The Athletic quoting an asking price of about £45 million for Mainoo. Would be something to push the boat out for but doubt he'd be interested when there would likely be a handful of champions league clubs interested at that price.

I can understand Marco pushing for X number of new signings, but in my opinion - even if Pereira leaves, we are stacked in midfield. The need to recruit will be next season, when Cairney and Reed will likely be released. Then we can perhaps invest in one big signing and also promote Ridgeon to the first team squad.

In defence we have players who can cover multiple positions across the back four, so I don't think we need more there.

Then we have Sess who can play on either flank anywhere in the defence/attack.

We really only need a winger and cover up front. Personally - rather than spend on 4 players who are unlikely to get much game time collectively, we are better off using the budget on 1-2 players who likely play...

What is not acceptable is leaving any signings until the last minute, especially when there was a 'plan' in place several months ago.

Marco has reiterated they had a plan in May february to get players in early this window and stated the recruitment has been very passive. I take that as meaning not trying hard enough or making enough effort from our end to get deals done.
There, fixed that for ya
"We have to sign players," he said. "We lost two wingers and a striker and the plan we said in May has not happened"

I presume at 50m Euro, that We no longer need to talk about Kevin.

Chukwueze is a good player, but will be off with Iwobi and Bassey for AFCON.

I just don't agree with this. Our midfielders would be ESR/King/Berge/Lukic/Cairney/Reed. Given the likelihood of Berge/Lukic serving multiple bans this season and Cairney's limitations as an 8, I would say we are at the absolute minimum in midfield.

I'm sure Shakhtar have moved the price up here. I've only ever seen max of around €45m get mentioned. Unless the €50m includes add ons.
And the madness continues.

I just hope we do not get dross coming in, when the last minute scramble for players reaches its peak.

Tony Khan needs to give his head a wobble at the poor window so far.

If Samuel Chukweze is coming in, i'd imagine that Traore may be gone. We don't need 3 RW do we?
LW i'd imagine will be filled by Nelson (with Iwobi/Sess).

Just the CM that we need- Mainoo would be impressive but unlikely.

Then again, the 'plan' under our current owners seems to be that the best deals are found on deadline day, or at least very late in the transfer windows. I still don't think we will end this transfer window with just a backup GK.

Even if we do, it still won't be quite as bad as our infamous 2018 summer transfer window which not only got us relegated but left us financially crippled for years.

I still hope and expect us to sign at least two players. My point is simply that signing new players just for the sake of it can be a recipe for disaster. If we can't get any players who will actually strengthen the squad (and ideally the starting 11) there's no point in crippling us financially and limiting our options next year, when the squad will DEFINITELY need a major overhaul.

Noooooo
YEEEESSSSSS! We play well within ourselves under Marco. I feel the entire squad is capable of so much more under a more positive manager, in terms of playing and attitude

Newcastle panic bidding for Strand Larsen at Wolves, £55m rejected which is bonkers given Wolves just paid Celta Vigo £23m for him. I fully expect them to come for Muniz if they don't pull that one off and Wissa doesn't happen.

Noooooo

1. Its footy insider (trash source)
2. Would you go there with all the drama that's seemingly gone on for Nuno? A manager who did brilliantly but has fallen out with sleezeball owner and having transfers outright blocked by a dof against managers will?

Considering Silvas transfer frustration I'm not sure that's a setup he'd be keen to enter.

Dunno if this geeza's reliable but suggesting 25m Euros for Chukwueze (£21.6m)

So waiting this long has led to us overpaying significantly for a player Milan are desperate to sell? 26 years old too, in a position of want rather than need.

I am far from convinced that waiting to the last minute works at all.

So at that price ya gotta assume it's Chuk (rw) and nelson/otele at LW

Shame we got priced out for kevin but hope we can get chuk back to his beastly Villarreal form.

We were in for a loan before reportedly. Perhaps if we aren't spending that on Kevin we're looking to reallocate those funds for perms elsewhere. They weren't desperate to ship him out... But he was available for a move. Its 23m euros reportedly depending where you look...£19m range

That's around what they paid for him, he's not been terrible there, inconsistant and not hit la liga form but not awful either. Look forward to seeing what Marco can do with him
