Dont think we will be the ones getting him tho, as Muniz is staying (which is the preferred option)

We still need a third striker option and it would be lovely to have some quality options but most likely our 3rd option will either be an older player looking to prolong their career and not expecting to start or a younger player not yet proven. I can see Hojlund him going back to Atalanta assuming we don't sell Muniz to them (which I don't want to happen).

Cannot understand why so many players have not succeeded at United. Are they just not that good or is the dressing room such a toxic environment or is the pressure of the shirt/club expectations too much?

All this Kevin talk!!

Does anyone know what his injury status really is?  Hammy?  Meniscus?  Ingrown toenail?

Did he or has he played any this pre-season?  And if not, and injury riddled, what is expected time in which available for action?

Might also ask all of above regards Nelson too?

Well before the injury he played 3 Europa league qualifying games and scored 4 goals and assisted 2 so competitive games and not a bad record.   ::smile::

No one seems sure on this injury. There was a rumour he was fit this week in which case it wouldn't have been a meniscus but as far as I've seen no one really seems to know. You would have thought it will be weeks rather than months or weeks wouldn't be signing him but who knows.

Nelson played little cameos for Arsenal so is fit and by all accounts was electric with Arsenal fans saying he's their best left winger.

Luka

Buy Terami, sell Jimenez and keep Muniz.
Almost Zero outlay and still an upgrade.

Raul was poor yesterday but still has plenty to offer. He was very good in the international tournament this summer scoring some key goals.

Well worth keeping on for one more year.

SP

I think Raul would be a big loss.

Id be extremely surprised if we spent 30 mil on a striker while Muniz is still at the club. It would make no sense

Also linked to Arikadore, which is interesting given he was rumoured as one we were interested in

Gotta say I don't love how public this "Kevin's agents are coming to long next week" stuff is, feels like the doors being left open for others to gazump"...keeping all fingers crossed and Silvas had a word thats got Kevin excited about our prospects here
Don't quite understand this, I was under the impression that agreement has already been made with Kevin, so why are they meeting his agents, I would have thought any meet would be with Shaktar.

Shakhtar executives are reportedly coming to London as well. Appears it will be a big summit to just go ahead and get it completed.

Quote from: FFC007 on August 17, 2025, 11:33:06 AMAn upgrade on Reed is a must. If Lukic gets injured, and when he probably gets a ban later on in the season for yellow cards accumulating, we need someone who has a bit of bite and steel in there.

We need someone dynamic in the midfield. Neither Lukic nor Berge threaten to run with the ball at pace, or to break into the box or take a shot. It's far too pedestrian and there is more attacking threat from Bassey than either of them. I just watched Diarra from Sunderland and Reinders from Man City really taking the game to the opposition. We are desperate for someone with that energy and dynamism in the centre.

I'm not saying I disagree with you on this, but at least in the case of Berge I think he is probably just playing the role Marco is telling him to play. Berge's long runs carrying the ball forward, even shooting and scoring the odd goal, used to be a big part of his game. With Marco's tactics he is clearly the most defensive minded of our midfielders, and is probably instructed to hold back a bit. Which of course means that anyone else we might get for this role will probably get the same instructions. I might be wrong of course, but I think this is more about Marco's tactics than Berge (and to some extent maybe also Lukic) as a player.

Exactly this. Berge is capable of carrying the ball forward and being progressive - it's more a tactical thing than us not having "8's" capable of doing it. We just don't really play with "8's".

Marco wants our midfielders to sit in as we push our full backs forward as far as possible on both sides to create width, as our "wide" forwards are inverted and cut in. Without the 2 x sitting CMs we'd be carved wide open if the ball gets turned over.

That being said, we definitely need an upgrade in CM and while we don't play tactically with CMs pushing up / making too many forward runs, someone with the ability to do it well and able to read the game to know when they can break forward would be good.

Someone like Elliott Anderson at Forest would be perfect (obviously he wouldn't come here)

I'd basically like a Premier League level Stefan Johansen to pop up with goals, put himself about and add in a sprinkling of sh*thousery

Have to admit I find Lukic is a 5.5-6.5/10 week in week out. 1 goal and 2 assists in 77 games is a criminally beige return for a midfielder in the more attacking role of a 2 man pivot.

Feel upgrading that 8 role (on the assumption we keep Muniz) would do more for this team than even signing a Kevin type winger (and as Brighton showed, we really need that too!).

Think there would be a couple of teams in Mexico that would be happy to take him, but doubt we'd get much of a fee.

You say that but the three players they've actually paid a fee for this summer are lower than our typical bracket

They have the spritely attacking setup of a 32 year old constantly injured Fullkrug and 33 year old constantly injured Wilson. They have to be signing another striker, surely? They no longer have Antonio to fall back on like they used to when all their strikers inevitably flop.

Given our summer of endless wage discussions, especially around older signings, feels unfair to leave out the free signing of Callum Wilson.

No club to club fee but I guarantee there's a big ol' signing bonus and pay day for that injury ravaged 33 year old striker.

On top of Fulkrüg last summer.

Not sure West Ham are as progressive as you're implying.

Fair enough, not denying they're the PL old boys (albeit no worse than us) but in this case wasn't they suggestion that they might give us a decent fee for Raul? Apparently not, I'd say.

The ideal 8 for our system is Bruno G. Obviously that's never happening but that's the profile we need. Combative defensively, covers ground, makes runs into the box, pops up for goals, willing ball carrier.

Douglas Luiz was one who profiled similarly but he's off to Forest. We were interested but didn't want to pay his wages.

Mateus Fernandes is the dream option but he's valued at £60m so that's probably a non starter but he's young and profiles really well. One consideration though would be how soon will Ridgeon be ready. He's gonna be very good so buying a 19 year old may not make sense.

Lukic ideally should just be competing with Berge at the 6 position.

Reed should go to the Championship but it appears he is happy with his role and according to a lot of players is like a coach on the field in training. Plus he's homegrown so if he's happy being the 25th man in the squad then I'm not too bothered by it.

I mean, they have a really, really long history of signing old strikers though....plus, Callum Wilson and were rumoured to be in for Calvert Lewin. Cant really bring myself to be jealous of Westham current squad or spending either to be honest. Upon review, a reserve GK'er and a player they were obligated to buy from last year. Can't really say there's much of a point here Angus other than straws and clutching.
