View: Leeds United must make late move for Fabio Carvalho

Leeds United surely have to make a move now for Fulham talent Fabio Carvalho.

According to reports from Sky Sports who shared the news on transfer centre feed (30 January; 14:57), Liverpool have submitted a £5m bid for the highly-rated teenager.

The Reds have already secured the signing of Colombian international Luis Diaz, and it seems, they are after the exciting youngster.

Earlier this month, The Sun reported that Leeds United and West Ham are vying for the signature of the 19-year-old whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

Carvalho is yet to put pen to paper, and Fulham would be open to selling him if they receive a good offer.

It was reported that Fulham would accept an offer in the region of £5m, and Liverpool have offered exactly that.

Leeds should make a cheeky move and present a better offer to snap him up.

The attacking midfielder has scored seven goals and provided assists this season.

Blessed with excellent technical abilities and an eye for goal, he has got tremendous potential to be a top player.

Leeds are looking to add a creative midfielder to their ranks, and they've been linked with Takumi Minamino [Liverpool Echo]. It's not clear that Liverpool would allow him to leave this month.

With time running out, a late move for Carvalho would spice things up.

It has been an uninspiring window so far for Leeds, but they can change the mood with some signings on the deadline day.

Liverpool Reportedly Offering Buy And Loan Back Deal For Fabio Carvalho

Michael Edwards and Julian Ward are said to be getting creative to seal the deal for the 19 year old Fulham attacking player

Things are happening quickly as Liverpool look to seal a deal with Fulham for Fabio Carvalho. It has been reported for quite a while now that Liverpool have been interested in the 19 year old attacking player who is considered one of the brightest prospects in the UK.

Earlier today, news broke that Liverpool were putting in a £5M bid for the player despite him only having six months left on his current contract. Multiple sources are now reporting that Julian Ward and Michael Edwards are looking to get creative to make the deal happen, and are sweetening the pot by including a loan back to Fulham for the rest of the season.

This may seem like a lot of trouble to go through for a young player with a short time left before being able to move on a free transfer, but Liverpool have learned from past experiences that it can be easier and less expensive in the long run to do a little extra up front to get a deal done than have to deal with a tribunal.

Twice in recent history have Liverpool had to endure protracted legal battles to determine the training compensation paid to previous clubs. Liverpool were required to send Burnley £8 million for Danny Ings, and then were ordered to pay Fulham £4.3million when Harvey Elliott moved to the Reds on a free transfer in 2019.

Fulham's £42m conveyor belt of talent is inspiration for Liverpool target Fabio Carvalho

With Liverpool eyeing up a deal for Fulham sensation Fabio Carvalho, the teenager can take inspiration from the young stars who have left the club before him and moved on to bigger things

Fabio Carvalho looks set to become the latest star from Fulham 's conveyor belt of talent to move on to bigger things amid reports Liverpool have entered talks for the teenage sensation.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Championship 's runaway leaders so far this campaign, netting seven strikes in 19 outings for the Cottagers.

Having closely monitored the hotshot in recent months, the Reds are being widely reported to have now submitted a bid in the region of £5million as they attempt to snap up the attacker before Monday's transfer deadline.

Should Carvalho move on to pastures new, he would become the latest in a long line of talent produced at Fulham to depart the club, and the player will surely draw inspiration from the success of those who have gone before him.

Moussa Dembele, Ryan Sessegnon and Harvey Elliott are arguably the three standout names to have progressed through the west London side's prestigious academy in recent years and their value has since soared.

According to Transfermarkt, their combined worth currently stands at a total of £42m, with Dembele valued at £15.3m and both Sessegnon and Elliott priced at £13.5m apiece.

Though it remains to be seen whether Carvalho's name will be added to the Fulham exodus, the club will surely be keen to avoid history repeating itself having ultimately lost Dembele and Elliot for a fraction of their current worth.

The Fulham midfielder's current contract expires at the end of this season, leaving the club with a difficult decision to make: sell one of their prized assets for a mere £5m this month or run the risk of losing him for pittance in the summer.

Should Carvalho fail to sign a new deal at Craven Cottage, his next club would be expected to pay a compensation fee in the summer, a figure likely to be far less than the offer currently tabled by Jurgen Klopp's Reds.

The compensation route is one that Fulham will know all too well having lost Dembele to Celtic in 2016 for a mere £500,000 after he refused to renew his contract and Elliott to Liverpool three years later for a total fee of £4.3m after he signed his first professional deal at Anfield.

West Ham look set to miss out on exciting target Fabio Carvalho as Liverpool swoop in with bid

West Ham look set to miss out on exciting target Fabio Carvalho as Liverpool swoop in with bid according to widespread reports.

Talented winger-cum-wide forward Carvalho has been a revelation for Fulham in the Championship this season and has reportedly attracted the attention of both West Ham and Liverpool.

