Quote from: Lighthouse on August 29, 2025, 09:47:25 AMOh it's all too late now anyway. We seem to be selling more than signing.

Wait is that definite? So we have signed.....

No we haven't

Oh hang on we could could sign both of them and....

No we couldn't and haven't.

By Monday evening our squad of 15 players will be strengthened by a loan signing of a 42 year old winger who has been here before. Oh calamity.

Its gonna be ok.
Stay away from ledges till then
Don't worry he's a Lighthouse. he's our shining light in this forest of doom. Don't panic Mr. Bog all will be well.

Sounds like chuk is all but signed at this poiint, expecting movement after their game tonight. So maybe he's first in the door tomorrow.

Either way, what will be will be. Plenty times we've made multiple signings in last few days. This one will have to be no different

But this isn't "no different". In past seasons we have made some last minute signings but have already got a few through the door (lateish perhaps but not last minute). This time we haven't signed one single outfield player, so all our signings will be last minute. That is definitely different.
Not saying we might not come up trumps but I cannot recall ever seeing such brinkmanship from our club before.

Don't think anyone would want to 'come up Trumps'

Why did you "" quote something I didn't say? I didn't say it was "no different?"

I've made this point before recently, this season has transpired absolutely as later business than usual. But it's also the best squad we've gone into the summer with so assume that's their rationale here (wether id prefer it ideally earlier or not). Don't think we've ever had a settled squad this good without any major outgoings in recent history. Our team is already proving its competitive in the first 3 games.

My point was purely that we have made significant numbers of signings before late in the window (wether there's usuallly been more before them or not). We don't need a ton of signings we just need quality additions.

Chuk (seems basically done)
Kevin/sterling/nelson (we've had plenty enough conversations it seems prior to complete one of these)
A CM
+ Maybe a striking option (although sterling has played plenty of football at CF so it may be if we opt for him that's seen as covering us in two spots.

SuffolkWhite

I do have a feeling we end up with Sterling but beyond that, I have no clue!

If that's the worst option outcome, I wouldn't be mad tbh, happy to see how it transpires given what we saw from Willian when he was written off as "washed" at a significantly older age. Yes he's on the older side at 30, but as mentioned would provide not just wing cover but could compete at CF too.

That said chuk seems most likely from all reports. So probs him first then well see what transpires

i think we will get Chuk and Kevin and there will also be a surprise addition out of nowhere. i hope we don't get Raheem.

There will need to be cos we're not currently linked to any/many CMs 😅 ...and then there's the matter of CF, which is where I think Raheem wouldn't be a terrible shout tbh given his record snd versatility.

Most deadline day signings we make seem to be players not previously linked. I'm just hoping we do get a good surprise or more. Will be disappointing to miss out on Kevin though if he does indeed turn out to be the next superstar.

With spurs signing Xavi Simons from Leipzig, it's meant that they've contacted Liverpool for signing Elliot, which is good news for us with the sell on fee that gives us more money to spend

I Ronic

I know this has been mentioned before but seeing as almost every other post is a "We haven't signed any out field players". Can I just say we resigned Kenny who was wanted by Everton. So far we've hung onto Rodrigo and Josh King has made a seamless transition into the team (not just the bench).
We don't know who or what the club has been up to. They could have been sitting on their hands or chasing players 24/7.
I hope we get a couple of players in before the window closes but someone whose going to add something not just bench warmer.

Yes but you also need to consider we've lost three outfield players since last season (Nelson, Willian, Vinicius) so it's a net negative. Plus Godo and Pereira are supposedly on the way out.

We didn't lose Willian AND Nelson

Willian joined AFTER nelson was ruled out for the season as his replacement. There were never in the team together

Were third striker and backup winger down on end of last year.
Were likely about sell our back up back up winger and back up CM...presumably because we're confident of other signings

Now is time to upgrade

Fair point, but the point still stands that we have fewer outfield players right now than we did last season, and as you say we need to upgrade.

Not having signed anyone except a 34-year-old backup keeper as at 29 August is definitely a first. I take the point, and agree, that this was probably one of the best squads we've ever had at the start of the window, but nonetheless, this is our most passive window since the 1990s if not going even further back.

And if our only further business is Chukwueze and a mediocre loanee to replace Perreira (which is all I reckon we'll get) it'll have to go down as our worst window since 2012.

Think Kevin is the only realistic way we might salvage some positivity.

Yeh if it's just a winger and a CM then, depending on what impact they make, it could well end up a poor window. Contract extensions have gone well, keeping team together gone well, but now we gotta make those key upgrades.

I suspect we'll get 3 more in the door personally with one of the wide players being capable of playing through the middle but will see Monday before I get stuck into evaluating it all too much.

TBF it's your positivity that has made this transfer window a little brighter ...

I tend to agree - 3 in (at a push).  Unless we do sell Godo (and Traore), I would be surprised if we get more than one winger in. My preference is Kevin, but Chukwueze looks far more likely at this stage. With just over three days left, the club have left it way too late to get any more than 3 players in - most likely at least one will be a loan and probably deal sheets involved!
