He is useless in english football. David far superior option to him.

He was adding nothing at all. Disappointing, but I was in favour of giving him a run in this lower division. One incident saw him pass directly to Brum players twice in about ten seconds. He just doesn't seem to have a footballing head on his shoulders when he turns out for us. Perhaps he has to go to another club and be wonderful there where every other player feeds him with goalscoring chances.

as long as we keep on hoooofing the ball forward he will be lost ,
pass and move is the way forward. first half he was the only bit of quality we had.

I thought he played ok first half, he needs room to operate and this (ridiculous) narrow diamond that we're so intent on playing doesnt suit him at all.

Play him with some quick wingers to stretch the opposition and give him room and he'd thrive

I wasn't able to watch the match so can't give an opinion. However, after spending the last 45 minutes reading everyone's comments,  have no idea how Ruiz played. Half talk about skill and quality passing and the other half talk about him being light weight & slow.

Odd game, football. I guess beauty IS in the eye of the beholder.

In prior appearances, I sort of liken him to Berbatov. About 85 minutes of nothing spiced with the occasional flash of brilliance.
Its not that I could and others couldn't.
Its that I did and others didn't.

Our only wingers are teens.....and they're all right sided. We're not built (thanks to Magath, I assume) for wing play but for overlapping fullbacks/wingbacks. The problem with pouring our backs forward is that we haven't been defensively organized enough to take that risk. We've got good players but, this is a poorly constructed roster. We're just not that tactically flexible IMHO.

Quite a few people agree, myself included but any Ruiz bashing is extremely frowned upon on here. Just not cut out for the English game.

I was thinking on Wednesday that we needed David in the second half. He seems to be more direct and pacey with his running and will thread little balls through the eye of a needle. Ruiz slows us down still and takes the safe option with the pass.

I thought he had a good first half, worked hard and tracked back like I've never seen before. He was really trying (standard cries of "yes, he's very trying" and "not hard enough"). Some superb touches as well.

I watched the whole game and considering he was supposed to be the main creative person in the
team, if anyone can remind me of a single earth shattering attacking pass I'll eat my words,
I've got "my words" written on a piece of paper on the table.
It can't be blamed on Hugo or McCormack because they did run the channels and charge about
giving opportunities to thread the ball through or over their defence.
VERY DAFT AND A LOT DAFTER THAN I SEEM, SOMETIMES

I'm sorry he may not be the greatest in the world to you but to call him useless is pretty stupid.  You know who's useless? Mark Fotheringham and Gabor Kiraly.

We try to play through a crowded midfield when it would be easier to spread play. Do that and Ruiz will have targets to aim for.

Probably rightly Kit is trying to make us defensively more solid with runners and harrassers in midfield. Doesn't suit Bryan.

MJG

Woodrow pass to Hugo that put him through is exactly what Ruiz should be doing.... But he doesn't

It's Just one game, he's been back for only 3 games and played really well the game before this, some of you need to calm down, he will come good.. Football fans are fickle blimey!

the problem is he may have a nice touch but he is way off the pace of the game and does not influence what is happening. i barely noticed him in the second half... chris david is who should start and let ruiz come on as sub.

Max Headroom

My issue with Ruiz is his defensive work. He never closes people down. Good on the ball today and kept possession well. But also never runs into space.

On Tuesday when he went off we played better. Ditto today.

I think he is a luxury player who we can't have on the pitch when we are up against it. Sorry.

I think he is a nice guy, but not convinced. Would rather have someone that runs and tackles and closes people down David or Williams or Roberts.

Kit had two wingers on the bench if he'd thought it appropriate to bring them on but I think he was trying to get a point minimum so playing it a little safe by staying narrow.

It amazes me that to the pro Ruiz fans that under now 4 , yes, 4 managers, it is the system that does not suit him. Well I am sorry, I have no axe to grind but on his performances since he has been here he will never cut it. Not his fault he is just not suited to English football, to many frailties.
Watching the ups and downs since 1958, wouldn't have it any other way, what a roller coaster of a club.
