Fulham make new offer for Brentford's Tarkowski

HITC Sport understands Fulham have made a new bid for Brentford defender James Tarkowski.

Fulham have launched an improved offer for Brentford's James Tarkowski as they look to bolster their defensive options before the close of the transfer window.

Fulham have made a new centre-back one of their top targets this summer and have been linked with moves for the likes of Brighton's Lewis Dunk, Wolverhampton Wanderers' Richard Stearman and Sheffield Wednesday stopper Tom Lees.

Tarkowski is also among Fulham's top targets and Brentford rejected a bid of £1.75million for the 22-year-old earlier this summer.

Takowski has impressed at Brentford since joining the club from Oldham in January 2014, helping the club win promotion to the Championship in his first season and reach the play-off semi-finals last term.

Brentford are reluctant to lose Tarkowski, but Fulham have tested their resolve again by tabling a bid in the region of £3million as they aim to make some progress in search of defensive reinforcements.

Only Blackpool had a worst defensive record than Fulham last season and Symons knows he must improve his defence if they are to challenge for promotion this season.

Seems to be all over twitter. Great news if this deal comes through.

I'd be pleased with Dunk or Tarkowski. Both are young and quality players. Even Ream would be great signing, only thing setting them apart is age, as Ream is nearing 30.

I know I'm being greedy but we should just buy both Dunk and Tarkowski. Our defence would be massively improved

Both long contracts with large buy out clauses

Knowing us, we'll end up with both.

Knowing us, we'll end up with neither.

Lol so true but yet so painful to accept. I really hope this time is different and we complete a window getting all of our targets

we need to be realistic with Tarkowski though.the bees chairman is one of those rare breeds. He is a fan/fanatic of Brentford, and as such as Fulham fans would you sell one of your best to a local rival? I can't ser this one happening

Interested to see what happens with Tim Ream & Lewis Dunk. #FFC had been confident of getting both deals done

Though it wouldn't necessarily surprise me to see us sign two centre backs this summer, it would surprise me to see us sign two that wish to play on the same side of the defence. We saw with Brede Hangeland that you can't just shuffle around like it's nothing, it's requires a huge adaption in terms of how you defend, the angles you make up, how you press and how you tackle. Maybe Tarkowski could take to the right hand side like a duck to water, but you can't blame me for being wary given the failure of trying pushing Brede Hangeland to the right to bring in the left footed Fernando Amorebieta - Brede suffered from it.

Fulham's chances of landing Brentford defender James Tarkowski have been dealt a big blow after an injury to Andreas Bjelland.

The Danish international joined the Bees for a club-record fee in the summer from FC Twente, but limped off on his debut in Tuesday night's League Cup drubbing against Oxford.

Bjelland went to see a specialist this afternoon, who confirmed the 27-year-old had suffered serious ligament damage that is likely to rule him out for the rest of the season.
That leaves Marinus Dijkhuizen with just three fit centre-backs, with Brentford unlikely to cash in on Tarkowski, who has been targeted by their west London rivals.

The Cottagers are also interested in Brighton defender Lewis Dunk.

I despair with the whinging and panicking of certain fans. The windows not shut yet, plenty of time to do business, we don't know the ins and outs of dealings inside the club, we don't have the current accounts to peruse...we seem to know that our top target is Dunk. Maybe plan B C or D was Tim Ream and we didn't fancy it that much other than as an extra cheaper option. Maybe Hutchs form has put that idea on hold, who knows?! But throwing your toys about and crying farce at the club seems frankly ridiculous. We did alot of our business very early, there have been interviews with our manager saying they are well aware of our frailties in defence lastseason and that it's being addressed and yet...Impatient whining and hysteric wailing all over he place. Grow up, chill out and let it play out, save ya moaning and negative energy for the end of the window to see if no one is in and if by 10 games in our defence is still as leaky as before then moan till your heart is content. What's farcicle is the spoilt fans on here whinging about spending millions of another mans money without even knowing the intentions or accounts or restrictions involved- the mind truly boggles.

All valid points.

Brede also suffered from Amorebieta being a massive pile if sh!t.

I'd be happy with Tarkowski and Hutchinson at CB till January if we can't get both. Hutchinson will have to prove himself this year and I think he'll do just that. He had a good game against Wycombe and I can see him carrying on that form this season. If we truly want to push for promotion I feel we will need 2 CB's though.

FPT

Phil Cadden, a sports reporter for the Sun, has tweeted:

"Fulham have made improved £4m bid for Brentford's James Tarkowski. Bees reluctant to sell following serious injury to Andreas Bjelland."

JackyFulham90

Still feel we need a striker if McCormack gets injured I see any top 6 hopes we had fade very quickly. Surprised we not in for Dwight Gayle if ge going for £6m considering his age & pace

ffc73

We maybe in for Gayle but also I think we are wanting to spend our money on areas, eg CB, that require more immediate reinforcements

Obviously time will tell if we get any more quality into the defence &/or attack before the window shuts or all the rumours turn out to be just that, rumours

Twig

Reflecting back on this close season I think we have taken huge steps not just to improve the squad but, at least as important, to balance it.  I know that some, Ben especially, have argued with some merit that across the back 4 we are weaker (I am personally not sure about that), but if we make one good CB signing then I will look back on a decent summer. If we also strengthen the strike force then that would be beyond my wildest expectations of 3 mths ago.  So come on AM, Rigg, Kit, Khan et al, complete the jigsaw and we can be genuine challengers!

GloucesterWhite

To all those who say don't moan at the lack of defensive reinforcements until the window closes, how are you going to feel if we finish 7th, one point off the play-offs? Spending earlier could have made all the difference.
