Just been announced that Jimmy Greaves has died. Great partner for Haynes when playing for England.

Fulham1959

One of the very, very best - an instinctive goalscorer.

On today's pitches, who knows how many more goals he would have scored . . .

RIP Jimmy - you've gone to meet the Saint(s).

RIP Jimmy.  One of the best players I've ever seen.
The world is made up of electrons, protons, neurons, possibly muons and, definitely, morons.

Great player with a great sense of humour. RIP Greavsie. Cap doffed Sir.

Rip Jimmy. Best quote I remember from him was when he was asked how he always got room in the box, he answered simple as soon as the player marking me looks to the ball I move.
Watching the ups and downs since 1958, wouldn't have it any other way, what a roller coaster of a club.

MartyFFC

Very sad. Used to love watching Saint & Greavsie on a Saturday afternoon

Early '65.....at the Cottage I remember him picking up the ball on the halfway line and running through Fulham to score at the Putney end..a brilliant solo goal.

......luckily we had already scored four in a famous victory over Spurs !!

RIP Jimmy.

I echo Ron's reflection. What a scorer and what a character. What a partnership for England he was with Johnny Haynes. RIP Jimmy. Thanks for the memories.

Southcoastffc

In his prime, 157 games for Chelsea yielded 124 goals and at Spurs 478 games brought 344 goals.  Phenomenal.

There ll never be another quite that sharp he was a sheer pleasure to watch except when playing against us. RIP sharp shooter.
1975 just leaving home full of hope

filham

He made it look so easy and just has to be the greatest goal scorer most of us have ever seen.
Haynes and Greaves together was a pure joy to watch.
RIP Jimmy Greaves.

Ruislip Ray

Simply the greatest English goalscorer ever!

gang

Remember the game against Spurs when Tony Macedo was feigning a throw and dropped the ball at Greaves feet with the obvious result.

Fernhurst

Feel sorry for those not lucky enough to see him perform.
He said once he couldn't get back in the England team after The Maestro had his accident. "Johnny was the only player to think (as quick) like me".

Huge part of my life growing up. RIP Jimmy and condolences to you family.
The atmosphere's fresh and the debate lively.

It really was a funny old game with Saint and Greavsie. Rest In Peace

Dodgin

Lucky to have seen Jimmy quite a few times and can smile about Macedo giving him the ball back in the sixties. RIP

St Eve

The best English striker ever. RIP Jimmy

Woolly Mammoth

Greatest Goalscorer I have ever seen, he was scoring for fun at a time before the tackle from behind was outlawed and on quagmire pitches that resembled a cabbage patch.
Rest in peace Jimmy a true English Legend.
Its not the man in the fight, it's the fight in the man.  🐘

Never forget your Roots.

Very Sad of course, but fitting that Chelsea Vs Spurs is on such a day.

My thoughts in a nutshell. Feel privileged to have seen him play in his prime
