Quote from: General on July 30, 2026, 10:49:56 AMApparently now Fulham are supposedly looking to sign Garcia for close to 70m AND with Real keeping a preferential purchase option... This seems ridiculous and bordering on stupid if so, though if Real pay £100m for him, then it works?

How likely vs unlikely though...?

As long as not a buy back for stupid price isn't included then I'm sort of ok with it, I am assuming (probably a mistake lol, that the preferential purchase option is first choice on buying if we wish to sell and or allowed to match any accepted bid

Yep, thats it. If someone bid for GG lets say 100m in a couple of years time then Real Madrid have a right to match that bid, which is fine for me.

Preferential purchase option would just mean they have first refusal if we sell, but we have 100% of the rights. I'd rather this than the stupid 50% sell on or whatever.

I have no issue with shelling £60m on a potentially marquee striker to build a side around.

Genuinely excited if this comes off.

Close to 70m? If he becomes a 100m striker, that's not even going to be a lot of profit. Are we mad?

This is how much good strikers cost now... and 30m profit is a lot of money. Would keep me comfortable for a year of partying in Monaco at any rate.

Since it's not my money, the fine tuning of the Garcia deal isn't on my mind, but of course it has to be worked through.

No it's more that putting the ball in the net is a hugely important role, we have a new gaffer who wants this player to do it and need to give the gaffer a sporting chance of success.

If his teammates don't pass to him, it doesn't matter how good he is, he won't score.  If it's all set up on a plate hopefully he'll score plenty, including lots of scruffy ones that make no-one's highlight reel.  Love a scruffy goal.

Many a slip 'tween....

A few different structures being reported on twitter.... I'm hoping for 100% of GG even if it costs, and less bothered about % of Palacios.

Deeping_white

Garcia for €40m with 30% sell on
Palacios for somewhere between €8-10m with 30% sell on

Conflicting reports - Jack Kelly is still saying 40 million Euros.  70 million does sounds like too much.  It may have something to do with sell on Some saying that 70 million is for zero sell on % for Madrid, but with first option to buy back only. Who knows?

As others have mentioned, we haven't spent serious money on a striker since Mitrovic (£27m?) and we sold him for £50m. So it is about time we did committed to a big spend - especially when you consider what we paid for Smith-Rowe and Kevin.

Besides - I would rather we paid £60m to Madrid than £30 plus to Chelsea for Delap!

The club can't win with some.

Either it's the board lack ambition or are we mad? 🤷🏻

This is direct from Matteo Moretto who has been all over these transfers this summer so I would take these figures as the accurate ones for now until we get anything more concrete.

I absolutely want ambition but if this will cause us to be in violation of the SCR rules then we would be mad. But the Khans are business people so I'm guessing they they already know how much they can spend within SCR.

But it looks more like €40m which is within the fees we've been spending the last couple of seasons. 30% sell-on is definiitely chunky though.

Agreed - Marca is the top sports outlet for Madrid news and Moretto will be right on top of what`s going on. FWIW, i think this is the better deal, rather than us forking out 60-70m euros.

40m and 30% sell-on makes much more sense using my GCSE maths brain.

To buy for 70m and 0% sell-on, is arguing that the 30% sell-on is worth 30m. We would have to sell him on for 100m for 30% sell-on to be worth 30m (if it is 30% on-profit sell-on then 140m).

We would have to sell him for north of 100m (140m) for the 70m 0% sell-on to be worthwhile i.e. only sales north of 100m (140m) would make the 30% clause worth more than 30m.

Lets be real (not Real), Fulham aren't getting that much for him even if he scores 25 goals a season.
You don't know where i'm from dawg.

General

Fabrizio Romano is saying a deal up to 70m euros - so perhaps 40m with stipulations of if we get into Europe, goalscoring record, winning trophies etc and a sell-on clause?
