Shea is tall but I don't think he plays "big". He's not a bruiser as such. He is a decent winger but like almost all American players, he'll have to relearn the game.

Samaras is a pretty flattering comparison, but I think your analysis is right.  Tall and stringy with a mess of a haircut.  Decent ball skills, but his crossing accuracy last year was actually quite poor.

While I thought Geoff Cameron was a steal for Stoke at the price they paid MLS, I'm not sure about Shea.  He hasn't lived up to his potential yet.

Really the only substantial transfers have been Ba, Sturridge & Remy. So there has not been a lot of business done by anyone.

I dont give a crap about what other teams do. We have had 4 months to look for and line up the 2 CM's we needed.
It should have been done and dusted in the first week in Jan and we could move on. Pay whats required and get it sorted.
Or maybe Jol's agent does not have any CM's on his books, hence no signings.
