English  folk legend, Martin Carthy was an inspiration to singers such as Paul Simon and Bob Dylan, who both had great success with a version of a song they heard Carthy perform when they visited London folk clubs- Scarborough Fare, which was a big success for both of them: Simon with Garfunkle, had a huge top 10 hit,  while Dylan's  Girl from the North Country is  based on it.
