Jack and Loz at the Cottage - Blog 207
Football is just a game. Except it isn't.

Football brings people together in a way that few other things can. It's a sport and other sports have passions and rivalries, but supporting a football team isn't like being a cricket fan or a rugby fan or having a favourite tennis player. Supporting a football team is a way of life and when you pick your team or, more often than not, it picks you, you join a family.

The Fulham family is smaller than many but the bonds are strong. One of the most memorable things about our day at Wembley 4 years ago, is that 40,000 seats held most Fulham fans. Nearly all of us were there to witness our Club triumph. Together.

And so when we lose a member of our small, special, unique Club, it really hurts. And that's what happened on Saturday. We never met Paul Parish but we know he was a lifelong Fulham fan, father and grandfather. He was one of the Fulham family and we are all devastated.

It happened very suddenly. One minute we were cheering Mitro's goal and the next the fans in H6 were frantically summoning medical help and Marek Rodak was stopping the game. The medics were there in an instant, with the Blackpool duo leading the way. We have no doubt they did everything they could and, at first, the news seemed to be positive.

After a long, anxious break, the match continued and Fulham fell apart a bit, in that way they sometimes do. But that doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if Joe Bryan is better or worse than Antonee Robinson, it doesn't matter if Seri will get back into the side, it doesn't matter who was at fault for the goal.

What matters is that people tried, and helped and prayed. What matters is the heartfelt sympathy of Tom and Tim and the other players who have taken to social media to express their condolences. What matters is that the Fulham family overseas feel this loss as much as those of us closer to home. There is, of course, a wider football family and they, led by the Blackpool fans and players, have offered their sympathy too.

So football is just a game but it's a game which means a great deal to a huge number of people. And whilst the result of the match isn't important, the sport which has brought Fulham fans together is. A tragedy puts things in perspective and, viewed through the prism of a lifelong fan's passing, football is very important indeed.

John Donne wrote, "Every man's death diminishes me for I am involved in mankind." And how much more we are affected by the death of one of our own.

Our thoughts continue to be with Paul's loves ones. Their dignity is humbling and inspirational. We hope, as shocking as events were, that there is some comfort in knowing that when it happened Paul was at his beloved Craven Cottage with his family and the Fulham family and that we were all celebrating Mitro's 28th goal of a record breaking season. And when we are promoted, because we will be, that achievement will be dedicated to Paul, and the other family members we have lost.

I was at the match where Paul Parish suffered cardiac arrest. His death is a loss for the whole Fulham family
I cannot recall being more affected by the death of a stranger. No one goes to a match expecting not to return home

Like Paul and Clare Parish, I attended the Fulham v Blackpool match with my daughter this weekend. Like them, I watched the scintillating first 12 minutes, in which our talisman Alexander Mitrovic scored his customary goal, anticipating another convincing victory. Suddenly, there was a commotion to the right of us. The crowd were calling frantically for Fulham medics to offer assistance to somebody in their midst. As those medics tried to tend to him, fans around Paul Parish, who had suffered a cardiac arrest, shielded his privacy with Fulham flags. He was transferred to hospital in front of a standing ovation from the Hammersmith End. The Blackpool fans opposite us had been equally respectful.

Sadly, his heart having arrested again outside the stadium, Paul Parish later passed away. He was only 63. I cannot imagine what his daughter Clare, who had called for help, and the rest of his family must be feeling. My condolences to them all. Clare has written a heart-breaking, detailed thread on Twitter thanking all the medics, stewards, an off-duty policeman, an off-duty doctor and all the on-duty staff at nearby Charing Cross Hospital, who tried in vain to save her beloved dad. It would move anyone to tears.

I cannot recall being more affected by the death of a stranger, in part because Paul Parish does not feel like a stranger. Fulham genuinely is a "family club". We spent much of the same game chatting to the new half-season ticket holders in front of us: two mums with young sons, excited to bring them to watch football live. We know the family behind us too, we have watched each other's children grow at "the Cottage" and care for each other. Dennis, my lovely, elderly seat neighbour, comes down from Lincoln for every home game. Lincoln! We even have a WhatsApp group where we only talk Fulham and family. That family feeling extends to all Fulham fans. Like Paul Parish and his daughter.

