Good Point Aurthur . Dont understand why people keep saying we are not improved on last season. its all about the squad.
We now have possible cover for Cairney,Mac and Johansen (something we fortunately didnt need last season ). We Lost Malone  but retained Sessingnon on a new contract (if things had gone the other way I would have been a lot more worried).
We also now have a striker who wants it, whatever abillity he may or may not have.
Lets not forget that improvement is about having more options in how we can play as well as the best starting eleven.
What Will prove to improve us on last season is the continuity factor. The Signs were there to see on saturday that forward steps have been taken in our play.(ok we need more killer instinct to see games out,but Jokanociv will clearly be working on that, and its not something linked to individuals anyway ,but our collective desire)
Not much more is needed to improve us further IMO. A forward of class and a left back/ left Centre back are also needed.
A class goalkeeper would be the icing on the cake for me as well if I am being greedy.
I dont believe its for the want of trying that these players are not already in place.

I may have missed some things, but aside from Middlesbrough splurging their parachute payment and Wolves persuading Neves to 'drop down' to the Championship in unique circumstances, how many other Championship clubs have signed anybody who has provoked the sort of outcry or reaction on here that 'he would have been ideal for us'?

Regardless of what has been possible in previous years, the story of this summer's transfer window suggests that the number of high-quality players who are prepared to join a club in this league has, up to now, been very limited indeed.

Well last weekend at the cottage I saw an excellent new left back who only cost £1m, Husband, but unfortunately he was playing for Norwich. The new Bristol City striker from
The French league, whose record is at least as good as Waris', Rolan's and Kamara's, also scored on his debut. Technically Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday also signed Janssen and Rhodes this summer. That's in addition to those you mention mention and I'm sure among the other more obscure names that have moved there will be several that are high quality. I knew nothing about Ayite when we signed him.

Husband played crap though?

Bottom line is we still haven't actually improved our chances by signing anyone who will take us closer to promotion.  :bang head:
kamara looks better than Martin to me so I'd say he improves our chances

Apples and oranges.

I am treating Kamara as replacement for Smith and Cyriac. They took 45 and 125 minutes to score their first goal in their respective half seasons. Kamara has had 117 mins so far so let's see how it goes at the weekend.

I'm still looking forward to us signing a proper replacement for Martin.

I believe we will be playing differently this year, don't think we will be always looking for the hold up player, so maybe it will be another speedster as we will then have fluid movement on the front 3

maybe a hold up player as an option for some games but mainly the quicker players

Its a squad game and we have improved our  squad with at least  three possible starters that we didnt have last year(Norwood ,Cisse and Kamara). Not saying they are better than our present starting Line up but they improve us quite a bit none-the-less,and give us other options which we have not had before. We can play with KMAC and Cisses at the end of games to Shore things up if need be for example.

Have to disagree about a CF-type - believe one is needed though no rumours of any interest in one. For the life of me I cannot fathom why we sold Smith in January. Gave us something different & frightened defences - A1 squad player to have available. I may be old-fashioned but I believe a big guy up top is an enhancement or at very least an alternative for us.

I believe we need one as an option, for me we need another speedy player and a hold up man. As for smith don't think he scared anyone other than Betts when he was with us.

I think he must have scared SJ as well - he seems to like mobility

I agree with your observations.
Although I also agree with the pace of the new additions over the last 12 months. We have that in abundance, which will also stand us in good stead.

Not sure why so many people rate Husband, he just an average championship left back, he got ripped apart in the first half on Saturday, maybe a good squad player but a starter in the way we play now.

Think husband is ok but thats all,as for a big hold up player up front not sure i think we are keeping no 9 shirt for another striker but hold up player dont know.

@jolslover

How anyone can rate Smith is beyond me, The lads touch was dreadful, had very little technical ability and would be rendered useless by the way we play now as he was only effective if the ball was lumped up to his head.

True. He chose the wrong career- should have been a security guard

I liked Smith - seemed like a nice bloke - but agree with this assessment of his footballing ability.

We don´t need a "hold up player" , we need a get up & go player. Slowing the game up is not our style.

Disagree we don't need a hold up player. We just need a more mobile Martin to allow time for the likes of Cairney/Johnsson to get into final third. We have the lieks of Ayite/Aluko who will naturally be there quicker but its layered in attack which works for us.

How is this different from your last story about Fonte?
