Are we kidding ourselves

in believing we can stay up? With key players coming back for other teams in the relegation fight, are our survival dreams realistic? 049:gif 049:gif 049:gif

No,  we can do it if we are consistent I'm not kidding! 049:gif 049:gif 049:gif 049:gif

"Doc, I've got a cricket ball stuck up my backside
"How's that?"
"Don't you start"

We're probably going to have to average over a point per game to stay up, which is a tough ask. We'll know if it will be possible after the next 3 games. 7 points needed at minimum I think.

We have every reason to be positive for now. My main concern is whether we are going to score enough goals.

No we are not, but some are kidding themsevles on how good they think we are.
Its going to be tough but we should just do it and maybe even without the Newcastle game being required.
But make no mistake its on a knife edge and still going to have some ups and dopwns over these last 9 games for us.
Just the views of a long term fan

And, in a strange way, it was probably not a bad thing that we had that disastrous 15 minutes against Man City to reinforce the need to be on our game at all times.
The world is made up of electrons, protons, neurons, possibly muons and, definitely, morons.

We need to learn how to score twice in one game. If we can figure that I'd back our defence to make sure we don't concede more than once.

I don't see it like that. In our last 6 games we scored 3 goals and won two and drew two (and we've played 6 of the top 8 in our last 9 games)

No, the teams around us, if they have had injuries, have still had those players available for most of the season, big weekend ahead, we win, Newcastle lose, we're out of the bottom 3 for the international break, big boost.

Maybe a Newcastle draw would be better

I still believe.  We are the best footballing side in the lower half of the table and have taken points off a number of top teams. My only fear is we cannot score, there are too many players with no goals to their name or play in positions where I would expect to see several by now. Need to get a bit more brave in front of goal, possibly hitting the target more often and shooting earlier.

filham

It is in the balance but we are in with a chance of survival.

1. We have a major problem scoring goals, only one in the last four games, we need goals for wins.

2.We have a very good defense and should get clean sheets in some of the remaining games.

3. All players, except Cairney are match fit. An injury to Andersen or Tosin would hurt us badly but we have good cover for other positions.

4. If Mitro could find his form and if Parker would give him starts he could be our saviour.

5. The return of fans for that final match against Newcastle could turn out to be vital.

6. Parker is street wise and adjust tactics  to suit opponents, we are in good hands.

Bamford is a doubt for Leeds. He always scores against us.

FFC In Oz

Our problem is scoring goals at home.

What have we got - 8 at the Cottage all season?

Nowhere near good enough.

Coming up against the likes of Leeds, Wolves, Burnley & Newcastle at home in the run in we will need to do a lot better than that.

colinwhite

If there is one thing we have learned about this season is that we have adeveloping team. we will score the goals needed I believe.

Woolly Mammoth

Forget what happened v Man City although that 15 minute spell at the start of the second half is warning that we cannot take our eye off the ball for one second, although it was Man City after all and will punish any errors or lack of concentration.
All I am worried about is our lack of scoring goals especially 2 or more because we cannot expect to keep a clean sheet in every match.
Its not the man in the fight, it's the fight in the man.  🐘

So then would you agree we need to play 442 with maja and mitro up front Mr Woolly?

I don't think there is a guarantee but there is hope and where there is hope there is a good chance

I don't think we are totally kidding ourselves, there is a chance for survival.  The way I look at it right now is that it is a real long shot for FFC to stick.  Real long.  Our achilles heel all season long has been not being clinical enough with final third opportunities.  Simple as that.  And I don't see how that changes overnight or during these final nine games.  Believe me, I hope it does change, and one or two players step forward and become heroes of sorts.  But I'm not holding my breath.  Every game will be pins and needles....

Edit...haha, spelling correction