The hospital is a minute from my home. It's where I undertook weeks of rehab after my own heart attack seven years ago. Almost immediately on Saturday, conspiracy theories started flying on social media: "suddenly so many incidents", "Hmm, I wonder what's changed", "didn't happen before the vaccine, did it?". Well, yes it did. My intensive care unit neighbour back then was a West Ham fan who had a cardiac arrest at a West Ham game. His mates had come with him, joking they were miffed that he had made them miss a rare West Ham winner against Chelsea. The match had not stopped, so nobody knew what had happened. Today, we are more sensitive. Play stops so that medics can do their job in a calmer, more respectful atmosphere. The crowd understands this, even if conspiracy theorists do not.

My family of Fulham fans' hearts go out to the Parish family, as do those of all supporters everywhere. No-one goes to a match expecting not to return home.

From the chairman Shahid Khan and the captain Tom Cairney down to all "ordinary" fans, we pay tribute to Paul and offer our respects to Clare, his family and friends.

In the meantime, hug your loved ones close.

Liverpool 'see Fabio Carvalho enquiry turned down'

Fulham have reportedly informed Liverpool that in-demand teenager Fabio Carvalho is not for sale during the January transfer window.

The 19-year-old has been in impressive form for the Cottagers during the 2021-22 campaign, scoring seven times and contributing four assists in 19 appearances in all competitions.

Carvalho's contract at Craven Cottage is due to expire this summer, and Liverpool are among a number of clubs to be credited with an interest in the attacker.

According to The Sun, Liverpool recently approached the Championship club to enquire about the teenager but were told that he was not for sale during the winter window.

The report claims that Fulham are desperate for Carvalho to aid their push for Premier League promotion and will therefore reject any offers that arrive this month.

The youngster - also linked with Chelsea, Real Madrid and West Ham United - has scored eight goals and registered four assists in 25 appearances for Fulham since breaking into the first team.

Fulham linked with Philadelphia Union left-back Kai Wagner

Fulham are being linked with Philadelphia Union left-back Kai Wagner, as per the Daily Mail.

Fulham have been mentioned as one of a few English clubs keen on the MLS defender.

Wagner, 24, has been a key player for Philadelphia over the past few years and is now being tipped for a move to Europe.

The Daily Mail claim Brentford have made an enquiry, whilst West Ham United and Watford have also been monitoring his progress.

Story so far
Wagner is from Germany and started his career with spells at FC Augsburg, SSV Ulm, Schalke and Würzburger Kickers before moving over to America in 2019.

He has since established himself as one of the Union's key players and has made 91 appearances for them in all competitions to date, chipping in with four goals and 12 assists.

The defender played a key role in Jim Curtin's side winning the Supporters' Shield back in 2020.

Wagner is under contract at Philadelphia until 2023 so they are under no pressure to cash in on him yet.

Do Fulham need a left-back?
Fulham are currently well stocked up at left-back with Joe Bryan and Antonee Robinson. The latter is currently on international duty with USA though.

The Cottagers were held 1-1 at home by Blackpool yesterday but remain well on track to secure their place back in the Premier League for next term.

Next up for Marco Silva's men is an FA Cup clash away at Premier League table toppers Manchester City, followed by a home fixture in the league against Millwall.

Fulham captain and chairman pay tribute as fan dies from cardiac arrest at Craven Cottage during game

Fulham captain Tom Cairney and chairman Shahid Khan have paid tribute to a supporter who died after suffering a cardiac arrest during Saturday's Championship match against Blackpool at Craven Cottage.

The fixture was delayed for 41 minutes while supporter Paul Parish received emergency treatment before being rushed to hospital.

Fulham later released a statement announcing the supporter had died, sending their condolences to Mr Parish's family and friends.

'It is with immense sadness that we inform fans of the passing of supporter, Paul Parish,' the club said.

'Paul suffered a cardiac arrest and received treatment in the Hammersmith Stand at this afternoon's match before being transferred to the hospital. He sadly passed away this evening.

'Our condolences and the thoughts of everyone at Fulham Football Club go out to Paul's family, friends and loved ones.

'The family would like to thank the fans of Fulham and Blackpool for the respect and care they showed as well as all staff at Craven Cottage and at the hospital for their assistance, care and attention. Rest in Peace Paul.'

Writing on Twitter, club captain Cairney said: 'Just heard the devastating news, Rest in Peace Paul. You'll be a part of the Fulham family forever.