The 19-year-old has scored seven goals and laid on four assists in 18 appearances and also has a brilliant average match rating of 7.28 (WhoScored).

Carvalho is out of contract at Fulham at the end of the season, meaning either West Ham or Liverpool could stand to get the exciting youngster for a paltry tribunal fee if they wait until the summer.

But West Ham and Liverpool have been linked with bids of around £5m this month to secure Carvalho's services before then.

The Hammers had looked like they might have the edge over Liverpool in the race for the Lisbon-born England youth international.

West Ham look set to miss out on exciting target Fabio Carvalho as Liverpool swoop in with bid

A recent report from The Sun claimed a boardroom beef between Fulham and Liverpool over Harvey Elliott meant David Moyes may have a chance of beating Jurgen Klopp to the young star.

There appears to be bad news for West Ham this evening, though, as widespread reports from the likes of The Athletic, This Is Anfield and The Liverpool Echo state Liverpool have swooped to make an official offer to Fulham for Carvalho.

"Liverpool are looking to do a deal with Fulham to sign Fabio Carvalho before the transfer window closes," The Liverpool Echo reports.

"The Reds are one of several clubs who have been keeping tabs on the England youth international during a campaign that has seen him register eight times in 17 games for Marco Silva's Championship leaders.

"Carvalho is out of contract in the summer and the ECHO understands Liverpool are looking to bring him to Anfield before Monday night's 11pm deadline."

West Ham may still have a glimmer of hope as The Echo claims the Reds will "refuse to pay over the odds".

So if West Ham are serious about landing Carvalho they may be able to trump Liverpool with a more attractive offer.

The money certainly seems to be there at West Ham right now if weekend reports linking the world and its wife with moves to east London are anything to be believed.

Who is Fabio Carvalho? Here's everything you need to know about Fulham's teenage sensation

Fulham star Fabio Carvalho is wanted by big clubs, including Liverpool – FFT editor, James Andrew, gives the lowdown on the starlet

Fulham star Fabio Carvalho is one of the most talked-about young players not just in England – but the whole of Europe. So much so, that Liverpool are chasing the 19-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer.

Carvalho is an attacker who can function on either wing, as a no.10 or up front. He's chipped in with goals and assists as Fulham have charged towards the Premier League and there could yet be a tussle for the youngster at international level, too, given that the England youth star was born in Lisbon, Portugal.

But who exactly is this talent? FourFourTwo editor and resident Fulham fan, James Andrew, explains more...

"There were not many bright moments from Fulham's Premier League campaign last season. But once the inevitable relegation was confirmed, there were a few shards of light. One of the brightest was Fabio Carvalho who played a few games towards the end of the season and looked very impressive - and even scored at Southampton.

"This season, Marco Silva has come in and almost built the team around Carvalho in the attacking midfield role. Although he did have a spell out of the team with injury and illness, when he has played he has made a difference with both goals and assists. He is not the biggest player, but he is strong. Traditionally the rough and tumble of the Championship might not be the league for a slight, creative player to thrive. But Carvalho has shown he is more than up for the fight and happy to take some of the biggest centre backs on head-on.

"At Fulham we have been here before with promising youngsters moving on in recent years - Patrick Roberts, Ryan Sessegnon, Harvey Elliott and Matt O'Reilly - to varying degrees of success.

"There are no guarantees in football, but I believe Carvalho is good enough and will get better with games and age to cut it at the very top of the game. What could work out well for all parties could be an 18-month loan deal back to Fulham to allow Carvalho to continue his development in a familiar environment and - providing Fulham are promoted – have a season in the Premier League.

"Will that happen? Who knows. When there was a suggestion of Sessegnon returning to Craven Cottage following promotion in 2020, the club's Director of Football Tony Khan said 'I can't be in the business of developing other people's players'. Only for Chelsea's Ruben Loftus Cheek to arrive on loan that very summer."

It's not the only uncertainty. Whether or not Carvalho makes the switch to Liverpool remains to be seen, too – but the excitement around him is palpable. It will be intriguing to see what happens next.

Carvalho is a fine player. The midfielder has scored seven goals and registered four assists in 18 Championship appearances this season.

Carvalho has also been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.28 across the 2021-22 Championship campaign.

Therefore, we would like to see the club secure the youngster's services.

One player per Championship club who could still leave in Jan

Liverpool target Fabio Carvalho, Brentford-linked Brennan Johnson and others could yet leave the Championship for new pastures this month.

Barnsley – Callum Styles
We start proceedings with the club bottom of the division. Slim pickings it is, given the big influences behind last season's play-off campaign are long gone from Oakwell, but wing-back Callum Styles has earned plaudits in his time at south Yorkshire, albeit fewer this season. With Barnsley's board accused of only caring about money, he could be a solid seven-figure sale for the Tykes, which can't be said of many of his teammates.

