We conceded 14 according to this: https://en.as.com/resultados/futbol/inglaterra/2024_2025/ranking/equipos/goles-encajados-desde-fuera-del-area/

Worth noting the median is 5!

Also conceded a few in the cup - Wigan and Watford for sure.

Yeah thought I remembered 14. Still ridiculous against an average of 5. Again take 9 off to hit the average and we are right up there for the best defences in the league. Got to improve that next season and surely easier to improve than giving away a load of clear cut chances...just chuck your frigging bodies in front of shots!!

Quote from: SimonDaviesEnjoyer on June 26, 2025, 05:30:35 PMA couple of the long range goals were ludicrous deflections. 35% of how many goals exactly?

The Man U one from frigging miles out, from a frigging defender, to take away our frigging clean sheet, to win them the frigging game from their one frigging shot on target still haunts my dreams almost every night.  ::cry::  ::cry::  ::cry::

We conceded 54 so at 35% if correct must be 19 goals from range. Mental if true. If we stopped even half of those we would have the joint 4th best goals conceded in the league. Surely something we can improve on next year.

I read the stat as we conceded 35% of all the PL goals across all teams from outside the box? My point was that if that number is 35% of 20.. it's not that bad. Need the absolute number rather than the %.

Just saw you posted that it's 14. Yeah not great, but you can't entirely blame the keeper for this. Too much space in front etc etc.

I seem to remember many of those long shots scored against us being deflected, I didn't track how many.  A few were turned backs but others not. Perhaps an element of bad luck involved and definitely tough on Leno.

Fortunately, a few were deflected in at the other end too.

This is the thing. People do not get out to close down quickly enough. That is midfield and defence. When we play teams it is really difficult to get time and space outside the oppo box. Hopefully Silva recognises this and improves us defensively so we are  tighter. We know we will always concede one or two which is not a good place to be. I know this is transfer thread though so I'll shut up now!

Ornstein one of the top tier reporters for Fulham so this likely has substance

younger profile more obscure name may please those questioning our ability to find such signings if it works out. And from a club where he may well be happy to fight his way up from 3rd option in the prem

This is way more like it. Rumoured last week as well but believe Ornstein is the best source.

27 G/A last season. Yes in Turkey but that's hopefully where we have scouted well and feel he can step up. Only 23. Looks pretty smooth and skilful on the ball.

Circa £15m is the right kind of price to bring in as third striker but hope he quickly surpasses Raul. That is succession planning. Potential sell on value as well if successful. Pepi too expensive and would expect to start. Termi is just an old cheap stop gap cover. Really hope this one or something like this one comes off. Age profile might put a smile on a few peoples faces as well!

Quote from: Jules on June 26, 2025, 12:27:52 PMI still really hope Anderson goes. Not likely that someone buys him I know but really think we need to upgrade on him. He's got no pace at all which is really needed in a back 4.
And unforgivably continued to turn his back on shots.

Leeds fans getting excited that Muniz is going there because we are signing a back up striker is amusing me.  ::smile::

Are we sure that Romulo would be happy to come to us to be a back up striker?

TBH the conversation with him will probably be along the lines of; we've signed an unknown Brazilian in Muniz and given him a platform to succeed, come and emulate your compatriot and have a season to get your feet under the table knowing you'll be first or second choice next season when Raul goes, and TBH a ST is the exact role we should be doing that with given the current age profile of the team

The message will be if you are good enough you will start! And if he is he will. Sure they hope will be Muniz and him fighting it out and Raul goes next year. If not Raul is there if needed.

He's got a bit of a Louis Saha vibe, a rough diamond, quick, direct, decent in the air