'Thank you to the [Hammersmith Stand end] for bringing our attention to the situation. Thoughts are with Paul's family we're all with you and anything we can do or help with please reach out.'

Fulham chairman, Mr Khan, added: 'I am devastated by the news that Paul Parish, our supporter who suffered a medical emergency at the match this afternoon, has passed away.

'I've been told that Fulham Football Club played an extremely important role in the entirety of Paul's life, with Craven Cottage serving as a second home where he would spend many afternoons as a season ticket holder, supporting his club in the company of family and friends.

'We are honoured that Paul chose Fulham as his club, and I personally wish Paul's loved ones comfort, support and peace in the days ahead and beyond.

'To Marek Rodak and all supporters nearby who summoned for help, I am grateful. I join everyone at FFC in commending the work by medics and stewards, whose response to the matter was incomparable.

'Finally, the reverence shown by Fulham and Blackpool supporters alike served as a reminder of good in the game of football, and the goodness within all of us.'

Blackpool, meanwhile, said on Twitter: 'We are all deeply saddened to learn of Paul's passing. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Paul's family and all those connected to Fulham at this time.'

The match ended 1-1 as Josh Bowler cancelled out Aleksandar Mitrovic's early opener to earn Blackpool a point against Championship leaders Fulham.

Further details emerge on Liverpool's pursuit of Fulham's Fabio Carvalho

Premier League outfit Liverpool would be willing to fork out £5m to recruit Fulham youngster Fabio Carvalho in the coming days, as per a report from the Daily Express.

The 19-year-old has been the subject of interest from clubs across Europe in recent months following a sparkling start to the 2021/22 campaign, recording three goals in the Cottagers' opening four league games and continuing to play an instrumental part in the second-tier side's promotion push.

Making 18 league appearances for Marco Silva's men this term, he has been one of the first names on the teamsheet when available, operating alongside the likes of Neeskens Kebano and Harry Wilson with his side holding the best attacking record in the Championship during 2021/22 so far.

He previously looked set to be one of the club's most valuable assets for years to come, but his contract in the English capital is set to come to an end at the end of the season and has already rejected a contract offer at the Cottage, putting his future in major doubt.

It was reported that any contract talks were going to be put on hold until this month with the attacking midfielder changing representatives.

However, an agreement is yet to be struck between the two parties regarding an extension on his current terms – and that may have persuaded the Championship club to cash in to avoid losing one of their most promising players for free.

But manager Marco Silva has confirmed that his key man won't be leaving the club this month, even with the Reds seemingly willing to pay £5m to take Carvalho off their hands.

The Verdict:

Considering the financial prize of getting to the Premier League is bigger than any fee they would receive for Carvalho this month, it does make sense for the Cottagers to retain him beyond this month, even if he does decide to move on in the summer.

They would even receive compensation for his services – and letting go of a key player now who is arguably the final piece to their jigsaw would be borderline nonsensical – so it would be very difficult to see Fulham selling up now.

In fact, Jurgen Klopp's side would probably have to double the amount they are willing to spend to even see Fulham come to the negotiating table – and even then – they are unlikely to succeed.

This is why they need to divert their attention to other targets for the remainder of the window and then wait until the summer to pounce.

They may not be guaranteed to secure his signature when the season ends, purely because he's unlikely to be short of tempting offers from elite teams around Europe, but chasing him now almost seems futile so it would be a surprise to see any major developments on this story before the deadline tomorrow.

Transfer News: Barcelona rival Liverpool in Fabio Carvalho pursuit

Barcelona and Liverpool will reportedly be vying for the signature of 19-year-old Fulham prodigy Fabio Carvalho in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Fabio Carvalho is generating interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Barcelona and Liverpool are keen on signing the prodigious 19-year-old attacker on a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

Fabio Carvalho has come a long way since joining the Fulham youth setup from Banham FC in 2014. The teenage prodigy progressed through the ranks rapidly in the Cottagers' academy before breaking into the first-team squad last season. And after showing a lot of promise in 2020/21, the youngster has stepped his game up a notch this term.

The 19-year-old has been instrumental in Fulham's bid to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League, racking up seven goals and four assists in 18 outings in the EFL Championship. But the Londoners are in a spot of bother over Carvalho's future, as he is in the final six months of his contract and unlikely to sign a renewal. The player's situation has not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona and Liverpool keen on signing him.

