Am I the only one that thinks defensive cover is needed? Once bassey is at afcon surely we're an injury away from being in the ********, in theory we have diop but he's become somewhat of a forgotten man

IloveFFC

That guy from Boro could be good replacement for Andreas.

My dream is Mainoo. But very tough

Quote from: Angus Telford on August 26, 2025, 09:40:39 PMYou can pretty much dismiss our links with anyone aged 21 or younger. We've only signed one first team player in that age bracket in the last ten years (Muniz).

However if they have a 27 year old brother with triple the salary demands and a recurring injury problem, we're probably in for him.

3 strong links to players 23 and under today, maybe they're reading this forum  ::wink::  ::wink::

I think we have some of the strongest depth at center half in the prem. Diop has been excellent every time he's featured and he can't even get into a match day squad. Don't think anyone would be keen to join us knowing they'd get so little game time.

Nah I don't think so.
Diop and Cuence in reserve. Failing that we can play back 3 with Tete joining 2 of Anderson/Diop/Cuenca.

And worst case we can probably recall Luc DF from his loan.

Shouldn't we already be in trouble with an injury to Andersen if Diop only exists in theory?

Nelson is probably off to Palace

I like Nelson to be honest, think he's a very good player when fit. But this is the biggest indication of traction with Kevin and Chuk as clearly we were Reiss' prefered destination. Club appear to me (pure speculation) to have kept that ticking along in case they fail in their other bids, if we're close to those then it makes sense that talks for Nelson are going on elsewhere.

If we replaced Pereira with Mainoo then that'd be very good business. Age, potential, quality, goals, England international. etc.

Perhaps - let's hope the club are concretely going for the other two and not botching all of the deals in one go.

My marking scheme for this window will be a score of 0-6 based on how many of the following we achieve:

Winger
Winger
Striker
Midfielder
Bonus signing (eg Lecomte)
Lower average age (significantly)

1-2 = dire
3-4 = disappointing
5 = passable, just
6 = good

5 negative options and 1 barely positive one. Feels like you've skewed your scheme slightly.  :)

Strange - everyone was quoting £20m, £15m for his potential vs risk profile when it comes to injuries seems a lot more worth it, he was a livewire when he did play last season for us. Shame we aren't going for it. Strange that we'll pay £20m+ on a winger who's older and with a poor track record, and not £15m for a player we know and who knows the league and has clear potential within the squad but in contributing to goals etc.

Who's that?

SerbianLad

At the respective quoted prices, I'd rather get Nelson than Chukwueze.

I'm agnostic about it. It all hinges on the amount of injuries he'd pick up, we don't want another Kongolo, Nelson last season, Mitroglou, Diarra or Mawson situation.

Palace have a pretty bad track record with Arsenal signings for what it is worth.

Not like you to set the frame for a negative outcome angus😝

The two ends of the spectrum here being "dire" or just at most "good" at the other end 😅...with 5 of the 6 outcomes bordering on sounding negative anyway hehe brilliant

For me it needs a bit more detail than numbers alone as I think we already have a pretty damn good squad numbers wise in most positions. Having kept an already good squad together and signed key youth on...Ultimately it'll boil down to do I think the additional players brought in have the chance to significantly improve our chances of competing in the top half of the table.

I do have my concerns about not aquiring a third choice striker, it's a risk that would put me on alert. If we bring in 2 wingers I wonder if it'll be with a view to seeing Iwobi deployed at the 8 more. Time will tell

Tough market though for strikers so hard to know if anyone we brought in as a third striking option would be better than just giving loupalo-bi who's in very good form more minutes.
