Neither Hugill or Robinson are worth 6 or 4 mill respectively and I think that is why Fulham shop abroad and why I am glad we do so.

If they're part of the puzzle that get us up then they are indeed worth 6 or 4 million. Fees are judged end of season not day of, imo. Some say not worth it now, but if we pay 4 million for Robinson and he scores 12 goals in a promotion season, surely that's "worth" it?
if we pay 6 million for Hugill the leagues gone crazy
surely the league went crazy when we turned down 20 million for cairney. Forgetting some of of players Newcastle sold straight after relegation, has any other championship player been sold for 20 mil or above?

We didn't turn down 20m, we priced him at a ridiculous level to basically tell them to get lost.

No, Slavisa confirmed that Newcastle had bid £20 million for him and we had turned it down in an interview with Serbian media.

Reporter: Tom Cairney really impressed this season. The guy 'knows football'.

Slavisa: Yes, he's good. Benitez wanted him, they offered 20m, but we didn't let him go. He's not a player for Newcastle's system, Fulham is the place for him. When the team's in trouble here the ball always goes to him for keeping, over there he wouldn't even see it. When the ball can't reach him then we're in big trouble. He's physically inferior, doesn't recover the ball well and weak defensively.

A link to a story in English, had someone translate the bits that were in Serbian from the original source for the above quote to make sure it wasn't bullpoo.

Of course footballs gone crazy, we all know that. But if we want to have any chance of getting promotion, your going have to expect to pay over the odds sometimes, if we want a player that can swell the the light thin squad we already have.
It's swings and roundabouts.
We have already got niggling injuries preventing players from playing. Now Kallas no doubt will serve a suspension, what next is round the corner waiting for us.
Two and a half weeks left of the transfer window. I hope the club are pulling out all the stops. With Leeds and Wednesday coming up this week, there is no respite.
So far under the circumstances the team have done well in the three games so far this season, considering everything, and others have dropped points.
Nevertheless, we cannot get away from the fact although we are unbeaten, we have still dropped 4 precious points, admittedly against opponents that will also fancy their chances.
However, we cannot hide from the fact that the next two matches are also difficult, we need wins soon, and we need reinforcements, before we commence discussing the next player who gets injured or sent off.
It will not go away by the club burying its head in the sand.
Its not the man in the fight, it's the fight in the man.  🐘

agree paying over the odds but 6 million for Hugill is not over the odds that's way  way over the odds

Of course it's way over the odds, and could even be way way over the odds. But in the absence of another remedy or a better idea, and taking into consideration the money the club have wasted over the years on mediocre players, what's new.

I get your point woolly but it comes to plain stupidity if you pay that much for a bang average (at best) player (mind you I wasn't sold on McBride at first (wasn't the only one though) lol).

Newcastle close to signing Joselu a Spanish forward.

Could it mean anything as far as Rolan goes? Still feel like there's another twist to come in the saga.

I will find out tomorrow, but I tend to agree. I've said for the last week I think Rolan is more likely than Waris

And the Fonte story gathers speed....... or does it? Old story?

http://soccersouls.com/2017/08/14/who-is-this-9million-former-arsenal-forward-that-fulham-are-chasing-heres-everything-you-need-to-know/

Scout Report – Rui Fonte
Fulham are still chasing a striker and may well have given up on self-important Diego Rolan, quite rightly in my view. They have however been told to stump up £9million for Braga man Rui Fonte, who is the latest subject of their overtures and here is what we know about the Portuguese forward to date.

History
Born in Penafiel, Portugal, Fonte started his youth football career back in 1998 at Sacavenense before being picked up by Sporting Lisbon.

An impressive 7 years with the Portuguese giants brought him to the attention of English Premier League side Arsenal, where he landed in 2006, though he never managed a first team appearance. He was given 10 first team games by Crystal Palace though while on loan, without scoring a goal.

Having returned to Portugal with Sporting, he was sent out on loan once again, this time to Vitoria Setubal but once more, he did not score and failed to truly establish himself. He had more success in Spain with Espanyol's B team, netting 8 times in 22 games but he could not replicate that in their first team as he yet again drew a blank in an 11-game spell in 2010/11.

Two years spent at the Catalan club resulted in just one goal in the league before a free transfer back to Portugal beckoned, with Fonte signing for Benfica and joining up with their B team.

Although still a slow-burner, things are going much better now and Fonte finally planted his flag last term playing for Braga, scoring 14 goals in 31 domestic games for the club and seeing his transfer value suddenly sky rocket.

Style Of Play
Fonte is tall and rangy but does not always need to play in an out-and-out number nine position. He can play just as comfortably as a second striker but now that he has found his goal touch it would be no surprise to see him want to play as a centre-forward more often.

A decent finisher, Fonte has now matured and does not need so many chances to score a goal, though Fulham's open, attacking style would suit him down to the ground.

Fonte's Future
He is 27 now and doesn't have more than four or five years of top class football ahead of him, though he is one who can take advantage, now that he has finally matured into a rounded footballer. A big money move is surely there for him. If that move is to Fulham, he would probably jump at the chance to go.

It's equivalent of telling a team the player is priceless. Cairney is worth more than that if he gets us promoted.

I would be delighted to sign Wilson - but it sounds like he is on his way to Hull or WBA...

Would that be the Joe Bennett who was taken to the cleaners by Ryan Fredericks in our F.A. Cup tie last season?
