Where did they get "Shahid Kahn cutting costs" from???

Rhys Lightning 63

If this is true, then Shahid can't afford to cut costs (odd as that sounds). The Premier League is such a cash cow, that everyone wants a piece (thus why he chose us rather than a Championship or foreign club). While he may save himself £2m by cutting staff/wages etc, if we get relegated, he's losing out on tens of millions if we drop down. Which is why he needs to be taking gambles (obviously not to the extent of Q.P.R), but he can't do nothing
@MattRhys63 - be warned, there will be a lot of nonsense

A poor Jaguars team has nothing to do with money being spent on FFC, plain and simple. The article is dumb for even implying it.

Other than both being professional sports teams, there is not that much in common with how the 2 leagues are run. You can't win with $$$ (see Jerry Jones) in the NFL. The hard salary cap (and floor for that matter) mean the teams are all essentially spending the same amount of cash yearly on players. You can't improve in free agency, since you are basically picking over the scraps of other teams unwanted nine times out of 10, so the only way to win is to accumulate draft picks, draft well, and hire good coaches. The Jags have determined (rightly so) that they are awful, so they have been dealing every useful asset they have for draft picks this season.

In the NFL it is better to be 2-14 than 5-11.

I am not sure if Khan will be a good or bad owner in the EPL. But I do know that the 2013 Jags performance does not reveal any useful information either way. People should stop trying to draw correlations between the two franchises (clubs) on the field.

Just out of interest what is a free agency and what are draft picks?

Simple.

Free Agency is similar to a 'Bosman'.  A player is signed when out of contract from his last team.

Draft Picks - in the NFL, US College and University players "feed" the professional league. NFL teams "draft" college players each year. The team that finished last in the league in the previous year, gets to make the first pick, for each round, during the draft for the upcoming season. They then negotiate and sign a contract with that player. Some of the draft picks make the team, others won't as they have to compete with existing members of the team for positions. It's way to help keep the league fair and balanced in terms of talent.