Birmingham City – Ivan Sunjic
Again, there is hardly an abundance of sides above Birmingham eyeing up what Brum have to offer, but Ivan Sunjic is literally a Croatia international midfielder and has been quietly consistent during his time at St. Andrews. A move from lower midtable to upper midtable could present itself in the last days of the window.

Blackburn Rovers – Joe Rothwell
It is looking like Ben Brereton Diaz will get his big move in the summer, so midfielder Joe Rothwell is the outstanding candidate here. Out of contract in the summer, Bournemouth have had bids rejected this month, while Rothwell would improve Brentford's midfield options considerably in the division above. Rothwell was left out of the squad for the game with Luton as boss Tony Mowbray alluded to a potential move on the horizon.

Bournemouth – Lloyd Kelly
The imperious defender has been impressive for Bournemouth since becoming a mainstay of the team, and West Ham are believed to have shown an interest with their need for a centre-back public knowledge.

Blackpool – Josh Bowler
Linked with moves to Fulham and Nottingham Forest this month, winger Josh Bowler has been a revelation for the Seasiders. Having only signed in the summer from Everton's youth setup, Bowler has bowled over second-tier neutrals and fans alike. His ceiling is scarily high.

Bristol City – Antoine Semenyo
Young forward Semenyo has been something of an enigma for so long at Bristol City. The youth product has always had bags of talent but was missing goals. He has rectified that in recent weeks, netting twice against Fulham and then again in the last game of the month against Preston. Bigger and better teams than Bristol City may just take note.

Cardiff City – Kieffer Moore
His time really should have come in the summer. Wolves were the likeliest destination then and they may have some money to play with in the final hours of the window, but Burnley need a Chris Wood replacement and they could do far worse than the Wales international to fill that particular gap.

Coventry City – Simon Moore
Such is the strength of Coventry City's surprisingly good season, there are few standout stars in a team that is far greater than the sum of its parts. Simon Moore has been dependable for the Sky Blues all season and Aston Villa have shown an interest in the 31-year-old to add to their roster of back-ups between the sticks.

Derby County – Tom Lawrence
Derby may not have a choice in this one. Captain Tom Lawrence has seen this season turn into something of a redemption arc on a professional level and is the Rams' most prized asset when it comes to playing staff. Any Championship club would be lucky to have him and Fulham would relish the former Manchester United youngster in their ranks, especially if the similarly talented Fabio Carvalho was to move to the Premier League this month.

Fulham – Fabio Carvalho
And there he is. The young attacking midfielder has taken west London and the Championship by storm, to the point where European giants Liverpool and Bayern Munich have been credited with interest. A summer move may be more likely, but anything can happen.

Huddersfield Town – Lewis O'Brien
Another Championship star to have been linked with a move prior to this window, midfielder O'Brien was on the radar of Leeds in the summer. Rumours have been much quieter this month, but Leeds still need the bodies. Burnley could also make use of the Terrier.

Hull City – Keane Lewis-Potter
Brentford have had bids rejected for the Hull youngster, who is making similar waves on Humberside as potential England international Jarrod Bowen during his time with the Tigers. Having played at wing-back and being more than capable of playing wide in a front three, Lewis-Potter has been Hull's best player since Bowen departed for West Ham a couple of years ago. With his talent now so public, Hull will be hoping they have another youngster on the production line.

Luton Town – Elijah Adebayo
Another youngster taking the second tier by force, Elijah Adebayo has been a revelation for the Hatters, who would be mad to let the striker go for anything other than a crazy sum of money. There have been few links with a move away, but his name will be on many radars already. Luton have an air of Brentford about them; signing players from Kenilworth Road will soon be a guarantee of quality.

Middlesbrough – Marcus Tavernier
Leeds and Newcastle were both believed to have taken an interest in the Middlesbrough winger at the start of the month. Not much more to say on the Boro academy product, who has rarely dominated the Championship, but could be a valuable addition to either of those squads.

Millwall – Jed Wallace
His links to Nottingham Forest and a potential move to Turkey have become regular, but the former are believed to have cooled their interest after a move seemed to be approaching levels of certainty. A free agent in the summer, Wallace may take the next six months to enjoy his Millwall swansong and go from there. But never say never to a January surprise.

Nottingham Forest – Brennan Johnson
Like Lewis-Potter, Brentford have made their interest in Forest superstar Johnson well known, having bids rejected for the winger in both of this season's transfer windows. With seven goals to his name for Steve Cooper's promotion chasers, Forest won't let Johnson go without a fight and may consider the matter closed this month. We are not so certain just yet.

