer was one of them at the right price no issues at all.
