That now makes one billion fourteen and a half thousand players,we're rumoured to be after,or offered.🤣🤣🤣
Roll on when the Window Shuts.

This Elliot rumour is a complete fabrication btw. There is zero chance of him joining us. Our 8 we're going for is Zinchenko. King is getting minutes in the 10 with ESR.

Therefore :
Leno // GK backup (championship English backup)

Tete (/Siquet) // castagne
Andersen // Diop
Bassey // Cuenca
Robinson // Bassey // Sess
Berge // Lukic // New Signing
Zinchenko // Lukic // Iwobi // TC
ESR // King // Iwobi // TC
Wilson // Sess // Adama // New Signing
Richarlison // Nelson // ESR
Muniz // Taremi // Raul

I imagine there will be outgoings (Reed captured in the above, as is AP) that will come out of the blue. But this is a strong squad.

Ha, yeah it's absurd isn't it. I think it's always best waiting til hearing noise from someone reliable before getting stuck in.

It's a bit harder to know with local media in different countries.

Football insider is the same website that the other day got Carvalho and Cavaleiro mixed up in an article so it shows how useless they are, and they're carrying the Elliott rumour.

Any person could pluck out a name and pick a club that seems somewhat believable and generate some noise, social media traffic and reaction as there's that much demand.

I still really hope Anderson goes. Not likely that someone buys him I know but really think we need to upgrade on him. He's got no pace at all which is really needed in a back 4.

It would never happen after signing him for that huge fee last year. He was superb when he came in, was poor in the Wolves game and then after injury and then very solid end of the season. Both good periods were when Tete was playing. For me he's much better defensively when Tete is next to him as he gets less isolated one on one so another reason to keep Tete.

We had the third lowest XG against in the league and but for conceding a tonne for long range efforts would have had a superb record.

He does of course offer a huge amount on the ball on top of this. Think we have an excellent squad defensively if we can keep them all together and hopefully Andersen can show the form he did when he first returned when he was in the top 3 for man of the match in most of his first 5 or 6 games from what I remember. His performance against Forrest away was outstanding and he pocketed Haaland away as well. He is a good defender when on form.

"But for conceding a tonne for long range efforts would have had a superb record." Quite a big caveat.

We were 17th in the league for clean sheets last season so something is definitely up. 5 all season, even less than Spurs, West Ham & Wolves. Only bottom 3 were beneath us.

But it's true, something was up. We conceded over 35% of ALL premier league goals from outside the area. When there's 20 teams, that's a big jump on the (what should be) 5% average per team. There's reasons, mainly IMO that Leno had a poor season

The point is surely that is generally more down to a combination of bad luck, midfielders and our goalkeeper as per the whole Leno thread a while back rather than defenders. Also long range shots aren't down to Andersens pace. Third lowest XG in the league is a very good reflection on defenders as means they are giving away very few clear chances near our goal. We were also 11th in the league for actual goals conceded which is a clearer metric than clean sheets for how well a team is defending overall. Tighten up on stopping shots from range and we look good. And before anyone says it mostly not down to Andersen for not blocking shots. 12th in the whole league for defenders for shots blocked. Also 10th for clearances. He's a very good defender as long as you don't leave him exposed one on one and se obviously didn't too often or our clear cut XG against st would be higher.

Just checked blocking stats and Lukic and AP are incredibly low. Berge slightly better. Interestingly Zinchenko the best out of them all (although LB in the main). If we brought him in as an 8 could potentially help our biggest weakness defensively then, especially compared to AP who played 8 the most and is the lowest for blocks.

Clearly the club and Marco are happy with the defence as all priority is focused on midfield and attack assuming Tete stays.

It's definitely true something was up with the long range goals, and don't think it's isolated to one player but the team collectively.

I just don't think we should try and minimise the clean sheet stats and cite goals conceded to mitigate it. It means that in 33/38 games we needed 2 goals to win. That's a big issue, so I think we have to admit that defending collectively is a major problem.

Like many of you I go to most games and defensively we fail the eye test too; you go to every match knowing we're going to concede. Andersen did feel a part of the problem, but not a surprise to hear that on the blocking stats of our midfield. I hope Andersen has a better season next one as he just didn't convince me off the ball, but he continues to look good on the ball. Hopefully a midfield tweak will change a lot.

I think saying 'but for', tries to flatter the fact that it did happen and because of that, the xG against in the league is pretty meaningless.

If Zinchenko (28) and Taremi (32) are our two main first XI signings then the club has learned nothing. 63-year-old Kyle Walker would top it off. Hope those rumours are BS.

Nothing wrong with signings 28 year olds, I think the season we made a no player over 28 rule we went straight back down after spending 110m..

Clean sheets are definitely an issue mate but doesn't mean we have the 17th best defence in the league. Stop this ridiculously high amount of goals we are conceding from outside the box and we'll get quite a few more of course. As you say that's a collective issue and my post was in relation to Andersen specifically. He defo needs a better season next year as he went right off it in the middle this year but his start and end to the season shows he still has plenty good to contribute when on form.

I'm a fan of this one. A really solid keeper, homegrown and will probably be satisfied with limited playing time. Free agent too.

I don't necessarily think we should sign either player - but surely if we sign a 28 year old, 32 old and supplement the squad with Josh King (18), Luc De Fougerolles (19) a returning Reese Nelson (25). Plus, sign 4-5 players that are on average younger than those outgoing (Willian, Reed, Vinicius and potentially Tete and Cairney) - we will still have a younger squad than last season...?

It's a player we hopefully never have to use so don't really want to be spending any budget on a back up goalkeeper. We do however have to have a decent back up 'just in case'. He has a tonne of experience. Seem to remember he was excellent at one point and then seemed to lose it at the end of his stint at Brighton. A long time ago now however and surely you would hope a more reliable option than Benda if the worst happened and Leno was out. Adds nicely to the average age of the squad of course to bump it up a little more so we're all going to be ecstatic about that aren't we.

A couple of the long range goals were ludicrous deflections. 35% of how many goals exactly?

The Man U one from frigging miles out, from a frigging defender, to take away our frigging clean sheet, to win them the frigging game from their one frigging shot on target still haunts my dreams almost every night.  ::cry::  ::cry::  ::cry::

We conceded 54 so at 35% if correct must be 19 goals from range. Mental if true. If we stopped even half of those we would have the joint 4th best goals conceded in the league. Surely something we can improve on next year.