Peterborough United – Siriki Dembele
Slim pickings once more, seeing as very few Peterborough players have given teams better than Posh much to think about. Attacker Dembele was on the transfer list for the opening month of the season, but stayed after helping them pick up some early points. Meh.

Preston North End – Alan Browne
A one-club man to date, Preston's captain has always been a figure of solidity in the middle for the Lilywhites. Very few Preston players have been linked with moves away, but Browne doesn't get enough recognition for just what a good player he is at Championship level, so it's nice we've done that if nothing else.

Queens Park Rangers – Chris Willock
Now we're talking. Joe Willock may have made an eight-figure move from Arsenal to Newcastle in the summer, but it is brother Chris who has been making all the headlines since with a standout and breakout season for Mark Warburton's dark horses. Six goals and seven assists mean he is contributing to a goal more than every other game for the west Londoners.

Reading – John Swift
Not many players can claim to have much pride from the last couple of months at Reading, but John Swift has plenty of credit in the bank from the early parts of this season and many more performances in recent years, too. Without a goal since October and with just two assists since November, Swift still has 19 goal involvements to his name. He will furnish any side he moves to, be it now or in the summer.

Sheffield United – Sander Berge
There were links to Arsenal before his move to Sheffield United, where he regularly occupies a place on the bench. A move abroad may be the most likely outcome for the Norwegian.

Stoke City – Tyrese Campbell
Having sat out the best part of the year with a serious injury, Tyrese Campbell's return to the first-team fold at Stoke has been as exciting as it has frustrating. With talk of Josh Maja adding to the Potters' attacking options, Campbell's talent could be honed better at a lower-table Premier League side or north of the border with previous admirers Celtic or Rangers.

Swansea City – Joel Piroe
Leicester City were linked with the young Dutchman earlier in the season, such is the ease with which Swansea's summer purchase took to the Championship in his first full campaign of senior football. Links have been quieter since the window opened, but there are plenty of top-flight sides who may fancy making his time in south Wales very fleeting indeed.

West Bromwich Albion – Sam Johnstone
Kept out of the last two matchday squads owing to a difference in opinion with head coach Valerien Ismael, the England international may be in a race to leave West Brom quicker than his manager. He certainly has the potential to play in the top flight again, and will not be short of takers. West Ham has been the perennial option.

Liverpool breakthrough in move for £5m Fulham star

Liverpool are closing in on a deal for Fulham star Fabio Carvalho.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder – who has seven goals and four assists for Fulham in the Championship this season – is in the last year of his contract at Craven Cottage, meaning he would be available on a free transfer in the summer.

Fulham boss Marco Silva admitted on Friday Carvalho's "situation is not easy", but claimed he would remain with the club until the summer.

"Fabio will be with us until the end of the season," Silva said. "I would like to see him here for more years.

"From day one I have been trying to keep him. It is not a surprise that clubs are interested in Fabio. We are talking about a young player with big talent.

"The situation is not easy because he is in the last year of his contract, but that is the reality. It is out of our plans for him to leave the club in this window.

"It has been difficult for us to renew with him, but we are trying.

"It is always difficult with a player of this talent – even with a contract it is difficult to keep him, and without it is even worse. But Fabio will be with us until the end of this season."

But journalist Fabrizio Romano now claims talks with Liverpool have 'entered the final stages', with just the structure of the deal left to be discussed.

Romano did add that despite the deal being close, Fulham will ask for Carvalho to be loaned back to them for the rest of the season.

A deal for Watford's Domingos Quina now deemed "unlikely"

The Watford Observer provided an early update today on the Swans interest in Watford's Domingos Quina and stated that any deal for the player to come to SA1 was unlikely but they did not completely rule it out.

It was reported last week that Quina was likely to have his loan spell at Fulham cut short and the Swans were looking at securing a move for him to join up with the team for the second half of the season.

But his morning, in their transfer deadline day blog, the Watford Observer reported that "he is not likely to be heading to Swansea and that other options are now more likely.

"Swansea is still an option, but far from the strongest possibility as things stand this morning."

It was suggested even in the early reports last week that there could be other Championship clubs interested and now it seems they could have moved ahead of the Swans in a likely deadline for the player.

Fulham miss out on signing 29-year-old as Premier League club finalise transfer

Brentford have confirmed the signing of Danish international Christian Eriksen via the club website.

This comes after Football League World exclusively learnt that Fulham were lining up an ambitious move for the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder.

The 29-year-old, who suffered a cardiac arrest whilst representing Denmark during Euro 2020, will be embarking on his first spell after the incident.

Fulham possess a plethora of exciting attacking options, but Eriksen would certainly have been the most impressive player to land at Craven Cottage yet.

The Cottagers find themselves five points clear at the Championship summit and are six points ahead of Bournemouth in third, with securing Premier League football the ultimate objective in West London.

