Quote from: HV71 on August 22, 2025, 02:50:44 PMThis is a damning assessment ( not from a clueless , outsider and fan like me ) but from someone in the club, in the know , who is clearly stating that the targets have been missed and that he is in the dark as to what will happen

This is our manager , for gods sake - a football man whose job is on the line if he gets it wrong. Totally different situation from our DOF whose job will never be on the line and who is interested in money and men in tights

Outrageous

Only as daddy is there as a shield for TK.

This transfer window has been a shambles. We've got league two sides spending more than we have, and don't get me started on a club like Wrexham who've blown money left right and centre.

The whole board needs to go.

"Targets have gone"

"It's our fault, not active at all, we cannot be pleased."

This is worrying stuff. I guess that's it for the first choice signings, and we are now in for second hand goods?

Well, confirmation that we are looking at a CM at least. Otherwise pretty much what was expected.

Also confirmation why this idea that waiting til the end of the window for all of our deals is some clever tactic. I think everyone accepts in some cases we have to do it, but other clubs seem willing to pay an asking price to get a no.1 target in early doors and with a bit of pre-season.

It's dysfunctional and not sustainable, as it's alienated every manager we've had.

We already knew that from last week.

Honestly, I've got real bad Silva to Forest vibes...

Silva and Nuno are friends, doubt he'd follow after Nuno getting mistreated (at least allegedly). The media are tipping Ange to go there.

Wow any signings unveiled to big fanfare in the next 10 days will be completely underwhelming.

If anything positive comes from this disaster of a window it might be to put a rocket up the boards arse for the next one

I hope so, but Silva has already worked with Marinakis (successfully), their relationship was reportedly good and he knows what he's getting himself into. I wouldn't put it past Marinakis to make the move for Silva.

As I say, I hope Ange is the man though!

Is there anyone who thinks Silva will sign a new contract? I wouldnt be suprised if he chose to walk. Bet he is regretting turning down the Saudi offers.

Given all our managers since SK bought the club have complained during every window about the transfer strategy, which manager would want to work under these conditions

Would we take Nuno as boss?

IF Silva goes, I would given the job he did with both Wolves and Forest.

Does this mean Kevin has fallen through? There's been no news in days?

Judging from the press conference, all moves have collapsed.

Could always get Shrek out of retirement as third choice striker!  :slap:

Well this is the first time he's explicity said 'we've missed targets' so that is new. But I've been saying this all summer anyway if we're being pedantic.

Nelson was supposed to have been done weeks ago,I personally believe the club is putting out false info, just to keep the fans interested and hoping we are going after players that we're not really interested in...Joke carry on.

The writing for what's happened this summer has been on the walls for a few years now, as tk became more involved with AEW, our transfer business got repeatedly done later and later, and we sold our best players. Yes we brought in some decent players, but for seasons we were always playing catch up having relied so heavily on loans, now we're reliant on filling the squad out with short term loans for older players, and players running out of contract and ageing, whilst there have been numerous transfer sagas - Kliuvert, Andre, Kevin, Solomon, etc that have come and gone and been drawn out.

All of which should be concerning in isolation, but even more so compounded over multiple windows.

The transfer strategy has been poor for a while now, and I've said it for a number of years.. the buck stops with TK first given his role as DOF. There's a two to three month window where he should be earning his keep and he fails with it constantly.

Kevin was never happening, he was a red herring to force Arsenals hand over Nelson, which never worked. As soon as the Club knew this, they backed off from negotiations with Shakthar, because we don't have 45M to spend.

I think Nelson is a genuine target and on our list but because of injury the club are trying to negotiate the way its been suggested in the press. He could also be the option second to Kevin signing.

Not much looking seemingly likely atm though.

Marco literally had his targets lined up in January, and was told by the board, that every effort would be made to get these in early, that's why he is so pissed off.

Granted, not every target comes off, but what the hell have they been doing all this time, to not even have 2nd or 3rd options through the door.

We've literally got 10 days to go, and all the main targets have been exhausted.

I'll believe it when he or others walk through the door.
Personally think the hierarchy are pulling the wool over our eyes.
Clubs in league 2 being run better.

Quote from: itombomb on August 22, 2025, 12:41:04 AMAnother example of us just being bad at doing business. Could have got at least double that off Marseille last Summer and invested it straight into a younger upgrade in midfield.

I agree with Moussa. Who, exactly, is 'us'? At £20M-plus, I can quite imagine Ali Mac would have been keen to offload. If so, it would mean Marco vetoed the deal. Either the Club gives the manager final say as to whom we buy and sell (which seems to be the preferred choice of the majority of supporters) or it hands the responsibility to someone who is less qualified to determine the role of players within the manager's footballing plans but is better at looking upon them as financial commodities. Whichever it is, hindsight is always likely to show neither one is perfect.
"Us" is the club as a whole.

The club will (or at least should) be utilising its scouting/recruitment network to identify targets the whole time, it should be active around shopping players around at the right times, and have plans in place to move quickly around ingoings and outgoings when necessary (and that includes issues like if someone important suddenly had a major injury). Even if we weren't actively shopping Pereira around, as soon as someone is offering £20m+ for a wasting (not that good) asset, the club should have been collectively moving heaven and earth to immediately investigate deals.

I get completely that Silva appears to have no trust that deals would be done, and if he sanctions a sale he risks the club then failing to get him an adequate replacement, let alone an upgrade.

But that is a huge part of 'US' being bad at doing business. There should be healthy tension between the manager, recruitment teams and DOF to provide checks and balances against poor decisions and ensure you balance both the long and short term. But as it is, its clear the tension isn't operating healthily and hasn't been for years.

The owners don't want Nelson, I've been told that first hand, he's a Marco target, not theirs. Yes, there are big concerns over his fitness, but also his 110K salary a week, that Arsenal want us to fully absorb with an obligation. I can see the concerns, but I can't also work out why they've not been working on an alternative.
