I was thinking if we didn't lose so many players to AFCON last season we would have arguably made Europe. One benefit of bringing in home grown talent (it seems we are targeting home grown: Cresswell, Charles and James) is that we won't have to worry about this as much moving forward.

We had our best sequence of Premier League results last season during AFCON and anyway it's moved to the summer as has been mentioned on here multiple times in innumerable threads.

Regardless, I'm delighted we're also scouting homegrown talent.

Ahhh I wasn't aware AFCON has been moved to the summer. And yes, we did have a good spell during AFCON, but we missed out on Europe by 1-2 points, I can't help but think if we had our best players we may have got that extra point.

2 points were there for the taking against Wolves....that's where we lost Europe..

Valid point re Wolves game but still think Westham game at home was the turning point of losing momentum. Win at Sunderland beat Spurs then the manager makes unforgiveable changes! Throw in Bournemouth at home and argument damage was done?

Dropping 6 points at home to Everton and West Ham were disasters, both which we should have won comfortably

Sassuolo have agreed a deal with Verona to sign Scotland international Kieron Bowie.
The former Hibernian, Fulham and Raith Rovers forward is set to sign a five year deal.
It is understood that Sassuolo will pay an initial fee of £10m.
According to Sky in Italy, Bowie is scheduled to have a medical today.
Bowie, 23, moved to Italy scoring 4 goals in 14 games. He has featured twice for Scotland but was not in the World Cup squad.

God I hope so. I personally don't have anything against him, he made some mistakes last season, but what football player doesn't.

But his lack of pace will be a gigantic liability in what is seemingly a high line high press system that Arbeola prefers, he could easily be targeted by opposition for just that.
So with the likely system that we will play he is now actually on the very top my list of players I want out, by a country mile .

Either that or reschool him as a DM. His passing range could still be beneficial that way.

I think some of the negativity around Andersen is a bit harsh. He isn't the quickest but can read the game well (like Reeeem). As others have said, I think we  still need experience  with all the youngsters coming in. I think some are writing him off without giving him the chance to see  what he can do under AA.

The problem is his issue as it has always been is that he's quite slow, and AA's system employs a high line and press, which makes him a glaring liability. Nothing he can necessarily do about it, but it's an inescapable issue unfortunately

Where've you seen that? I think the issue for us would be that a Russian club is owed a sell on fee so I don't know iff that would get us in hot water. He's also not as much of a hot commodity as he was 2 years ago when we were last interested

Sure, I get that but that is why he works well with Bassey. Calvin (Tete and Jedi) provide that cover. If AA wants all speed then yes, his days will be numbered.

Think it is Kyiv that has a sell-on so that should not be an issue. Girona was relegated last season so he has apparently submitted a transfer request, think that's why it popped up again

While Tsygankov is undoubtedly a talented player, he might be too soft for the EPL. I'm skeptical about his potential move from Spain. Clubs like Sevilla or Valencia could be interested, but I don't see him as better than any of our current wingers. Honestly, he hasn't been the same since dealing with so many injuries.

Very excited about Gonzalo Garcia and the links all seem to be to high quality, technical players. My only concern is that it seems we might need more physical presence in some areas. Hopefully we get linked to some players with a bit of height and strength as well.

We've all cried out for a bit more youth in the team, and we're definitely getting that. It's a big pivot, and hope the club finds the right balance.

Good observation.  It does lead to wondering "Where's the Beef?"  Very glad to see the youth movement too, but the club is shaping up with quite a few flyweights.  King, Palacios, Bobb, Kevin, Garcia et al may prove problematic in defense of set pieces and corners.  Last couple of seasons have felt we've been vulnerable on corners, and did us in a fair few number of times.  Some height and strength would certainly be welcome.
