He needs to sign today if he's to play any part on Saturday as theres a deadline. Although i doubt he will play anyway even if he does sign today.

New players are rarely thrown straight in to the team, even less so when only signed less than 48 hours beforehand. Shame, as I think he could make the difference to us in away games, especially at one of his former clubs.

Sorry maybe youre right, I just read that on some article I found on twitter about Bent

I actually think this was the most important signing we still needed to make. You now look at our attacking players and there's 3 or 4 different ways we could set up what is effectively our front 4.

       Bent
Kaca Berbs Dejagah

       Bent
Bryan Berbs Taarabt

       Berbs
Kaca Bryan Dejagah

all of them offer something a bit different.

BestOfBrede

This'll be like when we signed Cole - good proven goalscorer on last legs.
I'm quite happy if he signs but I do worry he'll be injured quite a bit!

We should start a pools on when FFC will announce the Bent deal. Im thinking... Mid November, after he's already bagged 5 goals

EJL

If Jol drops Kaca or Dejagah I will go mad.

He's not even 30. Got a good 3 or 4 years at this level.

That says there's no option to buy on Bent. Of course we'll never know until he does/doesn't sign, and even then we might not know for sure, like with Taarabt.

This sounds like a poor deal for everyone. Bent hasn't got a proper future sorted, we will be strikerless come next season and Villa will be left with a player they don't want.

for me its

                        Bent
Taarabt/Kaca       Berba       Taarabt/Dejagah

                        Berba
Kaca                  Taarabt                Dejagah

Taarabt behind Berba adds more penetration than Ruiz behind Berba. Ruiz would be low down on my wide options.
Ruiz would be my next choice behind the striker in both.

Doesn't his contract run out at EOS anyway?

Paul Lambert has confirmed that Darren Bent is set to sign for Fulham on a season-long loan. (Source: BBC Football)
"Everybody's assuming [Berbatov will go] but as far as I know he is a Man United player....my mistake. Oh my God. He's a Fulham player."

I don't get it, the only bonus to a loan deal is that we don't take on all of the wages. But that article above says we will pay 75k a week wages in full AND 2million loan fee, we will get bent playing and scoring again only for him to go back to villa and they will sell him for more. This doesn't make sense to me, and all because we couldn't find an extra 4million to make it permanent?!

No way will we be paying that amount for a loan deal.

Shall I start.

Bent is unfit, he is rubbish and lost his sparkle if he can't even get into Villa. It will be weeks before he is fit anyway. OR

Medical today, results next wednesday week. OR

Medical now but the clubs ARE still in a battle over terms and fee OR

This could be the piece of the jigsaw we are waiting for.

PLEASE DELETE ALL NOT APPLICABLE

You could have written this a few years ago and replaced the name Bent with Murphy. This will be the man's last run so I expect (hope) that he comes good.
Its not that I could and others couldn't.
Its that I did and others didn't.

Buffalo76

He's a proven goalscorer in the Premier League so why just a loan deal?  Should've been a permanent transfer.

I doubt the credibility of that article, what are the chances that we're paying Bent 75k p/w?

Bassey the warrior

If we're getting him on loan I think it's very likely we'll have an option included. I also doubt we'll pay £2 million plus all his wages. We're very good at being tight and that wouldn't be like us.

Because we can. So long as there's an option to buy him. We can spend the money elsewhere this summer.
