Romulo also seems like he would be able to play behind the striker or as a wide forward if needed. So not a pure striker like Muniz and Jimenez.

Also rumoured to replace either Sesko or Gyökeres right now, so there has to be something to him. A lot more interesting than Taremi who mostly seems like a stop gap.

I'm a fan of this one. A really solid keeper, homegrown and will probably be satisfied with limited playing time. Free agent too.

He isn't homegrown. Would take up one of our foreign spots. TBH don't think we are close to reaching home grown limits but never know

Now thats what I'm talking about.

Are we sure that Romulo would be happy to come to us to be a back up striker?

TBH the conversation with him will probably be along the lines of; we've signed an unknown Brazilian in Muniz and given him a platform to succeed, come and emulate your compatriot and have a season to get your feet under the table knowing you'll be first or second choice next season when Raul goes, and TBH a ST is the exact role we should be doing that with given the current age profile of the team

Yup, you'd think we'd be telling him look, it's likely Rauls last season, you'll get chances in the cups to show what you can do and get used to the pace of football here. If you take your chances you'll get  morechances in the league.

Good Portuguese speaking/Brazilian contingent at the club too.

A move to the prem , and London, is a big deal and the money we can offer is likely bigger than alot of clubs competing for him. Fingers crossed

Looks a good prospect.

Nothing wrong with signings 28 year olds, I think the season we made a no player over 28 rule we went straight back down after spending 110m..

And last time we had the oldest squad in the division we also went down, and stayed down for four years such was the reconstruction required

I don't necessarily think we should sign either player - but surely if we sign a 28 year old, 32 old and supplement the squad with Josh King (18), Luc De Fougerolles (19) a returning Reese Nelson (25). Plus, sign 4-5 players that are on average younger than those outgoing (Willian, Reed, Vinicius and potentially Tete and Cairney) - we will still have a younger squad than last season...?

King and Nelson aren't new additions and LDF won't be getting anywhere near the first team yet. So no, signing a couple of players with an average age of 29 won't significantly reduce our age profile, even if we simultaneously offload a few more with an average age around 31. It'll be more of the same, fees and wages on players in decline with no sell-on value.

Romulo on the other hand looks a bit more inspiring

Nice Article on cardoso for anyone interested

Getting really excited about this now. He looks a real talent. Sounds like a tonne of competition however but not necessarily competition we can't beat. Please pull this off Fulham. Would be an amazing start to the window.

Bit like Stansfield never going to Birmingham last summer.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'd be very annoyed if we sold Muniz but I've seen many a player sold over the years to "never say never".

Good point. Played 63 games as a striker and 15 either wing or left or right midfield on Transfrmarket. Watching the vids you could imagine him starting left and drifting in to shoot. Looks pretty quick and a good dribbler as well. Also looks a good passer and has a tonne of assists. If he could do it would make me less nervous about getting Nelson if he could be a good option out there if needed.

Yeah I'm a little anxious Muniz could go if someone has got into his ear. There were reports that he's not for sale today which were encouraging, but clubs often write that when there's demand for a good player and it could help drive his price up.

I'm still a little stuck about the idea of Muniz, Raul and a third striker, would they all make a matchday squad if fully fit? Which surely they'd each expect. If he can play off the wing as Tabby says, that would be ideal.

Know nothing at all about Romulo, but the noises seem encouraging.

You're right, my bad. It's been ages since Brighton got him (and he also had that short stint at Arsenal) that I thought he was in England before the required age for HG status.

Still, I really like this transfer.

End of the day if anyone gets pushed out of the match day squad if we got the Romulu and he turned out to be good enough it will be Raul. Sure he wouldn't be best pleased and I love the guy but end of the day that's football and he's not the future whereas the other two would be. If that happened and he was upset in the harsh world of football he'd be off next year anyway. If however we needed him he'd be desperate to prove a point. The competition for places is always good.

We have to have 3 good options as if one gets injured we have to still have a good option on the bench. The end of the season proved that with Vinicius offering nothing when we desperately needed goals and we suffered and lost points as a result. If we got Romulu and he flies it's a brilliant 3 options to have.  ::thumb::

Very different circumstances, Muniz is our main 1st team striker. Stansfield hadn't even broken into our team yet.
Muniz happily here in London, loved by alot of our fans, established starter at a club competing for top 10/Europe...what possible desire to go to a newly promoted team now?

brum offering 20m+ for our 3rd striker would be like Leeds offering 60m+ out the blue for Muniz. Not impossible if Leeds start getting ridiculous, but let's be real, not happening

Hope you're right, for all my pontificating on the subject, the club will have a plan.

I just don't think Raul will get pushed out though, as it's the biggest seasons of his career coming up - home World Cup in Mexico, he won't agree to a third choice role - and sure if there was any risk of it at all that would have been discussed with Marco.

Let's wait and see what happens.

End of the day he's under contract mate. If he's not in the match day squad not really anything he can do about it. If he's better than the other two he will be. That's football and we don't lose anything with him probably leaving in a year anyway.

Another reason to sign Muniz up now however as if we don't keep him happy next season and he hasn't already signed a new 5 year deal different matter as we risk losing him cheap. Muniz new 5 year deal and Rômulo 5 year deal and he turns out to be quality we're frigging laughing.

Yup
Our strikers will know that well be signing a third striker option. We were never going to go into 2025/26 season without a third option with vini gone and Osmand reportedly on the way out. That's football.

I wouldn't be so sure. I'm ready for whoever comes in to be first choice. No need for dither and delay. If they're good enough, straight in. There's clearly room for improvement IMO

jayffc

Oh to be clear, when I say "a third striker option" I don't mean someone lesser in quality, I mean literally a third person competing for that position. They will have known we were going to want to improve on Vini so naturally will be expecting competition I would think.

Silva tends to operate on a merit based system most (although some might argue perhaps, not all) of the time. If the player comes in in pre-season and is killing it then I'm sure they'll get minutes early, but in reality Muniz/Raul have been playing well enough not to lose their starting slot on day one unless they are completely out of form and our new signing is flying.
