According to sky sources, malcom is in advanced talks with Everton.

£30 mill deal, and Fulham had a £40 mill bid? 🙈

sky sports lyall said we didn't make a bid and weren't interested

Strange as sky bet don't any odds for Malcom joining Everton, you think they would update accordingly

Suspended betting due to apparently moving to Everton?

HillingdonFFC

Not sure we were definitely in for Malcom but if we were I'd be a bit disappointed if he went to Everton. Could've understood Inter but Everton? Nah
No disrespect to Everton who are a far bigger club than us but thought London would even that up? Home to one of the biggest ex pat Brazilian communities in the world etc

Lot of bed wetting going on about the bookies odds about relegation. Weren't Newcastle and Brighton in that sphere last season, and I'd say we're better than them.
Yes we need a few players in but I believe what we have at moment will easily be mid table.Coyw.
We're a better side than some of you  think. 049:gif

MJG if you're suggesting it's OK to have Betts and Rodak / Norman as our keepers next year, you've lost 75% of all your hard-earned credibility with me right there. Betts is arguably not good enough and given his injury history, certainly won't be available for 38 games. More importantly, it would be a backward step on what we had in that position last year. Criminal.

We're going into a season where the very best outcome is probably finishing 6 pts above the relegation zone. In reality our survival margin will probably be even smaller than that. With such fine fine margins, we cant wing it after a slow start or playing our kids to cover injuries.
My comment was that I would not lose any sleep if either Rodak or Norman were are number two going into the season. Who the number one is was not relevant to that point.
What I was trying to say is they are both good keepers.
We do want and require another GK to challenge or replace Betts that's for sure.

Agreed Mince.

When we came up last time we were favourite s to go down but finished comfortably. There are a lot of poor teams in the PL. More than there were on our previous promotion imo.
We do need 6 extra quality players tho.
Looking at MJG's table I note that Burnley played almost the same team throughout the season. This was a similar tactic to Hodgeson's with us. That is the model I would prefer, and suspect, Joka to use. He doesn't make changes to the core team for the sake of it.

Expecting the Mitrovic deal to go ahead.. However, if it doesn't go through, we may see a lot more of Fonte.

Fulham face competition from FC Basel for Young Boys' right back Kevin Mbabu, according to Sky sources.

The Cottagers want to sign the former Newcastle man but they've yet to make a formal bid and we understand Young Boys have rejected a £7m bid from Basel for the defender and value him at £10m.

Mbabu signed for the Swiss Champions from Newcastle United last summer and helped Young Boys win the Swiss Super League for the first time in 32 years.

Last year, Mbabu was timed as the second fastest player in the world, behind Real Madrid's Gareth Bale.

Basically like for like with Fredericks from what I gather.

he seems to have overcome his previous troubles with Newcastle.
I would suggest working under Joka would be good for him, and us, if we were to make a move.

When we came up last time we'd absolutely romped the league and owned all our key players except Boa Morte. But we still spunked about £40m on 9/10 new players, who knows what that amount equates to in today's market but it was massive.

Also look at MJG's other posts, we used 28 players last year.

40m on 9/10 players?

First game at man utd featured van der sa and steed compared to tge promotion team from what i can remember. Goma was bought previous season and not sure if leggy played first games.

Re: 28 players used. How many were players like DLT, Edun, Djalo, Aluko, Mollo, Graham, Cisse, Soares... all of whom played less than 3/1/2 games worth... that drops us down to a core 20 players who played most games in a season (I've included Christie here who only started 1 game) which had 8 games more than the league we are going into. We are on 15 players now (Rodak included).

With respect your being a tad alarmist Statto.

Yes we had 28 players used last season. But 9 of those played only 2-6 games.
Mitro only played 17 games.
Targett played 18

My point is, only 14 players of the 28 in the squad played 26+ games in the season.
Only 10 of those played 33+ games
And only 9 of those were starting 11.

So the the core team is only 10-14 players.

You don't need 24 1st team players in the squad.
That, imo, is a luxury of the top 6 teams and they have to rotate regularly to keep everyone happy.

Evening Standard reporting we are closing in on Mitrovic signing (once he's back from leave). Nothing new really there but better than reports of others close to snapping my him up instead (report mentions Fenerbache's interest but that we're still in the driving seat, which is positive):

If Everton sign Malcolm, does that leave Bolasie free to leave and if so, do you think we should go in for him?

where have i said you need 24 1st team players?
all i'm saying is we need a higher standard of squad player
do the maths, "9 of those played only 2-6 games" means those players playing 18-54 games total, so 1-2 of those players in the team every week
Some on here are saying bettinelli, targett, even mitro mcdonald ream kalas aren't good enough FFS... Yet they're happy with at least one first team spot being occupied by the likes of Djalo/Edun/Fossey each week

Two quotes suggesting similar:

"IMO you need a squad of about 25 players - something like 23 senior players and 2/3 youths making up the numbers. "

"Looking at the teams we'll be competing with, Watford, Brighton and Huddersfield, average of 26 players used by each of those teams, of which on average 24 were starters."