Barcelona's links with Carvalho come in the wake of their recent outlook of giving opportunities to prodigious youngsters at an early age. The likes of Ansu Fati, Pedri, Gavi and Nico Gonzalez are some of the regulars to have benefitted from the Blaugrana's willingness to pave the path for players in their teens, with several young stars also on their radar.

The Catalan giants are keen on bolstering their attack this year while adding new dimensions to their offensive unit. And Carvalho has emerged as a viable target, considering he has shown a lot of promise since being handed his first-team debut at Fulham, essentially becoming an option to replace Memphis Depay. But Barcelona will need to fend off competition from Liverpool to sign him.

The interest from Liverpool could be stemming from the uncertainties surrounding the future of Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino. While the duo will likely stay put at Anfield beyond the January transfer window, Liverpool could sell them in the summer, thereby necessitating the addition of an attacker despite the impending arrival of Luis Diaz.

With Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane entering the final 18 months of their respective contracts, Liverpool might need to replace either player. The Reds were even preparing a bid to sign Carvalho this month but will likely move for him in the summer. Several other clubs have also been linked with the 19-year-old, so Barcelona and Liverpool will have a battle on their hands if he runs down his Fulham contract.

Fulham weigh up Wagner move

Fulham are among a number of English clubs interested in signing the Philadelphia Union left back Kai Wagner, according to the Daily Mail.

Brentford have submitted a formal enquiry to the MLS side about their German defender, whilst Watford, West Ham United and Fulham are known to have been tracking the 24 year-old. Wagner, who helped the Union win the Supporters' Shield in 2020, was named in the MLS All Star side last August in recognition of his consistent displays. He has spent almost three years with Philadelphia, making 91 first-team appearances and scoring four goals.

Wagner started his senior career with SSV Ulm 1846, whom he helped win the German fifth-tier title in 2016 before sealing a move to Schalke's second string. He has also represented Wurzburger Kickers and has eleven months to go on his current Union contract, with the MLS franchise holding a further year's option.

EXCLUSIVE: Fulham, Nottingham Forest get green light to snare Championship flyer

Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest are battling to win the race for Blackpool star Josh Bowler, TEAMtalk understands.

The forward, 22, plays primarily on the right wing for Neil Critchley's Blackpool. His contract expires in the summer, though Blackpool are understood to hold the option to trigger a further 12 months.

Nevertheless, Bowler is a man in demand right now, and Blackpool are ready to play ball.

We understand they are set to allow Bowler to leave the club on Monday as long as their asking price –  believed to be around £1.5million – is met.

Nottingham Forest had been leading the chase for Bowler, and have had two bids turned down this month.

Not to be deterred, Forest are again set to return. However, they are not alone in the race this time round.

Promotion-chasing pair Bournemouth and Fulham are both in the mix, and both have held talks over a late-January switch.

Now, Bowler, who joined Blackpool from Everton in the summer, is set to make the decision on his future and who his next club would be.

Blackpool have already brought in Charlton's Charlie Kirk, who appears to be Bowler's replacement.

Fulham make Liverpool wait six months
Meanwhile, Liverpool have made an enquiry into signing Fulham wonderkid Fabio Carvalho – however have been told by the club he is not for sale.

Carvalho has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs throughout the January transfer window. The 19-year-old has had a stunning season so far with the Cottagers, managing 11 goal contributions from 18 league matches. And Liverpool have made their admiration known by approaching Fulham this week.

Despite their advances, The Sun report that Fulham are still keen to keep hold of the teen sensation until the summer.

Carvalho's current contract with Fulham expires at the end of the season. The Cottagers have also failed to tie him down to a new deal despite numerous improved attempts.

This means the England youth star is likely to be available as a free agent once the current campaign ends.

Despite this, Fulham still believe Carvalho is a vital part of their promotion charge. He has netted four in his last three matches for the club.

Fulham battling Brentford, Watford and West Ham for 24-year-old defender

Fulham are among a number of English clubs eyeing up a late January transfer swoop for left-back Kai Wagner, according to the Daily Mail.

The Cottagers' London rivals Brentford are believed to have made an enquiry for the 24-year-old, who is also attracting interest from other Premier League clubs such as West Ham United and Watford.

