3days to go and the fact we've been linked heavily throughout Jan means convos have at least taken place. We have a history of pulling out a couple late ones and I doubt signing Pepi is distracting us from buying a CM any more than it distracted us from signing Bobb.

Reportedly were likely a decision and an email away from signing off on Pepi. Think it likely were negotiating hard/possibly waiting for settlement of champs league rounds/possibly waiting for teams to sign replacements.

Would absolutely be my one slight concern if we didn't get a CM, more so in terms of Marco, but we are where we are without one and Iwobi returning from afcon + bobb maybe we could be considering at the 8 too. Who knows

Couple days till it'll all come out in the wash. Fingers crossed
My point is, I think a new cm should have been an absolute priority. I'd rather we kept Adama and not got Bobb, but got a cm, than the other way around. I think we absolutely need a cm, I don't think we absolutely need anyone in any other position.

I would say we really need a good creative CM, partly because its the right thing, part to avoid this double DM, and reverting to an even more creativity stifling back 5.

I would also say we need a striker as well, Rual is a work horse but not many goals in him, Muniz is injury prone. Given we ideally need to say bye to Raul come end of season, a striker is also a must, particually if we also plan to let our main goal scorer go in Wilson.

So basically what I am saying is we need both a CM and Striker now, particually if we want to push for Europe

He's a neat and tidy player for sure. Not sure if he's physical enough, bit of a Seri type.

This for me, sadly as he is a really good player. Just think the way the PL is going with an increasing slant towards set plays and teams going more direct again we need a progressive cm but also with some height and physicality.

I don't think another cm is coming in until the summer.

That would be a shame, potentially costing us a Euro spot, I really think we the right Cm, we are destined for top 8 and of course a Euro spot depending on how many spots on offer this time

Does feel like a real weak spot in the window again if we don't get a CM even as cover. Especially now Lukic is out. Needing more minutes from the likes of Reed and Cairney isn't going to elevate us to European positions.

got a feeling we get a CM on deadline day . a cheeky one out of nowhere

Strand Larsen is off to Palace for £45m apparently.

I just don't get why clubs are so willing to pay so much for this guy. I must be missing something.

1 goal in 21 btw.
Appreciate that he's scored a decent amount last year but I must be missing something too as never blown away by him

50m for Strand Larsen is a bit rich for my blood. He may turn out to be worth it, but it's an expensive gamble for Palace. They could be in real trouble before long.

FFC1987

On Strand Larson, I just don't get it. Those sums feel incredibly inflated form the player I've watched a few times now.

SimonDaviesEnjoyer

He reminds me a little bit of Mitrovic, dare I say it, but the 50m we got for him made more sense when the buyer had money to burn.

Palace are spending like drunken sailors, but have lost the spine of their team, are about to lose their manager, and haven't won in 12 games or something. There is no guarantee they'll stay clear of the dogfight.

Mitrovic was significantly better than him. The margin is huge actually.

How old is he? Seems desperate unless young and potential orientated. I'd be going against it if it were Fulham

They are falling into a relegation battle and if they lose Mateta are going to have a striker problem too.

50 million is certainly overpaying, but if he scores goals which keep them up it'll be well spent.

1 goal in 21 won't keep them up .... he would need a transformation of the 'Wilson' kind...
Bobb looks even more of a bargain.

Other fans will be saying the same to us about Kevin, I guess it depends on what potential they see

Ay but he was 22, 15m less than this, and at the time was tearing up the domestic and Champions League for Shaktar.
Strand is 25 and currently over halfway into a season having scored 1 goal from a penalty. That's heady numbers.

He may well get back to his previous form but still that's very steep. They're just having to pay it because Mateta is forcing a move out so they're basically going like for like in fees for similar style players

As for the CM positions above, inclined to agree that I would love to find a top 8 just for the added security if anything. But would point out that we are in 7th despite not having another CM currently - and thats with Iwobi away for months on end - and we do also have Iwobi and TC for the 8 already. Bringing in an Atta or Sara may would possibly mean we see Iwobi on the bench, who's been one of our best players in recent years and more or less an ever present starter for a reason. No complaints about amazing competition of course, I'd love it - but it doesnt necessarily mean a European push is massively unlikely without it.
Also yet to be seen if Bobb appears in the middle.

Anyway, not to say I wouldn't like an 8, I would.  Albeit one of the main reasons would be just to keep Marco from throwing a wobbly 😅