The future of Fabio Carvalho remains in the balance on Deadline Day and it could turn into a hectic day at Craven Cottage.

The verdict

Fulham appear to have enough to get themselves over the line, even with Eriksen signing for the Bees.

Even if Carvalho is to depart, they are still likely to have what it takes to secure promotion back to the Premier League.

Eriksen's world-class ability on the ball, vision and understanding of the game would have made him one of the most exciting Championship players there has ever been, and he could be a real coup for the Bees.

It remains to be seen if it will be a successful Deadline Day at Craven Cottage, but as things stand, Fulham still possess a squad capable of maintaining their spot at the Championship summit.

Fulham correspondent for The Athletic provides an update on Fabio Carvalho's potential deadline day move to Liverpool

Fabio Carvalho has been touted with a move to Liverpool for most of the January transfer window but the hours are now speedily dwindling to get this one done.

The 19-year-old is having a great season in the Championship and with his contract ending in the summer, there's an urgency on our side to get the paperwork completed asap.

According to Peter Rutzler from The Athletic: 'After months of uncertainty, the future of Fulham's exciting attacking midfielder Carvalho could well be resolved in the final hours of this transfer window.

'The 19-year-old's contract expires at the end of the season but Liverpool are trying to head off the competition by securing his signature early.

'They are now in talks with Fulham about a potential transfer, with Liverpool prepared to pay £5 million and loan him back for the rest of the season.

'Fulham are eager to keep Carvalho at least until the summer, to help with the club's promotion push'.

The Fulham correspondent for the online publication seems to think this could go down to the wire and so it could be a late night for many as we wait to see if we can get it done.

It's seems very fair to offer the fee and loan to the London side, so that they can get money for a player that looks set to leave on a free and also be able to keep him for the rest of the season.

Could the final hours see a new Portuguese star adorned in a red shirt?

We'll have to patiently wait to find out...

I was at the match where Paul Parish suffered cardiac arrest. His death is a loss for the whole Fulham family
I cannot recall being more affected by the death of a stranger. No one goes to a match expecting not to return home

Like Paul and Clare Parish, I attended the Fulham v Blackpool match with my daughter this weekend. Like them, I watched the scintillating first 12 minutes, in which our talisman Alexander Mitrovic scored his customary goal, anticipating another convincing victory. Suddenly, there was a commotion to the right of us. The crowd were calling frantically for Fulham medics to offer assistance to somebody in their midst. As those medics tried to tend to him, fans around Paul Parish, who had suffered a cardiac arrest, shielded his privacy with Fulham flags. He was transferred to hospital in front of a standing ovation from the Hammersmith End. The Blackpool fans opposite us had been equally respectful.

Sadly, his heart having arrested again outside the stadium, Paul Parish later passed away. He was only 63. I cannot imagine what his daughter Clare, who had called for help, and the rest of his family must be feeling. My condolences to them all. Clare has written a heart-breaking, detailed thread on Twitter thanking all the medics, stewards, an off-duty policeman, an off-duty doctor and all the on-duty staff at nearby Charing Cross Hospital, who tried in vain to save her beloved dad. It would move anyone to tears.

I cannot recall being more affected by the death of a stranger, in part because Paul Parish does not feel like a stranger. Fulham genuinely is a "family club". We spent much of the same game chatting to the new half-season ticket holders in front of us: two mums with young sons, excited to bring them to watch football live. We know the family behind us too, we have watched each other's children grow at "the Cottage" and care for each other. Dennis, my lovely, elderly seat neighbour, comes down from Lincoln for every home game. Lincoln! We even have a WhatsApp group where we only talk Fulham and family. That family feeling extends to all Fulham fans. Like Paul Parish and his daughter.

The hospital is a minute from my home. It's where I undertook weeks of rehab after my own heart attack seven years ago. Almost immediately on Saturday, conspiracy theories started flying on social media: "suddenly so many incidents", "Hmm, I wonder what's changed", "didn't happen before the vaccine, did it?". Well, yes it did. My intensive care unit neighbour back then was a West Ham fan who had a cardiac arrest at a West Ham game. His mates had come with him, joking they were miffed that he had made them miss a rare West Ham winner against Chelsea. The match had not stopped, so nobody knew what had happened. Today, we are more sensitive. Play stops so that medics can do their job in a calmer, more respectful atmosphere. The crowd understands this, even if conspiracy theorists do not.

My family of Fulham fans' hearts go out to the Parish family, as do those of all supporters everywhere. No-one goes to a match expecting not to return home.

From the chairman Shahid Khan and the captain Tom Cairney down to all "ordinary" fans, we pay tribute to Paul and offer our respects to Clare, his family and friends.

In the meantime, hug your loved ones close.

