I'd put the chances at 20% not 60%.

He wanted Cherki, he got Chuckie. We don't have the finances within the law and our recruitment is good not great.

Can't see it happening, unless he's got nothing elsewhere after all.

Cherki didn't want to come here.

The point is if MS wants or needs that kind of player to take us to the next level and we can't get him then it seems more likely MS moves on.

What logic is that? Cherki is a world beater who could play in any team in the world. Even before joining City, he was fast becoming a world beater. That's like saying "I want Messi, if we don't manage to get him I'm leaving!" There's players who can take us to the next level and then there's world beaters like Cherki.

Quote from: cookieg on May 19, 2026, 07:29:58 PMPersonally I think he has run out of ideas. The last two seasons finished in March with defeats in the FA Cup. When we really should have been well in contention for Europe we fell away. He has bought players he wanted but seemingly can't get them to play with any intent. As said above we need more conviction in our plan which we don't have because not even Silva knows what he is doing.

So he didn't run out of ideas up until March, but then did? It doesn't make sense at all.
Personally I think a lot of players have underperformed this year:

Bassey cost us a few games earlier in the season (Newcastle away for example)
Andersen hasn't been great
Robinson injured
Muniz looks a shadow of the player he was
Tete injured
Leno very poor bar one save v Brentford
ESR just not able to dictate games
Kevin injured
Chuk personal issues
Lukic got injured when he was playing well

Only ones who have been decent is Raul and Wilson, perhaps Sess too. That's not enough and you could argue it's not exactly Silva's fault.

So why is it that when we get to 40 points we really don't push on? On another thread someone put together the stats of our performances when we get to safety and there is a pattern. Silva plays the same players again and again maybe it's fatigue that sets in both mentally and physically when we reach safety. Silva is too stubborn to rest players but whatever it is we have missed great opportunities for the last two seasons of playing at Wembley and getting into Europe.

Quote from: Whitestone on May 19, 2026, 03:18:32 PMThis needs to be resolved asap because it's undoubtedly had a negative effect this season.

I just don't buy this position.  Whether or not current coach is going to leave has no impact on how well the lads play.  These are professional athletes, and when they lace up their boots they are going out to score goals and win games.

If you want to talk about negative effect, you can look at 'style' of play and/or game plans that MS has instructed.  That can be debated and critiqued.  But just because a coach may or may not leave shouldn't influence the players performance.

The following is a quote from Pep Guardiola today, "from my experience when the boss or manager is anticipating he is leaving - the players don't follow you any more".

Well, as pointed out by others in this thread, not 100% accurate.  His is only one viewpoint.  Besides, why should some sideline constantly spitting chumps' opinion be any more valid than mine?

Probably because he's the best manager in the world. I appreciate it's an assumption on my part but I suspect he's more qualified than you.

Ha, your assumption is true my friend.  He's still a sideline spitting slob/chump......

It cannot be fatigue as half of them hardly ever play a full game.
When they do it's walking football on a carpet of a pitch. They also don't have the extra pressure of playing in Europe like other teams.

Man City were league 1 with us in recent history and couldn't attact those kind of players, things move on, Fulham equally need to move on and have some ambition.

If this really is happening the most telling thing to me is how it all got done within a week or so, apparently. Meanwhile, Marco and his agents must have been in discussion with the club about new contract for MONTHS, at the very least? So, either our contract negotiations are ridiculously bad, or, Marco just stalled and stalled in hopes for a better offer from somewhere else all along.

Which makes it even more of a conundrum. I'll have a P please Woolly.

This whole situation has annoyed me since the Saudi Arabia offer a few years back. MS always seems to be on the verge of leaving and putting us in a state of limbo until he decides.

Part of me...would love the Khans to publicly announce they have withdrawn the offer of an extension, Silva's services are no longer required and our new manager is announced. That's what he deserves for messing us about.

Part of me...thinks don't be so stupid. Even if MS is a prima donna with all the is he staying/ is he going drama continually in the background, compare where we are now to where we have been and could be if his replacement is a flop. We could so so easily get relegated next year and struggle to come back up or worse.

MS is not Ferguson or Guardiola, that's for sure. But, we are not Man U or Barca and our players are not Brazil 1970. It was a good fit. He's a good manager at a good club who has gotten a good yield of points in the circumstances. But I get the feeling he has itchy feet and has lost passion for the club so it's probably best for him and us that we part company.

Whilst I don't think the owners prioritise Fulham amongst their other investments, I do think they are proud people and will be incensed by the uncertainty (of course, subject to something we don't know about happening behind the scenes) and I do think at some point they will have had enough of him and make a change. Hopefully, as others have said, they have been talking to potential candidates for a long time and have something sorted out already.

The one thing that gives me hope is that although the Khans are notoriously late at signing new players every year, I recall that the announcement of MS happened very quickly after Parker went. Let's hope they already have a contingency plan in place.

hovewhite

Hope club as nnounce his departure before Sunday's game and get another coach to pick the side, more so now having renewed for next season(stupid move amongst no positive posts)

ArcticOctopus

Man, stringing us along until the end. It seems obvious he doesn't want to be here anymore I don't know why the club won't just cut ties. Make the announcement now that the club is looking in a different direction, give him the Newcastle game as a farewell, and move on.

Marco is good but he's not Pep good, don't why we're acting like he is.

roberto w6

and/or owners being shrewd not telling us that he's off and they have no clue who is replacing him after their 5th June deadline for renewing season tickets has passed...

Deeping_white

Obviously there's the stay/go scenario with Benfica & signing a new deal here, but for me there are some unanswered questions about this supposed renewal with associated promises:

The crux of Marco's issue seems to be the speed at which we sign players. I don't disagree for one minute that we could do things quicker, however we do as a medium sized PL club with moderate revenue have to be conscious of the sums we pay for players, because overpaying on 1/2 players could mean we can't afford a third. If Marco gets more control over transfers, then who actually agrees to sign the player he wants because I'm sure we'll still have a financial element of trying to get value for money and whether they'll be a re-sale asset or not. Marco's historic preference of signing PL experienced players mean they come with inflated salaries and no re-sale potential, so a couple of years of him signing that sort of player for big money and then leaving will be a bit of a financial armogeddon for us.

Then there's the fact that his £8m salary would put him confortably in the top 4/5 earners in the league. No offence to Marco because he's been pretty good for us, but if he's getting that sort of salary I would expect European football and trophies. This is all before you consider the fact that he appears to struggle when given a larger squad because his squad selections when all our players are available are sometimes mind-boggling, and the fact that we implode for the last 30% of each season. Give him the keys to the castle sure, but I don't think increased control over transfers solves those two issues.

If I'm SK, I'm only giving him that contract on the explicit understanding that if we don't make the top half next season and have qualified for Europe within the next two seasons, he's up for being sacked due to underperforming because he'd have more control and a bigger salary than every other mid-table manager. For the club he probably guarantees mid table mediocrity, and perhaps this is a good exercise to validate how good of a manager he really is or isn't.

Andrew

In the BBC interview after the Wolves gamne it was clear Marco wants to stay.

He said next season is a potentially big season but we need to make some decisons between him and the board.

Negotiations are two to tango.

I do not know what is going on but he surely doesn't sound like a man that wants to leave. However he may not have an option if the board to not back him properly which seems unlikely IMO.

Was it?

"I have not decided"

"Myself and the club cannot communicate something when the decision is not made."

"We are going to have meetings, I am going to analyse"

"I believe there are many things to analyse and you need to be calm in this moment to address many, many things."

Doesn't sound to me like he's that keen to stay. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cewp4zj5k9qo
