If Hughes or whoever will not let Matty Targett go, then what about a cheeky bid for Luke Shaw from Manchester Utd on loan for the season from Manchester Utd. He is out of contract at the end of the season and if he plays well for us Utd might offer him a new contract. If not he could talk to us from January. A win-win for both clubs and what a back four we could have with fantasctic back-up!

KJS

Not convinced about Shaw but a change of club could be exactly what he needs.

Luke Shaw has to be better than anyone else we currently have.

That's really not saying much

I would sign him. Imagine back four with Chambers as a rb, Mawson as a cb, Shaw as a lb and Ream/Le Marchand it doesn't matter. That would be three young Englishmen in our back four - wouldn't that be amazing!

Mince n Tatties

We need to put Targett to bed,Hughes has said twice now nobody is leaving..
No chance of getting Shaw either.

In the Enclosure

Totally agree? Think he is also another ex local lad Walton / Webridge? And ex Southampton. Is he getting near the side at Man Utd?

Milo

I think Rose would be better value for money as he's apparently available.

Have posted exactly this on the silly season summer transfer thread.
An England International and someone with Prem experience

Yes it most certainly would.

Shaw is available too if I'm not mistaken and I know that last summer they wanted £20 million for him. Now that he is in his last year of contract I think he would be even a bit cheaper. But if they cost the same, I would pick Rose too.

BernieBoy

No chance of signing Rose although he's apparently available. He was valued at £50m last summer and linked to go to United. Wants to move back North, so can't see him moving across London to play for a side not in the Champions League and he's got a 2/3 years left on his contract, so wouldn't be cheap.

Also cannot see Shaw as United lack options for left back and unless they buy he will stay. Both Shaw and Rose would be on huge wages and still command big fees!

if we are going to go big we may as well invest in Tierney and his wages would be half that of those two and probably a similar or smaller fee.

General

Shame Mawson isn't fit as he and chambers have experience playing together

Would be great but I agree..we have spent big, but there is a limit.  Wages would be too much for Rose and I suspect Shaw also.

Perhaps not but it doesn't seem to have registered with the recruitment team for over a year.....

I almost choke on my early morning cup of tea whenever I read about how Christie was purchased to cover the loss of Fredericks, a belated admission of an earlier mistake made by the recruitment team selling Scott Malone without engaging suitable cover (and please do no regale me with 'but we had RS retorts').  I still find chagrin with such a pretentious action by people who really should be much better schooled in how to make a football club move forward with intent.  What is worse is that it is taking an age to put matters right and it is effectively going to cost much more than was necessary to correct it simply because panic caused by delay to correct a fault generates its own almighty problems.

Gosh, you do use big words...  So why was Christie being signed for Fred anything other than an astute move ?   We could easily be a Championship club still and Christie would surely be more than good enough.  If we had failed to get promotion, the money would have gone and we would have had to sell Cairney and Probably Sess, so getting Christie was an excellent piece of business.

Yes, left back has been a challenge, we clearly want Targett but Soutampton making this one difficult.  We have meanwhile been connected to many many other left backs but you can't force them to come.

The tone of your post suggest you are unhappy with Fulham's recruitment which I frankly find amazing.  Of course it's not 100% perfect, but very close to that.   Tell me another window in our history that's even close to this one in terms of quality additions in critical areas ?

We are all entitled to our opinions and you are clearly a smart Fulham man, I just don't agree at all with your seemingly negative view on this close seasons action by the club.  I think Tosh would agree with me as well.

You make some excellent observations and I concur.
I still live in hope that the club has a cunning plan, and we purchase a decent left back in time added on.
But it's not ideal and so unnecessary, and the sands of time are running low, don't they ever learn.
Because if we fail to bring in a quality left back, and let's face it, we have known since the evening of the 25th May, that's about ten weeks ago, it will leave us ham strung, and forces Jok to play a square peg in a round hole, because playing Sess there is counter productive and a waste of good talent, and MLM maybe as a stop gap, but not what Jok was planning for giving his system of play.
That is why I am still telling myself surely Fulham will not allow themselves to fail on this one.
But they are living dangerously, so maybe they have got something up theirs sleeve, and I hope it's an ace as opposed to a joker.