Well said and you're spot on about the Fulham family we have around us at the Cottage.
So sad to hear of Pauls passing on Sunday morning having been in the Putney End for the game and seeing the flags go around him and the medical team as they worked to save his life - we had hoped for the best as he was stretchered away.
Clares words on Twitter brought a tear to my eye as I'm sure they did for many.

Liverpool reach breakthrough in £5m bid for Fulham star as Michael Edwards ploy secures move

Liverpool are reportedly closing on the deadline day signing of Fabio Carvalho amid claims Michael Edwards has convinced Fulham into accepting a deal.

The Reds secured the highl-impressive acquisition of Colombian winger Luis Diaz on Sunday with plenty of time to spare before Monday's transfer deadline. However, their business for the January window appears to be unfinished with talks for Carvalho ongoing.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder is in the final six months of his contract at Craven Cottage. And talks over an improved deal are yet to result in an extension.

Indeed, with seven goals and four assists for Fulham this season, it's easy to see why Carvalho is a man in demand.

He's been tracked by both Leeds and Liverpool in recent months.

However, trusted transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano claims it is Liverpool who are closing on his signature.

He states that talks over the transfer are now 'in its final stages' with a £5m proposal being accepted by Fulham.

Another Michael Edwards masterstroke
Furthermore, key to getting the deal over the line was Liverpool allowing Carvalho to see out the season at Craven Cottage. As such, Liverpool's capture of the England youth winger will see him loaned back to Fulham for the remainder of the season.

The deal is yet another transfer masterstroke by departing sporting director Michael Edwards.

And while he very much wanted to keep him, that's a proposal reluctantly accepted by Fulham boss Marco Silva.

Speaking on Friday, he outlined his confidence of keeping Carvalho until the end of the season.

Marco Silva comments on Fabio Carvalho
"Fabio Carvalho will be with us until the end of the season," Silva said.

"However, it's been difficult for us to renew with him, but we are trying.

"It is always difficult with a player of this talent – even with a contract it is difficult to keep him, and without it is even worse. But Fabio will be with us until the end of this season."

The Liverpool Echo claim the £5million bid was made on Sunday night as they look to beat off competition from several clubs in England and abroad.

The development conundrum

The elephant in the room as we wait to see whether Fabio Carvalho will make the move to Liverpool before the January window closes is Fulham's ambitions to be a club that develops young talent. Producing a conveyor belt of future prospects is a laudable aspiration – and the Whites have made significant progress by transforming their academy set up under Huw Jennings – but being a category one academy will always be undermined unless the club can keep hold of their brightest stars. The biggest clubs will always poach the best players, but last summer's academy reorganisation appears to have been a recognition that things needed to change at Motspur Park.

To an extent, Fulham are hamstrung by not playing in the Premier League at present – there will always be attractive destinations elsewhere until the Whites are able to establish themselves at the elite level of English football again. It is almost indisputable that Fulham have lost two many of their talented youngsters to the top clubs in recent years, often for a fraction of their market value. Maybe Patrick Roberts and Ryan Sessegnon recouped significant funds for the club but the likes of Mousa Dembele and, mostly recently, Mika Biereth moved on for paltry development fees. There is the added frustration that, often, those moves to the big clubs don't work out for the player concerned. Currently, Harvey Elliott – progressing well at Anfield until a horrible injury – appears an outlier.

We can blame Fulham for how they handled these situations. The Carvalho predicament is far from the first time we have seen a burgeoning talent reach the final year of his contract and attract a swarm of suitors. We can blame Liverpool for turning the head of a prodigious talent – and this feels comfortable since Carvalho's case is so similar to that of Elliott. But perhaps the biggest culprits at present are the agents promising riches to their clients, who will rather be playing football. A system that allows vulnerable youngsters to be viewed as commodities by all parties is manifestly unfit for purpose.

I'm less convinced that Fulham are heading for hardship should Carvalho be on his way today. Some of our sparkling performances earlier in the season came when he wasn't in Marco Silva's side and the squad should still have enough to clinch promotion from the Championship. It should spark some soul searching amongst the Fulham hierarchy that another bright young thing has been spirited away for a pittance – although the club would probably point to Jay Stansfield signing a contract extension last week as evidence that things are changing.

That category one academy status – and the recent success of our under 18 and under 23 sides – still makes Fulham an attractive proposition for young talent. Some of the most consistent performers under Steve Wigley should soon be in a position to get a first-team opportunity. Sylvester Jasper and Sonny Hilton are probably the likeliest to be promoted to the senior squad, whilst Ollie O'Neill and Luke Harris look ridiculously gifted for their tender ages. How we manage their development – and contractual status – going forward will be crucial for the club's long-term health.

