ridiculous.

Football at this level has left him.

Dunno why the club always do this

Disagree. I think he is still prem level. He was never quick or physical anyway. Shouldn't be starting week in week out but a good player to have around for sure.

Mullers OG

Do hope this rumour is correct.

TC is such an important figure at the club as captain and player. He may play less but the ability remains as the Brentford and City games showed.

I will trust Silva's opinion on this one. If he believes TC is still an influential team player that's quite good enough for me.

Perhaps, I've got mixed feelings tbh. Have always been a huge TC fan but I do wonder how much impact he can have next season. It's not the cost of the extension that concerns me, that's minimal, it's the squad place. I just don't know if it's good use of a valuable place?

Brentford away end of the season where he ran the game second half would suggest otherwise. In the right game he can still win us points. Suspect we have significantly reduced his pay hence his hesitation to sign. Having his experience around on a low wage to help the younger players is also an asset. As long as the salary is low no real down sides. Plus if we win a cup he gets to lift it to finish his amazing career with us. Here's praying.

So we've registered a concrete interest but we haven't made contact with Gladbach. Make that make sense?! If we are interested why the hell wouldnt we have contacted them and if we didn't how the hell did we register our interest!

Quote from: Deeping_white on June 30, 2025, 03:37:37 PMWhilst this is good news, I hope the club don't kick the can down the road regarding a new RB because realistically we should be selling Tete within the next year or two and replacing him with a long term option, this just means that this summer we can spend money elsewhere
I agree we shouldn't kick the can down the road, but keeping Kenny was always a no brainer. What we should do is keep Tete and sell Castagne while he still has some value, and bring in a younger RB to develop and compete with Tete.

I'm not sure what kicking the can down the road means in this instance really

All players need replacing eventually, but we're talking about a player who cost us very little. We renewed the contract of a very good RB that we weren't gonna get any money for anyway, and we already have a second RB who's a mainstay for the Belgian national team. At 29 Kenny still potentially has quite a few years left to give and in that time we'll no doubt source another RB to replace him, but we don't need to do it now 🤷. And in that time hopefully we 1. Qualify for Europe or continue to finish in positions that bring in decent revenue 2. Make major profit from a sale like Muniz or another like we did stansfield/Mitro/Palhinha that helps pay for replacing our RBs with good younger ones when we need to.

Think it may make sense if on a deal to have the club captain around.. think this would be his last as a player with us and perhaps his ambition is to retire. Think if he signs a 1 year deal, then perhaps it should also have him down as someone training the U18s or something and moving into more of a coaching role.

MickTheBeard

Loyalty is good especially at a smaller club like ours but at the end of this coming season cairney, the Mexican, triore and wilson if he doesn't agree a new contract plus possibly others and all a year older as well as silva out of contract what not to worry about and not to mention the African nations cup please no more Nigerians etc will be short of players what ever happens we are definitely not planning ahead only for silvas ego.Without trying to use our development teams we aren't capable of buying the amount of players every season required each season,it must be obvious that the boy who's gone to Celtic thought their was no pathway to 1st team not even considering going on loan,ok might not be good enough but their is no game plan and a couple years a very ageing side and we won't be a club young players will won't to com too.

StuinSalop

Cairney plays a key roll around the club but will not be a starter or even in all of the match day squads next season.  His contract needs to reflect that and I expect Tom is exploring what he could earn elsewhere v staying with us.  This would be completely the right thing to do.

I know for a start that Wrexham can't afford his previous wages at Fulham due to PSR.

I to have mixed feelings regarding Tom Cairney, nevertheless on balance I shall be pleased if he stays.
I hope he has a part to play this coming season as his presence on the ball and his quality and first touch and timing is still there, and he is capable of making an impact due to his vision as a playmaker.
He will not lose his pace as he never really had any.
We are not a club that can afford to let his kind of quality go, well not quite yet anyway.
Its not the man in the fight, it's the fight in the man.  🐘

Tom Cairney can stay for another ten years as far as I'm concerned. He is a modern day Fulham legend and even if he doesn't play many minutes he is an important guy to have around in my opinion

People getting their knickers in a twist about keeping him is interesting to read. We will make some signings and he'll likely not play much!

Only two on here have "got their knickers in a twist" as far as I can see. The rest of us were simply debating whether it's the best use of a squad place. Especially if, as you suggest, "he'll likely not play much".

You're allowed 25 squad spots, not counting youth (such as King and De Fougeroles), are you not? I don't see TC taking one of those as being remotely a problem for anything since he is in my opinion still more tahn good enough to play a part. I don't think we even used all spots last year.

Jamie88, Fulham like most clubs, have to manage their finances to the point where if we just ignore it, we will be fined for breaching FSR and even lose points.  Tom is a valuable member of our team but is on high wages.  Fulham have offered him a new contract which reflects his importance to the club, if Tom can earn more for a club who will play him more, then that is his decision to make.  The squad place argument is also a good one.