But Marco Silva's side are also considering an approach for Wagner, who plies his trade for Philadelphia Union of the MLS.

Wagner signed for the American side in 2019 from Wurzburger Kickers in his native Germany and last season made 41 appearances in all competitions for Union, scoring three goals and notching four assists.

His good form saw him named to the MLS all-stars team in August and he could now be set for a move to England in the final days of the transfer window, although if Fulham are to land him to add competition to Antonee Robinson then they face competition for his services.

The Verdict

You wouldn't think that a left back would be something that Fulham really desperately need this month.

Antonee Robinson pretty much has that position locked down and the USA international has a very adequate deputy in Joe Bryan who played against Blackpool yesterday.

Do the Cottagers need to add a third man to that battle for one position? You'd have to say they have other positions they'd consider first before left back.

And even if they are interested, Premier League clubs seem to be tracking the 24-year-old which already puts Fulham at a disadvantage in any transfer race.

Blackpool reflections

After a 2 hour each way commute to The Cottage yesterday afternoon and some time to reflect, It seems rather trivial to sit at a laptop and bemoan a below par Fulham performance, a woeful referee and non existant transport links. The critical incident in the Hammersmith after just 10 minutes that unfortunately resulted in the passing of a fan not only had an effect on the game but without doubt most of us in the ground, especially those in the immediate vicinity.

Sometimes things happen that just put into perspective how insignificant football is in the wider scale of things. Without wanting to comment too much on what is undoubtedly a tragic day, I can only add a few thoughts based on a spectator's view from 10/15 yards away at that end of the ground. The response not only from the fans but more so the medical teams, in particular those from Blackpool it must be said who were the first on the scene have to be commended. The decorum of spectators and their initiative to use the flags to create an element of privacy and security was human behavior at its very best.

The thirty minutes or so that passed with both teams returning to the dressing room and eventually re emerging was met with impeccable patience and understanding as we all looked on in hope that the medical team's efforts would result in a positive outcome. It has of course since come to light that this was not the case and so one can only further distance themselves from caring too much about the result and individual player analysis on a day like this.

Much like the performance of the team after the restart, the atmosphere never really managed to get going again for the remaining 80 minutes. There was singing and passion, anger and frustration for sure but with all that had gone on, the on pitch action felt more like a distraction than anything else. By the time we had started to find a bit of rhythm again after the restart, the half time whistle was blown.

Most will agree that Fulham didnt do enough to win the game. The second half in particular with the exception of a Carvalho chance hitting the post was riddled with misplaced passes and corners that promised so much and delivered so little. It was inevitable that sooner or later one of the many defensive mistakes and loose passes would cost us. Josh Bowler was the main threat for the visitors all afternoon having struck the bar in the first half and it seemed inevitable that it would eventually be him to find the net against his old club. Whether or not Rodak could have done better was hard to say from the Hammersmith end.

On any other day we would have exited the ground with a feeling of dissapointment, annoyance and dissatisfaction but in fact it felt more melancholy than anything else. At the end of the day we still sat 6 points clear at the top of the league and the buffer does allow for the occasional poor performance. We can only hope that next week sees a more composed defensive performance as we face Man City at the Etihad.

A final note on a day like no other at Craven Cottage. Despite not knowing the supporter who lost his life at the game on Saturday we as a collective are forever tied together in our love and support of this Football club. In turn it is natural that we should feel some affinity and a kinship to all those on our side. We share our hopes and dreams as a Fulham family are at this time are united in our sympathy and condolences to the grieving family. Rest in Peace and know that you will be forever Fulham.

Fulham and Nottingham Forest learn what they must pay to sign winger this month

Blackpool are willing to let winger Josh Bowler leave the club this month for the right price, a report from TeamTalk has claimed.

Bowler joined Blackpool following his release from Everton in the summer, and has impressed during his time with the Seasiders.

The winger has scored three goals and provided three assists in 31 appearances in all competitions for Neil Critchley's side, attracting plenty of attention in the process.

Nottingham Forest are already reported to have had several bids rejected for Bowler, while automatic promotion hopefuls Fulham and Bournemouth have both been credited with an interest.

Now it seems as though the price those sides must pay to get this deal done has become clearer, with this latest update claiming that Blackpool are willing to sell the winger before the window closes, if their asking price is met.

