Quote from: SerbianLad on January 19, 2026, 12:24:00 PMIt increasingly looks like it will be deadline day signings again, which is a shame, as Marco always says he wants early signings. I do appreciate that signing players isn't easy.
Certainly looking that way. The weekend we play Man Utd likely to see us linked with The World and their Wives?

Sky sports reporting we're still in talks for Atta (Udinese midfielder) and optimistic of signing Pepi despite his injury

So he's good to very good when he's not injured. He was back scoring again before this freak accident to his arm which had nothing to do with those previous injuries also tbf.

It's 26m allegedly (30 is the euros amount), could well be thats inclusive of add ons but who knows. I agree it's a big roll of the dice but if the clubs adamant and unanimous on him as a target and getting him in now, which appears they are, then we'll just have to see how it pans out.

True, and he tends to be quite unfair on players if they aren't or never have been Feyenoord players.

That's the midfielder link I like more than any other we've had. He seems to be the exact profile of player we need. With Lukic now out for potentially a long time, it will be even more important to get a midfielder in asap.

As much as we'd love to have a 20-25 goal a season striker, realistically we are hoping for a 10-13 goal striker which will replace what we have. I'm not qualified to comment on whether Pepi could be that guy, but the club will have a fair idea of what he might be capable of. I suspect they're hoping for another Dempsey that will blossom gradually.

You're not spending ~30M on a 23 yr old with the expectation that he'll "blossom gradually" (as I'd agree Dempsey did).

Sure there will be signings and get Marco to sign as think that's the plan from SK.
Any striker you sign it's a Gamble.

again what's reported is 26m ...
But Why not? He's still only 23. clubs pay a premium for potential, We signed the young kevin too presumably assuming he'd develop and knowing he'd have to adjust to the league, whilst of course hoping he can also contribute something now too given his champs league showings. Both things can be true.

I'm sure we hope he can make an impact of some kind but it won't just be about this season as it's likely he's deemed the long term replacement for Raul. But with Muniz returning next month and with Raul and JKA currently here the pressure won't be so heavy on Pepi initially - whos probably out for the next month or so at least anyway.

ffcthereligion

I personally don't expect any permanent signings. Maybe a loan on deadline day

I disagree. This is the market for players that have played in the Champions League and scored, but aren't the finished article. Players that are the finished article and score regular goals go for £60m plus.

Note the use of he ~ symbol (and I expect we'll have to increase the offer a bit to get it over the line).

I don't disagree with any of this. I was responding to someone comparing the potential signing of Pepi to that of Clint Dempsey. It took 4 seasons for Clint to score double digits for Fulham. At the price we'd be paying for Pepi the club would expect him to "blossom" a lot more rapidly than Clint did.

What happened to the links to Gabriel Sara? That's the only link so far that has made me sit up and take notice, it's all gone very quiet with him.

Agreed and there's a few good similar examples- Schade at Brentford scored twice in his first 29 appearances for the club, then 18 in the next 63 games. There are good value players out there (Brobbey at Sunderland) who are perhaps more ready to go?

Rambler

I'm really not sure about Pepi, 26 mil is a lot for not a prolific goal scorer from the Dutch league.

I hope the owners aren't obsessed with him because of the fact he is American.

Even if for some reason they did like the fact he's american rather than his impressive goals per 90 record and champs league experience. All transfers ultimately Silva has the final sign off on. So if we get him, it's cos Marcos happy with the target.

Seems like he's on the backburner again as far as we're concerned. Smells of being an option should others not be possible this january, or only if Adama gets a move. guess well find out in a week and a half.

Still in talks 😂😂 same crap every window Lukic  is injured in silva's words could be a long one ESR injured .
Get 3 players through the door  Midfield, centre forward and a player that can cover AM , LW. , RW
