Ok, I leaving Tuesday for London and thus far only have 3 things planned.

The Odense match, Bolton match, and a finding a gym close to my sisters flat. I may get a chance to ride with a local racing team while I am there through a connection with my sister which should be cool as well.

Question to the group, if I can only see 10 things while in London, what would they be? Basically what are the must see's (I like museums).

Thanks for any suggestions!

If you like ales then go to the pubs around Borough Markets (Wheatsheaf, Market Porter, George Inn, Rake etc), then get some grub from the markets.

Gordon's Wine Bar next to Charing Cross station

Obscure little underground bar with decent priced wine, lots of cheese and good atmosphere.

Jerry Sadowitz - Comedian, Magician, Psychopath! At the Leicester Square Theatre.

British comedy at its best.

He's the Queen's favourite comedian - alledgedly!

there is also a fake German Beirkeller where you can pay 8 quid for a large glass of fizz

Climb the Monument for great views of the River Thames and of Tower Bridge.

British Museum and especially the Rosetta Stone.

Unfortunately I have to refer to that frequently in order to understand Mr Lighthouse's musings  :dft012: and in your case as a mod it should be mandatory viewing.

Actually the museum is very underrated believe it or not. I happen to like it. Good mid-week visit for half a day'ish.

I think the main thing is to walk everywhere.  The tube is a miserable place at the best of times and the stops are a lot less far apart than they look.  You'll see so much more on foot, particularly if you duck off the main roads and use the back streets.

Strongly recommend a couple of good pubs: the Jerusalem Tavern up Clerkenwell is hard to find but worth the effort, as are countless other proper pubs.  A pint and a bowl of chips on a cold London afternoon takes some beating.

Cross the Thames on foot near the houses of Parliament, preferably after dark - wonderful sight.

London itself isn't all that interesting I don't suppose.  But depends on your interests.  Just try to avoid Oxford Circus, Piccadilly, etc: nothing there to see, but lots of people trying to do so anyway.

Sherlock Holmes museum on Baker St?

Hampstead Heath is a treat; maybe see how our posh people live with a trip up that way.  The Holly Bush pub is outstanding but gets busy.

A curry on brick lane won't disappoint.

The world's your lobster: go for it.

Another idea, the Cartoon Musuem, about 2 minutes from the British Museum

Great little place, full of satirical cartoons and charting the history of them from Gilray to modern day mockery of the establishment

Hello Jack,

Lots of good points already. I can vouch for Borough Market and the surrounding pubs, Monument, Natural History museums and Thames boat ride etc all worth doing.

A few other places/activities that may be of interest:

Tour of Craven Cottage - There is one Sunday 18th, the day after the Bolton game. You can have a good Sunday Roast afterwards. I'm sure you have read reviews on here before to know that it is worthwhile.

Fish and Chips - one of our traditonal dishes (along with Curry) - the Golden Hind is a good value Fish and Chip place just off Oxford Street (in Marlybone) and is also BYO.

The London Eye - Best on a clear night or day, otherwise you won't see much further than Central London but when the sun is out you get far reaching views. Worth booking ahead as this will save you queuing. Don't worry about fast track though - just go early in the morning or late at night. Sunset is around 4pm if you want to see this from the eye or in the dark.

Greenwich - Only a stones throw from our FA cup opponents and a little off the beaten track is Greenwich. There is enough to day or an afternoon here depending on how much time you have. Have a wander round the market and old Naval college (Designed by Wren) before getting something to eat in one of the many restaurants or try a few ales overlooking the Thames  (The Trafalgar Tavern for a pint with a view). For something special check out The old brewery - they have a fancy restaurant and their own micro brewery. Walk off the beer by taking a look round the Naval museum (free) or walking up the hill in Greenwich park for a great view of Canary Wharf, Docklands and the town. Lovely day out and only 20 minutes down the river from the London Eye if you take the commuter boat (All the sights but none of the cheesy commentary in 5 languages).

Slightly Surprised nobody has suggested Madame Tussauds:

They are offering savings on online bookings:

Wow! Thanks all. Walking is what I will be doing most. Need to stay fit while I am in your city. I'll post some impressions of the places I visit while I am there.

Thank you all very much! If anyone has any other suggestions, let me know.

How about a good curry? Whats your favorite place?

Burt

London Eye. Particularly on a clear day.

A cruise down the Thames. Westminster down to Greenwich. If you have time, get off there, walk around Greenwich, go in to the park and walk up to the observatory where you get quite stunning views. My mum lives in nearby Blackheath and makes a decent cuppa  :dft011:
