Forever Fulham

Pushed out by Lambert, yet that's supposed to mean nothing to us?  He could have played alongside Benteke, or at least come on as a sub.  But instead he is the forgotten man  on a poor side.  This does not speak well of Bent's likely effectiveness for Fulham...

Heard it was a loan with option, 2m now and option is 3m. Is that right?

Could be that he failed to impress Lambert or could be he simply didn't fit into the system Villa play. Hopefully the latter. We'll see. In any case I hope he takes it as a big opportunity, the lack of serious interest must be a real reality check.

It's the former as Bent is a typical N9 and every club needs a N9...

Benteke drops a lot deeper and gets more involved, he also works harder defensively. That's what Lambert wants from his striker and Bent has never done that. We don't necessarily need that from Bent.

Could say the same for Boa Morte, Moritz Volz, Damien Duff and Danny Murphy, look how they faired for us! Can't exactly say they was setting the world alight before at their previous clubs, but more than flourished when they moved onto SW6....

That's a fair point, Moose.  But we also don't need a lazy forward who won't fight for repossession, even it it means tracking back when necessary.  I don't know...  You can never have enough proven scorers up top.  Maybe there's more to it than Lambert preferring Benteke.

So, long as Jol can get the best out of him it doesn't matter if Lambert couldn't.

Don't forget that if he'd played 6 more games for villa they'd have had to pay another £6m to Sunderland. The original deal was £18m that will rise to £24m after 60 appearances. That's why villa wasn't playing him.

Even if there isn't an option to buy he won't play for villa again so we'll get him cheap at the end of the season because he'll only have one season left and villa have to sell.

Palace offered this ,we offered that, palace offered £x pounds a week, bla, bla, bla.
No one on this board knows the finer details of any players deal, it's speculation. If he signs OK, lets get on with up and coming season.

That will be a first, if Tigana or  Roy was here yes.they are the last managers to improve players.

You are right, we need the exact opposite.

As long as this doesn't mean Berbatov as a number 10, I'm all for this signing

Count Berbatov

It's a good, yet kinda risky of a signing.
Why couldn't he make it there..? Two managers, same result on him
Berbatov has Cantona's knack of being the man amid a stampede towards the door who stops to notice a side exit that nobody else has seen.

Jonathan Northcroft on Berbatov:  "...like a man in silk pyjamas shooting pigeons from a deckchair"

Don't you think you are forgetting Dembele? Also, I don't remember Dempsey bagging 23 goals and 8 assists in one season with any other manager, the Pog having a goal scoring rate of 1 in 2 etc...

JackyFulham90

Bent is a top signing,  loan or permanant deal, he will score goals a decent centre midfielder & we are good for a top 10 finish

Lambert didn't rate him because he didn't track back. Didn't flop the season before, he got 9 in 25. Very reasonable. This was in McCleish's ultra defensive, really poor team.

Dembele, Kacaniklic, Dempsey, all improved their all round game under him. Dembele in particular really grew. Pogrebnyak, Riether, Diarra, Grygera and Enoh all played superbly (Pogo did at least for the first 6 games) after their confidence lost its way at their previous clubs.

Jol is good at getting the best out players that he likes and that fit in with his system. The problem is when they don't fit in, he's very bad at adapting his system. The hope is that he will have all the players he needs to make things work.

Azeedo

You guys are over thinking the loan, first he needs to be fit, 2 needs to find his place in the field, is he motivate to play at the top level.  I'm just happy we got him even if it is for just one season.  Low risk at this moment, we did not pay the premium and if he does shine, we will secure that contract just like we did for Reither.