It is thought that the Seasiders value Bowler at somewhere in the region of £1.5million, and it remains to be seen if any of those clubs will be willing to pay that price.

Bowler signed a one-year deal with Blackpool in the summer, and do have the option to extend that deal by a further 12 months.

The Verdict

You get the feeling that it would now be something of a surprise if Bowler does not leave Blackpool this month.

Given the level of interest there is in the winger, it seems inevitable that bids will come in before the deadline.

Should that happen, then you feel the funds those clubs have – particularly Fulham and Bournemouth after their recent Premier League stints – should be able to meet Blackpool's asking price here.

As a result, you feel it could be a nervous couple of days for those at Bloomfield Road who may be hoping to retain the services of Bowler for the rest of this season.

Fulham U23s breeze past Birmingham

Fulham's under 23s made it fifteen wins from their last eighteen matches with a comfortable 3-1 win at Birmingham City this afternoon.

Full back Ziyad Larkeche made a goalscoring return to Steve Wigley's side and, although Birmingham produced a quick response to Ollie O'Neill's well-worked second, a second half own goal secured all three points for the visitors.

Wigley was able to reintroduce Tyrese Francois to the heart of the Fulham midfield and the league leaders made a swift start. Scottish forward Kieron Bowie caught the eye early on, drawing an early save out of Blues keeper Zach Jeacock and then firing wide from Jay Stansfield's cross.

The lively Luciano D'Auria worked an opening down the right after a lovely bit of interplay with Stansfield but his low cross was cleared by a covering defender before Larkeche could turn it goalwards. But the marauding French full back was not to be denied. He lashed in a powerful finish after Birmingham had failed to clear their lines as Fulham went ahead on 17 minutes.

O'Neill came close to doubling Fulham's lead almost immediately afterwards but his angled drive was bravely blocked by a Blues defender. The Irish under-21 international, whose mature displays at this level have been one of the notable elements of the under 23s' success this term, did make it two when he crashed home a fine ball from Sonny Hilton off the underside of the crossbar.

Birmingham reduced their arrears within a minute, however, when Leonardo Dos Reis raced onto a perfectly weighted through ball and calmly caressed a finish past the helpless Luca Ashby-Hammond. Larkeche nearly restored Fulham's two-goal cushion with another effort from distance that whistled wide after being teed up inventively by Bowie. The hosts almost levelled on the stroke of half time but Oriol Soldevila was denied by the legs of Ashby-Hammond.

Ibane Bowie came to the rescue at the start of the second half – getting in the way of a fierce drive from Soldevila and Fulham quickly went up the other end and punished the home side. Hilton delivered a devilish corner that went in off the unfortunate Birmingham full back Tommy Fogarty. Stansfield, bright throughout, was denied by two good saves from Jeacock, who also claimed a strike from O'Neill as Fulham pushed for a fourth.

BIRMINGHAM CITY UNDER 23s (4-2-3-1): Jeacock; Williams, Fogarty, Browne, Campbell; Khela, Walker; Soldevila (Simmonds 80), Patterson (Hurst 71), Bellingham; Dos Reis (Wakefield 81). Sub (not used): Matthews.

Liverpool pushing to sign Championship wonderkid before deadline

Despite recently welcoming Luis Diaz to the club following his transfer from Porto, Liverpool is reportedly pushing to make another signing before Monday's deadline.

That's according to Sky Sports News' Vinny O'Connor, who claims Jurgen Klopp is trying to sign Fulham's Fabio Carvalho.

Carvalho, 19, joined Fulham's youth academy in 2014 and has recently been promoted to their senior first-team.

Since turning out for the side's first team, the teenager has featured in 25 matches, in all competitions, directly contributing to 12 goals, along the way.

Quickly emerging as one of the Championship's most highly-rated number 10s, Cavalho, whose contract is set to expire next season, appears destined to secure a bumper transfer ahead of time.

Admitting recently that it has been challenging trying to tempt the teenager into signing a new deal at Craven Cottage, manager Marco Silva, as quoted by Liverpool Echo, said: "Fab will be with us until the end of the season.

"I would like, except is not the right word, I would like to see him play for us at Fulham football club.

"I will not lie, it has been difficult for us to renew.

