Liverpool make 'final push' to sign £5m Fabio Carvalho as Reds wait on player to make call
LIVERPOOL want to get a deal done to sign Fabio Carvalho before 11pm this evening.

Liverpool have made one last push to bring Fabio Carvalho to the club from Fulham today, according to reports. But it is claimed that the final decision on a move rests with the player himself.

Having snapped up Luis Diaz from Porto earlier than originally planned yesterday, Liverpool are also looking to bring another long-term target to Anfield in Carvalho.

The 19-year-old attacker has starred for Fulham in the Championship this season with seven goals and four assists in 18 games for the title-chasing Cottagers.

Despite flourishing under Marco Silva for the in-form league leaders, the England under-19 international has not signed a contract extension with his current deal expiring this summer.

The goalscoring midfielder, who has been at the club since the age of 14, rejected the offer of a new contract at Craven Cottage back in November.

And Liverpool are looking to secure a deal for the immensely-promising Carvalho having shown a willingness to allow him to see out the remainder of the season on loan at Fulham.

The Sunday World say Liverpool have made one last late push to bring Carvalho to Merseyside before this evening's 11pm deadline.

It is claimed that the two clubs are ready to agree a deal over Carvalho but that the final decision rests with the Portugal-born teenager himself.

Carvalho knows that if he were to leave on a free in the summer, he might be able to command higher wages with the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Porto said to be interested.

And those clubs may also be able to offer greater guarantees of first-team minutes next season with plenty of competition in Liverpool's midfield and attack despite Jurgen Klopp's willingness to give games to young players.

The Liverpool Echo have reported that Liverpool will refuse to pay over the odds with it thought a bid of £5million has been submitted, and the Sunday World's report suggests Fulham are willing to do business at that price. They will lose him for a nominal compensation fee if he moves abroad once his contract expires.

But whether a deal goes through before the winter window closes will be decided by the player, who will have a number of clubs to pick from if he stays this month and instead leaves in the summer.

Fulham boss Silva has made it clear he wants to keep the player in his arsenal at least until the summer as the Londoners chase a return to the Premier League.

"Fabio will be with us until the end of the season," the ex-Everton manager said. "I would like to see him here for more years.

"From day one I have been trying to keep him. It is not a surprise that clubs are interested in Fabio. We are talking about a young player with big talent.

"The situation is not easy because he is in the last year of his contract, but that is the reality. It is out of our plans for him to leave the club in this window. It has been difficult for us to renew with him, but we are trying.

"It is always difficult with a player of this talent - even with a contract it is difficult to keep him, and without it is even worse. But Fabio will be with us until the end of this season."

Tiehi joins Rodez on loan

Fulham forward Jean-Pierre Tiehi has joined French Ligue 2 side Rodez Aveyron Football on loan until the end of the season.

The 20 year-old striker, who has starred for the club's academy since arriving from Le Havre in 2019, will immediately join the first-team squad of the southern French outfit – who currently are eleventh in the second division. Tiehi has scored 12 goals in 29 appearances for Fulham's under 18s and a further 12 goals in 36 matches at under-23 level.

The speedy striker could go straight into Rodez's squad for their next fixture: a home match against Valenciennes next Saturday.

Further details emerge on Liverpool's pursuit of Fulham's Fabio Carvalho

Premier League outfit Liverpool would be willing to fork out £5m to recruit Fulham youngster Fabio Carvalho in the coming days, as per a report from the Daily Express.

The 19-year-old has been the subject of interest from clubs across Europe in recent months following a sparkling start to the 2021/22 campaign, recording three goals in the Cottagers' opening four league games and continuing to play an instrumental part in the second-tier side's promotion push.

Making 18 league appearances for Marco Silva's men this term, he has been one of the first names on the teamsheet when available, operating alongside the likes of Neeskens Kebano and Harry Wilson with his side holding the best attacking record in the Championship during 2021/22 so far.

He previously looked set to be one of the club's most valuable assets for years to come, but his contract in the English capital is set to come to an end at the end of the season and has already rejected a contract offer at the Cottage, putting his future in major doubt.

It was reported that any contract talks were going to be put on hold until this month with the attacking midfielder changing representatives.

However, an agreement is yet to be struck between the two parties regarding an extension on his current terms – and that may have persuaded the Championship club to cash in to avoid losing one of their most promising players for free.

But manager Marco Silva has confirmed that his key man won't be leaving the club this month, even with the Reds seemingly willing to pay £5m to take Carvalho off their hands.

The Verdict:

Considering the financial prize of getting to the Premier League is bigger than any fee they would receive for Carvalho this month, it does make sense for the Cottagers to retain him beyond this month, even if he does decide to move on in the summer.

They would even receive compensation for his services – and letting go of a key player now who is arguably the final piece to their jigsaw would be borderline nonsensical – so it would be very difficult to see Fulham selling up now.

In fact, Jurgen Klopp's side would probably have to double the amount they are willing to spend to even see Fulham come to the negotiating table – and even then – they are unlikely to succeed.

This is why they need to divert their attention to other targets for the remainder of the window and then wait until the summer to pounce.

They may not be guaranteed to secure his signature when the season ends, purely because he's unlikely to be short of tempting offers from elite teams around Europe, but chasing him now almost seems futile so it would be a surprise to see any major developments on this story before the deadline tomorrow.
