Sound just like last season games. Going to be a very long season.........

Stefano Okaka Chuka

Meanwhile Hull is stuffing Betis 3-0...Not so sure we are in our best shape yet.

Remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
I will be as good as I can be and when I cross the finishing line I will see what it got me

I just wish I thought Jol had any better idea what his best team or best formation is a week before the season starts. Three weeks to go for the window to shut. But we have the makings of an average side with some flair in need of a finisher.

Anothewr game where we really didn't create much according to GJ. Worries that we are entering the season the same as last. Better neat football but oh for some danger in the final third.

Count Berbatov

Berbatov has Cantona's knack of being the man amid a stampede towards the door who stops to notice a side exit that nobody else has seen.

Jonathan Northcroft on Berbatov:  "...like a man in silk pyjamas shooting pigeons from a deckchair"

For the 12 mins he was on Taarabt looked up for it. Somehow he has to start to add some flair & pace. Dave hardly got a touch. Boateng was awesome. A bit nervous about Steck.

Pre season games don't count

...of course they don't, but you try telling the Hull fans that. Fans of teams like a win, no matter what the reason for the game, and especially at home...

In 8 out of our last 14 games last season we failed to score. We have had all summer to remedy what was a glaring issue to many. Ruiz is not a forward. Berbatov does his best work as a co-striker. To all intents & purposes we were again toothless this afternoon - our attacking system does not & has not worked and continues to fail. We NEED a STRIKER to play alongside Berbatov - 6 days to go before the big kick-off. If our 'spearhead' doesn't change, I'm sorry but we are still in for a long hard lean time.
Stay Fulhamish ~ stay unique

i got the impression from GJ that the 2nd goal could of been prevented by stek. but instead just stayed on his line

What concerns me also is that I have a memory that a lot of the goals we did score were fairly long-range efforts.  That was true today as well.

We are static in the attack, and as a result have a lot of difficulty breaking defenses down.  Prior to Dejagah's injury we at least had some dynamism on the right due to his good interplay with Riether.

But in general, people don't make as many runs as I'd expect.  When Berbatov gets the ball in the box he causes havoc -- but there is rarely anybody making a run for him to lay off to for a good shot.

Yes, there was that terrible spell of six games when the only goal on our scoresheet was an own goal, we just had no threat in the final third.

Let's hope we are not going to see more play like that this season.

Big Martin Jol

Not ideal but pre-season is pre-season. Let's see how we shape up against Sunderland with three points up for grabs.
Scott Parker is the greatest living Englishman.

Just coming back from the game. We looked fairly good for the first 20 minutes. Then it was pretty much all Parma. There is a fundamental flaw with how we play. We just never look like creating anything. Ruiz will most likely be defended on here as normal, but he was very poor once again. Tarrabt came on and looked 100x more influential than Bryan.

Boateng was out best player by a long way today, looks a very good signing.

Tactically most of the players look to have a free role in the team. Dejagah flatters to deceive, and doesn't make the most of the good situations he gets himself in. Berbatov kept dropping too deep and was visibly frustrated.

God knows how the Parma player stayed on the pitch after slapping Karagounis. Being a friendly shouldn't have mattered

Abbotsbury White

It was all a bit groundhog dayish, like watching any number of games last season, lack of pace going forward although Taraabt did liven things up a bit, and to be fair Parma missed a couple of absolute sitters so could have been much worse..really still need a left back, creative midfielder and someone alongside Berba,if us the fans can see that surely MJ and the board see it??

Did Taarabt play on the right wing? He substituted Dejagah, right?
"Everybody's assuming [Berbatov will go] but as far as I know he is a Man United player....my mistake. Oh my God. He's a Fulham player."

I was trying to convince myself more than anything...

The only way Berba can have a partner up with him is playing 4-4-2. The MF can play as a diamond or wide flat . For me these 4 should be Taarabt, Boateng, Ruiz & Dejagah. The 2 up top must be Berba and either Bent, Osvaldo or possibly Defoe.
Our 4-4-1-1 DOES NOT WORK.

Taarabt played on the left, and looked very good. Duff played on the right when he came on.