"Of course we are trying to do our best but it has been difficult. When you have a player of this talent and at this level last year of contract it is difficult to keep him with contract.

"Without a contract it is even worse. What I can tell you right now is that Fabio will be with us until the end of the season."

Despite there being just over 24-hours remaining in this January's transfer window, Liverpool remains frontrunners to land the 19-year-old in time for the second half of the season.

Sources: Fulham eyeing up Championship duo as potential Fabio Carvalho replacements amid Liverpool interest

Championship table-toppers Fulham are still fearing that they may lose starlet Fabio Carvalho on transfer deadline day, sources have exclusively told Football League World.

Despite Cottagers boss Marco Silva stating that the 19-year-old will remain at Craven Cottage until the end of the season, there is still a chance that a bid in the final 24 hours of the January window could turn the teenager's head and tempt the London outfit to sell.

Liverpool are still keen admirers of the seven goal, four assist midfielder and should they come in with a late, acceptable offer for Carvalho then Fulham have lined up both Josh Bowler and Tom Lawrence from league rivals Blackpool and Derby County respectively as potential replacements.

Bowler has netted in both of the Seasiders' matches against Fulham this season, including on Saturday afternoon in a 1-1 draw and is also attracting interest from Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth.

Lawrence has scored eight times for the Rams this season and is out of contract at the end of the 2021-22 season, with the aforementioned Cherries and Queens Park Rangers already having bids rejected this month but Fulham will look to tempt him with a move to the capital should Carvalho depart.

'Attracted': Fabrizio Romano suggests player wants to join Liverpool now

Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Fulham attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho is attracted by the prospect of joining Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool in the January transfer window.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that Liverpool are in concrete talks with Fulham over signing the 19-year-old attacking midfielder before the window closes on Monday night.

Romano has added that Carvalho, who can also play as a winger, is "attracted by this chance" of joining Liverpool.

Earlier today, Sky Sports reported that Liverpool have made a bid of £5 million for the teenager, who is out of contract at Fulham at the end of the season.

Could Liverpool sign Fabio Carvalho?

In our view, if Carvalho wants to join Liverpool in the January transfer window, then a transfer could well happen now.

Yes, £5 million is not a lot of money for Fulham, especially when you consider that they are well positioned to win automatic promotion to the Premier League and will want to keep their best players.

However, if the attacking midfielder wants to leave Fulham for Liverpool now, then a transfer could well happen.

Carvalho has made 15 starts and three substitute appearances in the Championship for Fulham so far this season.

The attacker has scored seven goals and provided four assists in those games.

Liverpool submit £5m Carvalho offer

Liverpool are negotiating a £5m move for Fulham's star attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho... with the Reds considering loaning Portuguese back to Cottagers for rest of season

Liverpool are in talks with Fulham over signing Fabio Carvalho for £5million
Carvalho has less than six months left on his contract with Championship side
Fulham remain determined to keep hold of Carvalho to maintain promotion push
Carvalho has been at Fulham since he was 14 but has resisted a new contract

Liverpool are in talks with Fulham over a £5million move for 19-year-old Fabio Carvalho.

Carvalho has less than six months left on his contract with the Championship side and will be available for a compensation fee in the summer.

Liverpool have made an offer for the attacking midfielder though Fulham remain determined to keep hold of Carvalho with head coach Marco Silva publicly ruling out his imminent departure last week.

Carvalho (L) has scored seven goals in 15 Championship starts this season with the Cottagers

Liverpool may consider loaning Carvalho back as part of any agreement with Fulham keen for the teenager to play his part in their promotion push.

If a compromise can be reached now, that would avoid losing him for a compensation fee in the summer and Liverpool will fend off fierce competition.

Carvalho has been at Fulham since he was 14 but has decided against signing a new deal.

Liverpool signed Carvalho's former youth team-mate Harvey Elliott from Fulham in 2019, in a deal that required a tribunal with Liverpool ordered to pay an initial fee of £1.2m for the then 16-year-old with add-ons to £4.3 million.

Fulham had initially wanted closer to £10m.

Liverpool sold Harry Wilson to Fulham for a fee rising to £12m last year but under the terms of that deal, Liverpool agreed to wait until this year for the first instalment to help Fulham navigate FFP protocols.

Meanwhile, Hull City are keen to sign Fulham defender Steven Sessegnon.
