Who do you want to replace Silva?

Still think of all the managers linked or were linked Pochettino looks not only the most solid choice but possibly the better choice. Take in his experience of this league and his style of football personally think it's a win win situation. Now his status as a manager is relatively high so would he come to a team of our size? Could we convince him to come here? Would he work under the current recruitment framework? Few hurdles to jump you would imagine.

SimonDaviesEnjoyer

Yeah I'd say Poch is still my favourite.

Sky saying we've talked to him, same as Slot, load of nonsense.
Think them and Talksport just make up things to talk about.

@jolslover

Ornstein reporting Arbeloa and he is about as concrete as it gets on Fulham.

I think it would be a great appointment. Only an elite coach could reach Real Madrid manager position so he's definitely highly rated and he's worked with some of the best managers in the world. This is an ambitious appointment that would inspire me and would definitely attract players that would take us to the next level.

His knowledge and reputation in Spanish football would make us an attractive destination for anyone coming from La Liga and although it didn't quite work out at Madrid I remember being very impressed when they thrashed City under him this season

For me the replacement is like the drama about Silva leaving it's now got boring.

Not everyone is going to agree on who the replacement should be

McKenna not good enough to inexperienced for some
Arbeloa not experienced enough as well
Poch seems to be popular but am sure it's been said somewhere he didn't play Sess
Lampard no for most due to Chelsea
Amorim no for some due to his record at United

And so on, we want someone with a little more experience than some, who have a proven track record and can attract big names. I have  no idea who that is as I say bored already by it lol.

My only thing is we need to make sure they can work with a majority of the squad so the system may need to be similar to what we have been side to or something the squad can adapt to easily.

Wow, this is a real left field move. Arbeloa doesn't have a lot of top level experience, having managed the senior team for 6 months. However, he started managing the U14's in 2020 and has worked his way up, so there must be sonething about him.

It's worth noting that several youth players successfully transitioned into the senior team and he would've been a big part of that, having developed them.

No idea if he'll be any good but I commend the club for taking a chance and not just taking a safe option (like Dyche).

Pochettino was fired three months after they signed Sess. He's well known for playing and developing young players, so I'm sure he'd have given Sess a chance.

Unfortunately for Sess, Mourinho succeeded Poch and he is the opposite. Remember he sold De Bruyne and Salah when Chelsea manager.

I am not knocking him, just saying not everyone will be pleased as there is always something someone won't like about a manager

Take Carrick,  very little experience (less than McKenna?) based on what people have said he wouldn't be for us where as I like the way he has set his team out so I'd consider him if he were available.

It's horses for courses, we will get someone and hopefully we all get behind the team as I am sure we will do

Agree. If we're honest we've no idea how good a manager will be. Good example being Slavisa, a complete unknown who we all came to love. Compare to Ranieri, a well respected and experienced manager, but complete disaster at Fulham.

blingo

Who's to say Poch isn't already lined up and has given TK a list of who he wants in so we can be ready for when he arrives after the WC?

And if you look at the procession of Spanish coaches who've filtered through from Spain, it's an impressive list..

Guardiola, Arteta, Martinez, Iraola, Emery, Fabregas...

Could be a gem of an appointment if things work out!

Yeah, but thats the point as well. It would be boring as hell if we all agreed on every manager.

We are not a club that can get premium managers or sign premium 'sure thing' players. We have to make compromises. Either we get the more unproven managers/players, like Jedi and McKenna, or we get managers/players whos stock is lower or unwanted at that moment, such as Amorim and Leno.

Discussion (in this case the pros and cons) is sort of what the forum is about.

There are downsides with every manager option right now. Putting the managers against each others in the discussion is what can get people on board (or not).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking him but he is not "an elite coach". Just look at his experience to date.

The fact he was appointed Madrid manager (and had so much success moving up the ranks at Madrid) suggests his coaching skills (note difference between elite manager vs elite coach) are very strong and I would argue an elite level as that is probably the most coveted job in world football

Maybe you can enlighten us all to the experience Mikel Arteta had on his first day at Arsenal?
He didn't do too bad last season did he ? 😉

Wasnt Guardiola given the Barca job after coaching kids and reserves in Barca B for a season? I don't have time to google him, but I'm sure the punt that they took on him worked out ok?

Well since you quite clearly already know you hardly need "enlightening" do you!

Oh yes, and read my post properly please. Where did I suggest whether he would or would not "do too bad"? I argued that he isn't an elite coach. And given his limited experience and lack of silverware I think that's a fair and reasonable argument.

Buffalo76

I'd rather take a gamble on Arbeloa than appoint the likes of Dyche or Lampard.

To be fair, when he became head coach of the first team, they had a rather decent squad. But to his credit, he got a lot more out of them than the previous coach.

Am I missing something or where is the link to Poch? Seems like its mainly odds and wishes from some supporters. I havent read any credible source saying we are in for him

Considering how fast this seems to move now with intense Arbeloa and Oliveira rumors (McKenna, Frank, Slot and Amorim have all in one way or another rebuffed our offers, if there ever were one) I doubt we will wait a month to get a new manager in place.

Any agreements between Poch and us would surely have been in the papers by now.

Sorry, but we wont be getting Poch. Let it go
