He's scored 12 of those 18 since he turned 35 i.e. ever since he had a decent team around him.

Are you suggesting he's not very good or was that tongue in cheek?? The World Cup is only staged every FOUR years and so the player ages and with that, traditionally loses some speed, pace, positioning and shooting skills and general eye for goal. But NOT Messi. He's now 38 and still has it all. Genetically, like Ronaldo, Lionel Messi is a footballing miracle. His penalty against Austria wasn't very clever, but he made up for that with two terrific goals.

Messi is a phenomenon. Just to remind you of some of his achievements in a career, to date, which has earnt him 47 trophies.

He is incredible . He has also adapted his game since he lost that electric pace . Now links the play much deeper and then arrives late on the edge of the box and picks up the scraps . Much like Kane is trying to do actually but not quite as well

I don't care about the last few twilight years, in their prime, Ronaldo was smashing it in the roughest, toughest, fastest and best league in the world, whilst Messi was playing in 9-0 romps over lower La Liga teams that were League One standard. Also reckon La Liga is overweighted in Ballon D'or judging. Sorry but it will always be CR7 for me, he had everything whereas Messi is just great at dribbling.
