King Karagounis - you can't help but love him!

How refreshing to have a player in the twilight of his career, come to our club and play with pride and passion, rather than just pick up his pay cheque. His delight at scoring against Blackpool and Wigan was there for all to see, but even more so when Richardson equalised in the Blackpool replay this week. He was one of only a couple of players who could hold their head high after the dire performance at Liverpool and has continued his good form since. Though 35 years old he is still a very fine footballer and as his confidence grows, his influence on the team does too. Yes he is comical and bounces about, but I can see no reason why he cannot serve us well for the rest of this season and the next. Of course players will come and go and possibly the manager, but most of the players we have now will be in the squad next season. He could be the one player to keep morale up during these unsettled times.
I love him - Praise to The King.

Well said!  Has definitely been one of the few bright spots over the last couple of months.

:plus one: and he still has quality and has shown he can hit long balls to a players feet. Only thing I don't understand is Jol keep saying he can't last 90 minutes well he did 120 against Blackpool. Definitely worth another 2 year contract in the summer.

Abbotsbury White

Was thinking much the same, just so refereshing to see his enthuasm during this very poor run, think he will be one of those players who popped in to the cottage for a while and are remembered a long time eg Montella.

Woh there. He's 35. Two years is ridiculous.

Great addition. Surprised many, myself included.

Couldn't agree more with all of this!
It's great to see as I myself grumbled when we signed him out of desperation, and now my opinions of him are all but negative! The guy is a great professional and a top player

I really thought it was out of order when he arrived and people disparagingly called him the "Ancient Greek" or "bandy old man", he's a European Championship winner, after all, in an unfancied but impressive Greek team.

He's was, and is, a class footballer -and to see his genuine delight at scoring and celebrating others' goals is a bonus.

It's a privilege to have him here - he reminds me of Mullery.

Some people just have it in them to go bit longer than most. Would be happy with another season with a option for the second. Long live King Kara!

A real character, quality player and positive influence. If only he were ten years younger!

There's no rush to sign him up. I think he'll want to stay here. We can just wait to see if he has any big injuries.

I don't think that he had been playing much and was not fully match fit when he arrived but his stamina seems to be improving game by game. Delighted to have him.

Oh dear, I have to put my hand up as having used The Ancient Greek title on this board before even seeing him play . It was done in humour but indicated that I had little expectations of a 35 year old from Greece.

Now I am sure that King Kara is a much better name or perhaps simply Giogios said with affection. We had best all agree on how we are going to address him because we need to be chanting his name at the next match.

He is terrific ,has great skills and a magnificent attitude and hopefully he can hold the team together for the rest of the season

Nothing wrong with calling him the ancient Greek. The ancient Aussie has had some fine moments for us.  :down_under:

Its that I did and others didn't.

He performed well at the Euros last summer with the same energy and stamina it is not going to dissapear overnight. People on this Forum are still saying we need Murphy now, not only to play but for his determination, spirit and commitment well Karagounis is like Murphy on Viagra. I think when the time comes for him to go he will be revered in the same as McBride is.

Makes sense to me. I was already going to add that he's been great at drawing fouls to relieve pressure in certain situations.
