Well if he does sign a 3 year deal I just hope to god he gets more control over all aspects of transfers and a decent budget. If not, it will be very much as we are and no or little improvement.

My concern is that Marco has been very heavily involved in players coming in and they are taking a long time to show the faith.

We can't walk the ball into the net with sideways backwards Parker esk football, which I fear has happened. We also need  grit throughout the team mixed with risk takers imo.

Marco has clearly had a say in many transfers, his and Fulhams general scouting has been very poor

More than anything we need actual leaders on the pitch and a creative force in the middle imo, of which we have none as of now. Who do we have that takes risks every now and then, who is vocal and takes responsibility to spur everyone on when needed? I can think of no one. Iwobi for the former, at times. And that's about it. Regarding risk taking i do find it curious that players like Kevin, Chukwueze, ESR, they all seemed much more willing to do so in early appearances. Which leads me to believe that it has been couched out of them all. "Discipline first" seems to be the mantra, and i don't know what player will get the opportunity to blossom with that approach regardless of who we invest in.

Quote from: Whitestone on May 19, 2026, 03:18:32 PMThis needs to be resolved asap because it's undoubtedly had a negative effect this season.

I just don't buy this position.  Whether or not current coach is going to leave has no impact on how well the lads play.  These are professional athletes, and when they lace up their boots they are going out to score goals and win games.

If you want to talk about negative effect, you can look at 'style' of play and/or game plans that MS has instructed.  That can be debated and critiqued.  But just because a coach may or may not leave shouldn't influence the players performance.

Not necessarily. Did you not see the immediate few games after Palace's manager announced he was leaving? Lose 3, win 1 and draw 1 and one of those losses was against no-hope Burnley.

Meh...I still stand by my thoughts on this.  Besides, Palace and MS situations are different and not necessarily comparable.  Palace coach announced leaving.  MS hasn't announced anything.  Still stand by my position.

Going off of his interview after Wolves, I feel he is going to stay. He speaks about the future and how important it is. I think he has used this to get certain changes behind the scenes, less control from TK/new DOF maybe?

Its quite clear that the board see him as indispensable and he knows this. Major a leverage tactic from himself, albeit this has generated a lot of annoyance and anger with fans.

I'm quite certain he now stays, hopefully with more control of transfers and a better on field performance...

Personally think it's the better of all the scenarios if he does sign on the basis he knows what is required. Don't get me wrong performances have dropped off on the field and he has looked drained recently but he was telling us months ago about assurances going forward need to be met and if they have only been guaranteed recently then he must of had it in the back of his mind that he could not take the club further than he has. His given the club a lot of stability since he came here no doubt been rewarded handsomely but better the devil you know!

Hmm, I get what you're saying, but I'd challenge it with the following..

When he is backed, he is often also undermined at the same time.

We sorted out our defence, but then didn't get a proper cm.. when we had a proper CM in Palhinha we sold him.

When we had a good attack but needed a stronger defence, we got the defence in but then sold Mitro.

We've all known since last summer that our squad was short, and we needed depth and also key contracts sorted as well as at the very least a winger, another striker and a goalscoring CM (a la Mctominay and Pepi).

We've been in the running, had talks with the right players and yet don't get them in on time, then we end up losing momentum.

Kevin came in and people were complaining about him, but then he started producing some great performances before getting injured.

What we need under Marco is a full strength squad, with quality throughout, not compromising the quality by doing half the job.

We need that natural and instinctive striker, and not at the end of the summer, but at the beginning of it.

We need contracted players tied down earlier, and not leaving their contracts to run down.

There are so many clear issues with our recruitment and squad building that ultimately land at the directors and owners level that if addressed will genuinely give us a great shot.

But we can't keep messing around. We need more conviction in our plan and getting it done earlier to give us the best possible chance of success

Personally I think he has run out of ideas. The last two seasons finished in March with defeats in the FA Cup. When we really should have been well in contention for Europe we fell away. He has bought players he wanted but seemingly can't get them to play with any intent. As said above we need more conviction in our plan which we don't have because not even Silva knows what he is doing.

The following is a quote from Pep Guardiola today, "from my experience when the boss or manager is anticipating he is leaving - the players don't follow you any more".

I'd really be surprised if he stayed. Interviews, body language, enthusiasm vs. earlier in the season, belief from the players etc.

I'd put the chances at 20% not 60%.

He wanted Cherki, he got Chuckie. We don't have the finances within the law and our recruitment is good not great.

Can't see it happening, unless he's got nothing elsewhere after all.

They knew he was leaving, that is what he is going to say, and any ambiguity amplifies that if MS is an example.

Cherki didn't want to come here.

Lol there's no way Marco can blame the club for not getting Cherki. The man went to one of the biggest clubs in the world and just recently won the FA cup.

Like Iraola then?

If he decides to stay because he gets the kind of commitments he wants I say God help us!

The money spent so far brings no real improvement, the tactics don't work and he clearly isn't inspiring the players to perform with the same energy as Brentford, B'mouth & BHA to name a few.

Football's a funny old game and everything could click into place next season but if there is no change in the coaching it could get very painful.

Bassey the warrior

Whoever is managing the side next season needs to adapt our tactics, committing to more fast breaks. We play good football at times but we've become too cautious in possession, afraid to take chances for fear of turning over possession. Berge is particularly guilty of this but he's shown he has the killer ball in his locker.

Rambler

Marco is only staying because he's not found a better job. I think it's been pretty clear on his interviews that he doesn't really want to stay and I think this has filtered down to the team over the past few months.

In a worst case scenario - he stays; the team continues to play poorly next year and the fans turn and he gets sacked mid way through the year. On an 8 mil 3 yr contract this could be a 24 mil payout which will seriously affect our squad cost rules/profit sustainability outlook.

I agree with this.

His ideas have gotten stale and the squad needs a fresh voice.

Bar the Burnley game, we've scored twice in the last 10 games with one of those being a penalty.

That form is relegation form, no question.

The repetitive tail off of the performances after we've hit 40 points is a concern.

So he didn't run out of ideas up until March, but then did? It doesn't make sense at all.
Personally I think a lot of players have underperformed this year:

Bassey cost us a few games earlier in the season (Newcastle away for example)
Andersen hasn't been great
Robinson injured
Muniz looks a shadow of the player he was
Tete injured
Leno very poor bar one save v Brentford
ESR just not able to dictate games
Kevin injured
Chuk personal issues
Lukic got injured when he was playing well

Only ones who have been decent is Raul and Wilson, perhaps Sess too. That's not enough and you could argue it's not exactly Silva's fault.

Bronaldinho

I understand you have to have one eye on the exit door if the right opportunity comes knocking, but at the same time, he will moan when players do the same. If you want to build something, have to lead by example. With all the job role flirting being public and indecision it hasn't helped the cause. Something that should be positive is a bit tarnished given the instability.