The structure of the Carvalho deal remains the subject of fevered speculation. Fulham have been steadfast in their insistence that he wouldn't be leaving before the end of the season, something Silva stated publicly in Friday's press conference. You would think it would take a massive offer to change that position – one more substantial that the £5m figure that has been splashed across the tabloids. There would need to be add-ons and clauses related to Carvalho's future performances. There have been suggestions that we would be asking for a loan back to Craven Cottage, but I wouldn't take him back. Either the player is fully committed to Fulham or he wants his dream move. If he leaves, we can thank him for the glimpses of his undoubted talent and move on.

Liverpool 'could walk away from Fabio Carvalho signing' if Fulham reject £5m bid today
LIVERPOOL have been tipped to sign Fulham attacker Fabio Carvalho.

Liverpool could walk away from their pursuit of Fulham youngster Fabio Carvalho if the west Londoners don't accept their £5million offer today. The Reds have been tipped to sign the 19-year-old as he continues to impress for the Championship leaders.

Carvalho broke into the Fulham side as an 18-year-old at the end of last season as he appeared in four Premier League matches before his team were relegated.

He notched his first goal for the club as Fulham were defeated 3-1 by Southampton in May.

This season, the teenager has become a star player for his side and has found the back of the net seven times in 18 league matches.

He even grabbed his first brace for the club earlier this month as Fulham thrashed Birmingham City 6-2.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of Carvalho and on Sunday the club submitted a £5m bid for the player, despite the fact he is out of contract in the summer.

But, according to Sky Sports, if the deal doesn't happen today it is unlikely to happen at all as Liverpool don't want to be faced with a tribunal.

The Reds have been stung twice in recent years following legal battles.

They were told to pay Burnley over £8m after signing Danny Ings at the end of his contract in 2015 and then had to stump up £4m after prising Harvey Elliott away from Fulham in 2019.

Reds transfer chief Michael Edwards therefore wants to agree terms with the Cottagers for Carvalho to ensure the club don't get hit further down the line.

Fulham determined to keep Fabio Carvalho for Premier League promotion bid despite Liverpool transfer move

Fulham are adamant that Fabio Carvalho will remain at Craven Cottage until the end of the season, even if Liverpool strike a late deal for the youngster.

The 19-year-old has attracted interest from across the Premier League with Leeds, Southampton and West Ham all linked previously, but Liverpool look set to win the race for the forward.

Jurgen Klopp's side, who three years ago signed Harvey Elliott from Fulham's academy, are in talks over a late £5million deal for the youngster, who rejected a new deal earlier this season and would be a free agent in the summer.

With Marco Silva's side pushing for the Championship title and an instant return back to the Premier League, the west Londoners do not want to lose a crucial cog in their forward line and any deal would see Carvalho stay in west London on loan until the end of the campaign.

Carvalho, who has represented England at youth level, has a combined six goals and assists in the last five games.

The forward made four appearances in the Premier League at the end of last season and scored his first goal for the club at Southampton. Carvalho has seven goals and four assists in the Championship this term.

Liverpool's stance regarding Fabio Carvalho negotiations becomes apparent

Liverpool may not end up signing Fabio Carvalho after all today, with the Daily Express reporting that the Reds may decide to end negotiations completely if their offer of £5m isn't deemed good enough.

The Anfield side have been known as keen admirers of the young talent and although the Cottagers won't been keen to let one of their most exciting players leave, a big enough bid could tempt them into business.

The fee that appears to be on the table for the forward is £5m – but that looks like it may be as high as Jurgen Klopp's side are willing to go with it. According to the Daily Express, if this offer is snubbed, then Liverpool may leave Carvalho entirely and look for targets elsewhere.

While the chance to play in the Premier League for the Reds is a great opportunity for the player, it would be great news for Fulham if they could hold onto the 19-year-old until the end of the season by rejecting this offer. With ten goal contributions in just 18 Championship games, he has lit up the second tier alongside Aleksandar Mitrovic and has helped his side claim a lead at the top of the table.

To lose him in the middle of the campaign would be a blow – but it looks like Fulham could hold onto him if they aren't tempted by the lure of this £5m bid. A rejection here could see Liverpool leave the race for his signature entirely.

Rather than face the rest of the campaign without Carvalho then, if this bid is snubbed, it could see an end to any potential for him to head out the exit door today.

The Verdict

Fabio Carvalho really is an exciting player and Liverpool know a good young player when they see one – and that's why they have now swooped to try and sign the 19-year-old.

Considering his age, it is amazing to see just how well he is doing in the Championship. He's a forward that is packed full of potential but is also well capable of doing a job now, as showcased by his displays for Fulham this season.

He's become a pivotal player for the Cottagers already, so there will be plenty of Fulham fans crossing their fingers that they turn down the advances of Liverpool today. It might be hard to snub £5m, especially when Carvalho's stock is so high, but if they do it could at least help them until the end of the season.

