They've signed him to play CB

We've made a bright start to the window but still a long way to go. Imo we still need a LBx1, RBx1, CBx2, CDMx1, RMx1, STx1 (?) to have a team capable of a promotion challenge. Still, Cairney, Pringle and Lonergan are all very decent signings at this level.

Craven Mad

This is a massive signing for us.

Welcome to the club, Tom!

Craven Mad

Great contract length too. A nice change from the usual 2/3 years.

Orlando Sa is still going to score a hat trick against us when we play Reading next season.

How was that?

Do we really need another striker? We've got McCormack, Smith, Woodrow, Dembele and Taggart. Plus Mitroglou is still on our books.

I'd like us to try and go for Cotterill from Birmingham though for the right. Buy all those wingers that play well against us. Full backs will be very important though.

Glad we're bringing in British players with experience of this level rather than getting in overseas no-marks. We need to flex our financial muscle this summer. Due to parachute payments we should still be able to beat the majority of teams in this division especially when it comes to wages.

Not sure his best position has been decided yet, but Plumain has had a good season up top for the U21s; he might be a good option for 5th choice (allowing us to spend money elsewhere). I guess it depends on how Kit thinks Taggart is coming along, and whether he wants to play 1 or 2 strikers up top?

Rovers' official website post can't even muster a thank you to Cairney for his contribution to the club.

http://www.rovers.co.uk/news/article/tom-cairney-fulham-2509033.aspx

"Rovers midfielder Tom Cairney has today joined fellow Championship club Fulham for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old moves to Craven Cottage on a four-year deal.

Cairney arrived at Rovers on loan from Hull City in August 2013, before making the move to Ewood Park a permanent one in January 2014.

In total, he scored nine goals in 85 appearances for the club."

Considering that during his time he's been their player of the season, never had a public strop, was consistently a first team regular and arrived for around just £300k, you'd have thought they'd have had the civility to thank him for his efforts and wish him luck for the rest of his career - even if only as a formality...

Weird club...

grandad

Excellent signing. Now let´s concentrate on getting a defence worthy of the title.

Rumours of him preferring a central midfield role is good. But three sold signings now and more importantly it gives the right impression of building a side instead of filling a squad. Very pleased because it is another player that is used to the Championship and good enough to step up.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I'm happy with this signing. I assume he'll play wide right in a 442 with Pringle on the left. LVC is an obvious starter in CM, I hope we're looking at a Matic/Etuhu style player to go in along side him. Unless they think Hyndman can do a job there.

I'm not so sure. I heard one of Tom's major issues at Blackburn was the tendency for Gary Bowyer to stick him out on the right when he wanted to play centrally.

He's left-footed, so could sit at LCM, with LVC at RCM. Or I think he might be played in a CAM spot.

Still, your guess is as good as mine!

I quite like the idea of a 4-3-3 something like:

              Betts
 Yedlin Dunk   Burn Kav
           Hyndman
      LVC        Cairney
D.Gray               Pringle
              Ross

Subs: Lonergan, Hutch, Jazz, Parker, Roberts, Smith, Cauley

Reserves: Jesse, Bod, Grimmer, Tunni, Cole, G.Williams, Moussa, Taggart

It's a bit lightweight in the middle, and requires a couple of unlikely signings, but looks more like the sort of thing I'd like to see (but anything will be an improvement on the narrow diamond).

EDIT: apparently Cairney is right footed (transfermarkt).. Defnietely left footed; checked his youtube vids - unless he's weird and takes freekicks with his weak foot, he's a lefty.

good shout, think he was left of a 3

I really dont like the idea of Ross playing as a lone striker. Obviously if we're playing with wide players its good to have a tall centre forward to get on the end of crosses. Also Ross has a tendancy to drop very deep and out wide, which would be a disaster in that formation.

I agree though I cant see us playing with just Cairney and LVC in the middle. Would be very lightweight. I guess Pringle could play on the "wrong" side as he did for Rotherham (I'm not a fan of inverted wingers personally) and Cairney out on the left.

Obviously if he doesnt want to play wide...

Well done MJG, can you now look into your crystal ball and give us a hint of who's next?

Agree about Ross - I'm just trying to avoid another Smith debate (who I - for the record - think's an ideal foil for Ross, but know many disagree).

Agree about inverted wingers too.. Hopefully a couple more signings and we'll get an idea of Kit's plans for the starting 11/formation.
