I just saw on skysports website that we are closing in on a new contract for Seth Ridgeon. I had a feeling that King signing a new deal would encourage Ridgeon to sign a new deal with us. I would be happy to see him sign even though I haven't seen him play yet - it signals to other academy players there is a path to the first team and you can develop with us. These two deals could probably be the biggest business we do this summer as I think the deals themselves will have a profound impact on future academy talent signing deals with the club.

We could offer him some first team exposure. Initially training.  Doubt he would get that at Man U etc

Why did I forget they had Watkins and Benrahma? That felt so long ago.

Interesting talking about Brentford and brighton the Brentford  chairman worked for the brighton chairman then left and took over Brentford when they packed up their academy and had a b team.We took many of their scholars we still have about aprox 6 or 7 so they scout at level as well they had to start their academy up again the premier league told them too and they have bought a new training ground near their one their using plan to build in aprox 3 years.

I don't want to spam up the thread with more moaning (most will know my opinion on these things) but looking at other clubs' positions today has rattled me, and I do think we have to acknowledge as an objective, factual observation that we're still "going it alone" with a discernably different approach to the likes of Forest, Brentford, Bournemouth and Brighton.

Obviously there's the timing issue (they've all signed 2-6 players by now) but also I think the age gap will continue too - most of their signings have been 21 or younger, not sure we're even being linked with players in that bracket. Again the vast majority have been signed from abroad, whereas we do still seem to be linked with PL/Arsenal names. I'm not seeing any signs that we're going to match their spending (they've already spent £40-70m each) and certainly i don't see us compensating this summer for the much lower spending than theirs in the last few years.

I do think there should be some acceptance that our strategy is more about keeping PL status ticking over from one season to the next, rather than a long-term growth like theirs. If you think that sounds negative then stand behind it and explain why it's better, but I don't think it can reasonably be denied at this point.

Looks like we'll have him for our trip to Portugal all being well.

Obviously we are not Liverpool, but they won the title last year, only signing Chiesa (who barely played a part).

I've shared my thoughts on timing, but I do think we can get a bit lost in a fever dream that transfers define seasons. Sometimes it's player improvement within squads that can really make a difference. It's great we have a relatively settled squad this year.

There's a slight air of caution that we need to show.. all our closest rivals are selling key players, but for significant sums.. it'll improve their coffers a lot, and there's a chance they may start looking at similar players to us, but potentially with bigger budgets..

Let's hope that isn't the case, but let's not get too ahead of ourselves.

Brentford have the additional damage though admittedly of signing an unproven manager with no reputation to replace Frank. There are better clubs to play for in London, and with Marco at the Helm and keeping our squad in tact from last season, I'd say we're definitely one of those.