If the Reds decide not to move for the forward, it is unlikely to be the end of any interest in the player from other parties. However, if they can see off the Anfield side today, then there could be hope for keeping him until summer at least.

Chelsea already have their Fabio Carvalho response to Liverpool and Thomas Tuchel loves it

Liverpool might be planning for their midfield future with Fabio Carvalho, but Chelsea already have that secure with Cobham's finest

We have spoken about the difference between Chelsea and Liverpool's recruitment in recent days and how the Merseyside club's clearer vision under Jurgen Klopp has helped them get ahead of the Blues in the market.

Fabio Carvalho from Fulham for a rumoured £5m deal on deadline day signals a look to the future at Anfield with one of the Championship's finest young talents.

But Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea already have their response to Liverpool's potential new recruit, and once again, it pinpoints how valuable Cobham is to the club's present and long-term plans, saving millions in potential transfer fees.

The place to start here is Conor Gallagher, currently impressing on loan at Crystal Palace.

The 21-year-old has scored seven times in 19 appearances for Patrick Vieira's Eagles in the Premier League and appears all set to return to Stamford Bridge at the end of his second Premier League loan.

Tuchel whenever asked about Gallagher has been full of praise for the goalscoring midfielder, speaking to his mentality and commitment to getting better.

"There cannot be a coach who does not love guys like this, humble nice, always with a smile on their face, always ready to give everything, who wants to learn and improve," Tuchel said back in November.

"Also, as a team-mate, I would have loved to play with him because he's a helper. He starts in minute one, and he finishes maybe in the shower. That's the earliest minute where he finishes running and seeing balls."

Already Gallagher's unique goalscoring quality picks him out as a talent Chelsea cannot afford to lose easily this summer, and the player himself has proven he is good enough to play in England's top tier.

His pressing and tactical intelligence traits make him a perfect fit for Tuchel's high energy system and a suitable backup for Mason Mount, one of the German's most consistent performers.

Another young midfielder coming through Chelsea's talent line is Harvey Vale, who made his senior debut at Brentford in December's Carabao Cup.

It reflects how highly Tuchel values the 18-year-old that Chelsea has rejected a loan offer from Huddersfield Town on January deadline day.

As The Athletic reported, Tuchel wants the option of using him more in the second half of the season.

Vale has a good chance to feature in Chelsea's FA Cup tie against Plymouth this Saturday at Stamford Bridge and is another technically gifted Cobham talent that has developed rapidly with the age groups of the academy and is likely on route for a loan in the summer.

Club chief 'will try to get discount' to secure Fulham player – 'Addition negotiation' could be 'feasible'

Despite this story not directly being related to the January transfer window, it's still rather important for Fulham fans to know that their club could receive less money than anticipated for André-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

That would be, of course, down to the Cottagers to accept this, but Gazzetta dello Sport make it clear that Aurelio De Laurentiis, Napoli's owner, is keen to save a few million here and there if he can.

The newspaper say the player's future 'will be decided in June', regardless of how well he has played and will play between now and the end of the season.

Fulham agreed with Napoli that €15m could be paid at any time during the player's loan away from Craven Cottage, which is an incredibly affordable fee for a player of his calibre, and yet, despite having 'plenty of time to reflect', negotiations could take place.

It's made clear that 'De Laurentiis will try to get a discount from the English club on the set €15m', because 'the pandemic crisis is still palpable at every level, and therefore perhaps an additional negotiation with Fulham will become feasible, also regarding the payment methods'.

Perhaps, then, rather than a discount, Fulham could agree for the fee to be paid over a few years?

We doubt it, but you never know.

Liverpool Desperate To Do Fabio Carvalho Deal Now, Want To Avoid Summer Complications

Liverpool are pushing to sign Fabio Carvalho from Fulham today because they are keen to avoid having to fight clubs for his signature in the summer and have a fee set by a tribunal, according to the Press Association.

The Reds sealed a big money swoop for Luis Diaz from FC Porto on Sunday but are not done with their player recruitment this month.

Liverpool have their eyes on Fulham starlet Carvalho and are keen on bringing him to Anfield, with talks taking place.

The Merseyside giants are pushing to land the 19-year-old and are locked in talks with the Cottagers over sealing a deadline day swoop for him.

Carvalho is out of contract at Craven Cottage in the summer and Reds have submitted an initial bid for him in the £5m range, but Fulham are yet to agree on a deal.

However, Liverpool are desperate to get a deal done for the teenager before tonight's transfer deadline as they are wary of being involved in the chase in the summer.

Jurgen Klopp's side want to avoid competition for Carvalho's signature in the next window and also want to avoid a tribunal setting a fee for him next summer, which could put his foreign suitors in an advantageous position.

Fulham want to keep hold of Carvalho for the remainder of the season and Liverpool have been tipped to loan him back to the Cottagers.
