Said elsewhere no real loss this one. Didn't really rate the lad from what I saw, wasn;t convinced he'll reach the top level - wish him well in his career from here. Fortunately we're all good at LB for the foreseable

Quote from: LC on August 11, 2026, 03:52:59 PMHave we any links with a Harry Wilson replacement?

We will defo sign another RW but can imagine Bobb being first choice.
We were linked with Roony Bardghji who has now done his ACL so won't be joining. Also been linked with Nwaneri from Arsenal who would be a good signing
Haven't we been linked with Soule of Roma? If we have then maybe he is the wide right player?

Soule would be great if we could get that done, but I can't see us spending another 30m on a RW when we've bought Bobb and Kevin for 30m+ in recent windows

It appears from the early friendlies that AA is going to be more narrow with the wingers and get the width from the fullbacks. The Robinson goal in the Palace friendly is a great example.

Its why I really like the idea of Nwaneri on loan with an option if it's available. Think Palacios is going to be coming in from the left. Kevin, Palacios, ESR, King, Bobb, and Nwaneri would be outstanding depth in the 3 spots behind the striker. Some versatility in roles too as everyone save Kevin can play centrally if AA wanted a more attack minded 4141.

Could also see where nobody is brought in at RW and you see an additional CM like Pitarch with Iwobi or Sess shuttled more forward in depth roles.

Tend to agree, but am sure i read we were linked, which of course means nothing

That's absolutely hilarious. I've got this image of him bicycle kicking it into his own net and celebrating with the oppo.

Unfortunately the own goal was a bit of bad luck, he slid in to cut out a cross and it just flicked past the keeper. Can't vouch for the penalties but it's clear the move falling through has got to him

Quote from: demeant0r on August 11, 2026, 05:01:37 PMSo we've now spent £70m this summer and earned £15m-£20m from Diop and Lukic. I'd imagine we can make one more big signing (£30m-ish) and get one loan in. That big signing might would have to be a CB and the winger would be the loan. But then we're looking at getting in a RB so who knows?

Think it's closer to £65m, but we're being linked with Hector - £10m, a RCB, for £20m-£30m and a DM at the bare minimum in Pitarch (who could be £30m).. I think we'll also potentially need another winger as we've seen both Wilson and Chuk go and only brought in Palacios so far

I think this is a big and intentional rebuild period, so we could se spending go closer to £120-£140m this summer.

Don't forget, those are full fees, so they're spread out over a longer period, so if for instance we paid for all the deals over the lengths of their contracts, it'd be £65m over 5 years, so £13m a year.. that's not the exact figure, but it won't be all up front, but structured differently based on the paying schedules we've got with the selling clubs.

Also, if we reduce the way bill significantly - lets say Raul's contract was £100k a week and Gonzalo's is for instance £40k, Rauls contract would've been £5.2m, and Garcia's would've been £2.08m - so we've got more money in the bank to potentially play around with that way too.
Just to comment on a little of this - payment schedules make no difference to player registration amortisation for SCR, although achievement of specific targets would.

The primary issue is that while it sounds great that the new players only cost c£13m in amortisation this year, we are probably carrying c£45m of amortisation from previous years (especially on players like ESR, Andersen, Berge, Kevin & Bobb). However the transition to this new model of signing younger players requires the selling of some of these younger players for a profit to cover this amortisation, which is very much the Bournemouth/Brighton model. Ultimately we probably need to sell Bassey or Robinson next summer.

I may be wrong but i seem to recall someone like Keiron McGuire on Price of Football Podcast say that all contract's are copied and lodged with the PL.

Believe that's correct so they know what bonuses are due or something, I believe there is a rule that states you cannot pay a bonus not agreed in a contract or levied with the FA prior to the season (those outside the contract being things like a squad bo us or even and extra bonus for winning a cup or league, which fall outside of any other contractually agreed bonuses)

I wonder what bonus Garcia will get for winning the Golden Boot this season?? 🤔

As things stand Igor Thiago is still at Brentford (albeit linked to Bayern). Didn't quite win the golden boot but you get my point.

FFN reporting that we're sounding like a favoured destination should Fort move on from Barca

"From what I've heard, if he is to leave his preference is us. Arbeloa is a former Spanish fullback that won it all. That really appeals to him."

Make of that what ya will. Reports did state Arbeloa was keen too so expect this could well happen if we can find a fee we're happy with for Castagne. If Fort is at the rumoured 10m range then could be very astute business. A very attacking RB that suits AA's style of high pressing wingbacks and seems to match Jedi's willingness to get back and forth. Really like the look of this one on paper.

Also reporting that Manager is really impressed by Zepa and he may be considering keeping him with the first team. PErsonally would be concerned if another RW wasn't brought in, much rather Zepa went out on loan. But as another young option as backup given we lost Wilson and Chuk would be ok I guess, just think better for his development to go and play somewhere regularly.

Can you share link, I may be blind, but was just on FFN twitter and didn't see that reference..

Did see the Zepa piece.

Also, noticed that whilst Arbeloa did win everything internationally with Spain, when it came to the tournaments he hardly played and was often on the bench. Think one of the two euro wins he was playing more regularly. Admittedly the spanish squad was particularly strong regardless and he was playing at Real during that time, so not exactly doing badly, but if it was me it wouldn't be the same as being the player playing the games to win the World Cup etc, though i'd appreciate I 'won' it and was in the squad that did as is still a significant feat either way.

Diop moving on wasn't really a surprise but Lukic was more so, does anyone think another senior player or two could be on the way out?

E.g. Reed, Castange, Tete, Berge?

I guess that's the "dream" for smaller clubs like us... some big club to swoop in with a £100m+ bid on a player.

The quote is from outside of twitter regarding fort - https://x.com/FulhamTransfer/status/2087460945735930234?s=20 but that's the story being discussed

An Sure Arbeloa isn't Spains greatest every fullback or something but he was part of first teams and or squads that won it all and clearly therefore reached an elite level, even if amongst that elite group he isn't getting listed as an all time great. So as a young fullback leaving barcelona having being shunned there I can totally see why it would appeal. Keep in mind Fort would have been 3 years old when Arbeloa won the world cup, can't imagine he'll recall much about the specificas of Arbeloas career, just will have seen him lifting the cups and competing at the highest level.

Reportedly:

Castagne if we get an offer and can bring in Fort/Lewis type. Looks most likely
Anderson was apparently a discussion but seems unliklely we sign 2 RCBs before deadline day and/or we get a deal that makes sense. (our reported budget is around 25m for a CB - which we're apprently lining up on Ait Boudlil currently)
Berge: No, club want to keep unless a silly offer comes in.
Robinson: Likely keep but another who would be considered apprerently IF the offer was too good to turn down
Reed: Not heard of any plans to move him on and the way club keep featuring him makes me think he may suit AA system more and he may be kept. Good pro and squad guy, not crazy wages, wont fetch much of a fee.

As for Lukic, not suprised really, last year of contract, 30 tomorrow, steady but not spectacular, and got a decent fee that's been reinvested into a young upcoming talent while lowering wages.
