I'd take Nelson for 15, is his wages an issue? I believe he's on over 100k a week

Nelson is probably off to Palace

Strange - everyone was quoting £20m, £15m for his potential vs risk profile when it comes to injuries seems a lot more worth it, he was a livewire when he did play last season for us. Shame we aren't going for it. Strange that we'll pay £20m+ on a winger who's older and with a poor track record, and not £15m for a player we know and who knows the league and has clear potential within the squad but in contributing to goals etc.

Don't think it's that strange given nelson spent half of last season out with injury. I really like neslson btw, but accept why the board might be concerned about his injuries. Id have liked him to return but Kevin is an exciting talent and younger who plays the same side as nelson. (Chuk is RW), so it's more about comparing them than nelson to chukwueze

Also Chuk is only half a year older then reiss. 😅

Why? We could pay £15m for Nelson for his hammy to blow up again in October and before you know it he's missed 20+ games this season. Don't get me wrong I'd have him back, but I wouldn't pay an 8 digit sum for someone that I'm thinking is going to miss on average 30%+ of every season. Chuku was electric for Villareal, okay he's not done great at Milan but they've also been a basket case for a few seasons now so he strikes me as the sort of player that'll thrive in a lower pressure environment, especially since he's going to know Iwobi & Bassey so integration to the squad will be pretty easy

Who's that?

If rumours are true we're about to pay £20m for Chukwueze who in the last two seasons played 50 league games and contributed circa 4.5 g/a a season as a winger and who's 26.

Nelson is a year younger, played 12 games and got 3 g/a for us last season. In fact Nelson got those in 574 mins, so one contribution in just over every 2 games. He played no more than circa 20 mins in 6 games, and 60 mins plus 5 times.

Out of the two of them I'd rather take a punt on Nelson.

Because his output is better than Chukwueze, because we don't know he'll get injured again, because he knows the squad and manager, because he's a cheaper purchase, because he's younger, because he's friends with the squad.. because, because, because..

Quote from: Angus Telford on August 27, 2025, 02:18:45 PMMy marking scheme for this window will be a score of 0-6 based on how many of the following we achieve:

Winger
Winger
Striker
Midfielder
Bonus signing (eg Lecomte)
Lower average age (significantly)

1-2 = dire
3-4 = disappointing
5 = passable, just
6 = good

5 negative options and 1 barely positive one. Feels like you've skewed your scheme slightly.  :)

No one should be getting massive accolades for signing four players and lowering the age of the oldest squad in the league. It's hardly asking the earth. The fact is we just came into the window with very modest expectations. I could add items 7-10 for a transformative window with seven or eight great young players coming in, but that's not going to happen.

Yep, not surprised - been saying for a while it's had a whiff of Hudson Odoi. Will be interesting to see how he does at Palace. Hopefully we won't be kicking ourselves!

If we can get these three in then it would have been a decent window, albeit terribly frustrating for the majority of it for our fans!

That depends on if we are fine with a player that is fit 6-8 games per season.

He also scored 8 and got 6 assists for Milan in two seasons (might as well include cups since you included a goal against Preston for Nelson) that ads up to 6 per season or roughly 3 per 600 minutes. That isn't brilliant but it is the same numbers you're quoting as good for Nelson.

At the quoted prices, yes I agree.

Chukwueze was superb at Villareal, but pretty poor at Milan. He's a bit older too(not by much though, admittedly). Nelson also already spent the season with us and he'll need no time at all to adapt to our style. Also Chukwueze will be off to AFCON same as Iwobi, which would significantly affect our options on the wing during that period. Nelson would stay here.

Guys, how many you think that we will spend in this window?

Kevin and Chuck both will be around 65M. Maybe one CM around 20/25 million pounds? 85M or 90M i think that could be possible.

Quote from: spoonffc on August 27, 2025, 02:09:23 PMAm I the only one that thinks defensive cover is needed? Once bassey is at afcon surely we're an injury away from being in the ********, in theory we have diop but he's become somewhat of a forgotten man
We have Cuenca too.

I think CM will be Mainoo on loan. So 65 mil maybe for the wingers

Palace in talks to sign Nelson on a permanent deal according to Sky..

Worth mentioning that Chukwueze is 6 and a half months older than Nelson. The obsession with age these days has got utterly ludicrous.

That said if I had to choose between the two there's not much in it, advantage of Nelson is that no AFCON and he looked really good at times when he played for us. Big question is if he can finally keep fit. Wonder if Palace will be paying the reported £100k wages that he's on at Arsenal.

His injury history for the last six seasons, in terms of total games missed:

24/25: 27
22/23: 17
21/22: 12
20/21: 16
19/20: 20

You could deploy wishful thinking and assume he won't get injured again which would defy logic, but in every season where he's actually played games, he's ended up with a moderately severe injury every time

I Think United will not allow only a loan deal. Probably they will request a obligation to buy. The price that i see today was 40M pounds
