Bale is right up there with potentially great players who've thrown away their talent and opportunity.

I genuinely don't understand this comment. There have been dozens of hyper talented players over the years that have failed to produce. Ravel Morrison is one that springs to mind in the last decade, but there are many examples. Gareth Bale has had an outstanding career. See his honours list below. Could he have achieved more? Perhaps, if he had stayed injury free, but Johnny Haynes could have been the World Cup winning captain had he been injury free, and his list of career achievements is not a patch on Bale's.

The only way Bale has underachieved or wasted talent, is if you consider he should have been Messi/Ronaldo I guess. Not exactly a strong argument but hey.

Of course in my eyes he is no Tosh Chamberlin but I expect his bank balance is bigger.

I was referring t the fact that he appears to have been happy to sit on the bench (or even miss out on a spot on the bench) through most of his seasons at Madrid.  The honours he has "won" there have been mainly as a squad member, little more.  Yes he is earning mega bucks, but for such a talented player in his prime years I would have thought he would have wanted to play for a club where he was a first choice pick not an afterthought.

I had similar thoughts when we signed George Best but I will never forget that season, he was just magnificent.

How the hell has a transfer thread turned into a tread about Gareth Bale?

What's even more bonkers is that some wouldn't want him at Fulham. The guy would be a game changer for us.

There is no comparison, George Best was no big time charlie like Bale, far from it.
Best played before the tackle from behind was outlawed and the pitches were mud heaps and cabbage patches, in fact the main difference was that he played against men. Whereas these days you cannot tackle anybody anymore and Bale has played in an era where falling over as soon as an opponent says boo without feeling any shame appears to represent the generations of big girls blouses football is continuing to breed in the 21st Century.

So between the pair, i know who i would choose 10 times out of 10.

I agree. Time to move on.

The Rational Fan

It's a waste to spend all our money on Gareth Bale, over the next couple of seasons whether promoted or not we need to bring in long-term replacements for Odoi, Ream, Kongolo, Mawson, Seri, Cairney, Kebano and Reid.

I think we all recognise it would not be money well spent. We definitely need to move on.

Any new rumours anyone?

Cardiff C/F will keep Mitro Buzzed up great option chasing a goal.

AJW48361

We need a promotion winning signing! if Silva wants that player the club must deliver. He seems to like the Swansea lad.

That is the answer to the question. What we need in this window is not just another squad player who will give the manager more options and squad depth but a real game changer.

Agree on your Best/Bale comparison but when Best came to us we thought he was motivated by the thought of an easy ride with a good pay packet. He then provided us with a display of great entertaining football and gave the team a real spark. We now have similar thoughts about Bale, again we could be wrong, he could turn into a promotion clincher.

We have Kongolo, Merson and Hector all fit at the moment and ready to slip into Tosin's place and perhaps the cash received could be used on a quality wide left player.
However our back four are performing well and no way should they be disturbed. Offer West Ham one of the other three.
